Abstract

This research is aimed to know whether Camtasia could improve the students’ pronunciation skill at the first semester English Education Study Program IAIN Metro Lampung in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. This research is carried out on the subject of English Phonology.The design of this research was a classroom action research. It was conducted in two cycles. The data collection method in this research was observation, test, documentation, and field note. the cycle I the average score of pre-test cycle I was 60, 3 and the average of post-test in cycle I was 64, 5. In the post-test in cycle II the average score was 75, 8. There are some progresses after being given treatment through video produce by camtasia. The students are very interested in following and doing the assignment given by the researcher. From the result of the discussion above, it can be conclude that the use of Camtasia can improve the students’ pronunciation skill at the first semester English Education Study Program IAIN Metro Lampung in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. Key words: Pronunciation, Camtasia, Video, Editor

Abstract

Dictoglos can be used as a strategy in writing, it is expected that student can improve their writing. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of “Dictoglos” to enlarge senior high school students’ ability in writing. This study was literature study research. The methods of collecting the primary data were documentation and observation. Meanwhile, journals, documentation books, and internet were taken for the secondary data. This study was analyzed using descriptive analysis method. Based on the data analyzed, it can be concluded that Dictoglos is an interesting and exciting strategy that can be applied in teaching writing. This strategy assists the students to reproduce and construct the component of the text. There are six steps in teaching a dictoglos; 1) Selecting a content-related to the text and read it aloud at a normal speaking. 2) Rereading the text twice more. 3) Having the students work in pairs to re-create as much of the text as possible using the note taken by each of the partners to write the text as closely as possible to the original text as read to the teacher. 4) Having two pairs to meet together and pool their re-create of the text to reconstruct it more completely. 5) Having the group of four works together to write down as much of the text as possible. 6) Asking one of each group to read the groups re-creation of the text and ask the other groups to see how closely it matches their version.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to analyze the students error pronounciation in speaking ability. The purpose of this research is to know what the factors that make error on students pronounciation and the frequency of error do by students in speaking ability. The informant of this research are the second semester students at English Education Study Programe in Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The researcher take 10 students randomly as the sample and using simple method to analyze the data. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to explain the result of the research. In collcting the data, the researcher used 3 step, there were observation, interview and recording. After the data of the students collected, the researcher found the causes of errors on students’ pronounciation. They are internal errors that consisted of mother tongue, similiar words, slip of the tongue and errors in students’ organ of speech and external factors that consisted of laziness in speaking English, and never using English in daily activity.           Keywords : Error Analysis, Pronounciation, Speaking Ability.

Abstract

Abstract: English is widely used over the world. In English, there are some aspects that must be mastered as well namely grammar, pronounciation, and vocabulary. Vocabulary is one of aspects that must be mastered, because before we are able to speak, write, and listen, the vocabulary is the first thing we have to master before grammar. However, in learning vocabulary, the students still face difficulties. For example, they always have problems in knowing, memorizing, and understanding the new words. Therefore, the media that used in learning will surely help the students understand the lesson well. Besides, they can also learn English in a more effective and interesting way. The main purpose of this  is making a Magic Dice game which can be used as an alternative in learning vocabulary, for students in elementary school level. This project produced a set of Magic Dice game consisting of six sets of question cards related to part of body, vegetables, fruits, nouns, adjectives, colors, animals and profession, a set of shocking cards, and a big dice. This game can be used in classes during the learning-teaching process. It can helps the students in knowing and understanding the new words of vocabulary. Abstract

Abstract            This paper was aimed at analyzing the non-equivalence translation at word level from the Balinese Tale entitles “I Tuung Kuning” written by I Gusti Made Sutjaja. The tale was written in Balinese then translated into Indonesian and English. From the English translation itself the non-equivalence translation at word level observed. Then data was presented descriptively. The analysis proved that 3 problems of non-equivalence translation found in the tale, meanwhile there were 3 translation strategies applied in making the translation itself. The problems were: difference in expressive meaning, target language lacks a specific term (hyponym), and culture-specific concept. While strategies applied here were; translation by a more neutral or less expressive word, translation by cultural substitution, and translation by omission. Abstract

Abstract : The aims of this study are: to identify the needs of English teaching materials based on local culture for VII graders of junior high school and to develop an appropriate guideline of English teaching materials based on local culture for VII graders of junior high school.  This study adopted the design of research and development proposed by Dick, Carey & Carey (2009). The first draft of the guideline was validated by experts and evaluated by English teachers through Focus Group Discussion. The students’ responses also were needed to know their agreements toward the English materials based on local culture. The responses of the English teachers show the mean value ranging from 2.91 to 3.82, while the mean value of the students was ranging 2.94 to 3.62. It means both of mean value results categorized into “good” and “very good” based on interval range 2.52 to ≥ 3.28. It can be concluded that the English teachers agree with the developed guideline and the students agree with the English materials based on local culture. Keywords: needs analysis, developing a guideline of English teaching materials, local culture

Abstract

Mastering English is very important for everyone around the world. By mastering English, everyone can communicate well and do all things related to English. However, learning using medium will surely help to understand the lesson well, and then they can learn English in a more effective and interesting way. The main purpose of this final project is to make Tin and Rubber Ball Game to learn English vocabulary for Elementary school students. The method used for this study is descriptive research. There were several processes taken to complete this game and the final project, started from collecting the materials, designing processes, and making the game. The result of this study was a set of tin game, consisting of eight tins consisting of eight topics, two rubbers and ten cards about the topics in each of tin. By using this game, students can learn and improve their English vocabulary.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the ability of students’ ability in understanding English poetry at the third grade of English Study Program, State polytechnic of Bengkalis. The type of the research was descriptive research. The data of the research were collected by administering written English Poetry test. The finding shows that the average score of ability of the students in understanding English poetry is poor. The categories of students’ ability were; sound categorized poor, structure categorized poor, and sense categorized poor. It means that the students’ ability in understanding English poetry was poor.

Abstract

Education system has developed rapidly, technology has invaded our life, everyone has smart phone these days, using WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, etc. No one can deny that the generation we teach these days, has become addicted to these applications, for social relationship and fun. This study was conducted in English Departmen especially Advanced Listening class. The population of the study were 32 female and 4 male students from 4st level who were studying English Program. The researcher has used the analytical descriptive method to conduct this study in University of Muhammadiyah Pringsewu. A students’ questionnaire and instructor observation were the tools for collecting the data, results were coded manually and analyzed using SPSS. Almost all study-findings supported using WhatsApp to enhance students learning and enthusiasm, using WhatsApp helped students to develop English skills, enriched their listening and learn from their mistakes, although the study laid out some disadvantages of the experience such as preparing the materials and having discipline class. Keywords: WhatsApp, enhance, experience, language, learning

Abstract

Abstract: There are four skills in learning English that should be mastered by students such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. To support those four skills, students should master in grammar. The basic of grammar in learning English is Tenses. One of way in learning grammar is through games. Jumanji is one of games which have many advantages. JFG (Jumanji for Grammar) was adopted by Jumanji that purposed to learn grammar. The purpose of this study is to make JFG board game to learn grammar for university students. The idea of this project comes up because there is no a JFG board game to learn grammar for the university students in Bengkalis. The result of this study was a set of JFG Board Game as medium to learn of grammar especially in tenses. This game consists of a dice, board of jumanji, five sets of question cards and four pawns with different colors. By using this game, the student can learn grammar in a more interesting and effective way.Keywords: JFG (Jumanji for Grammar) Board Game, Grammar, Students in University.
