Abstract

The development of social media, particularly TikTok, has brought significant changes to consumption patterns and youth lifestyles, including among students at SMAN 1 Polanharjo. This application functions not only as a source of entertainment but also as a space for shaping fashion trends and guiding user preferences, especially in the context of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). FoMO arises when individuals feel anxious about missing out on trends or social activities they observe on social media. This study aims to analyze how students at SMAN 1 Polanharjo interpret and respond to the trend of branded shoes going viral on TikTok within the   framework of FoMO experiences. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research explores the subjective experiences of six active TikTok users, based on five key characteristics of FoMO: the need for social connectedness, social comparison, self-validation, dependence on social media, and consumerism and trend culture. The results show that both followers of fashion-related TikTok accounts and non-followers experience FoMO, which contributes to their desire to follow branded shoe trends in order to gain social recognition and avoid feeling left out. In this context, social media serves as a space for identity construction and a site of social pressure related to consumer behavior among youth. Keywords: TikTok, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), branded shoes, fashion trends, high school students

Abstract

This study aims to identify the moral messages contained in the film Raya and the Last Dragon. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted using the documentation method. The data analysis technique applied is based on Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory, which includes representamen, object, and interpretant. The data analysis process involves interpreting symbols found in the film Raya and the Last Dragon, including data selection, data presentation, and analysis guided by Peirce’s semiotic framework. The results of the study show that four scenes illustrate moral messages such as loyalty and honesty, independence and perseverance, solidarity, and responsibility. The implication found in this study is that ignoring these moral messages may lead to conflict or division, as depicted in Raya and the Last Dragon.   Keywords: moral message, film, Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotics.

Abstract

The song “APT.” is a collaboration between Rosé and Bruno Mars that went viral and gained significant attention from global listeners. However, the song has also sparked several controversies, such as its ban in South Korea for allegedly distracting students from their studies, the emergence of hoaxes in Malaysia, and debates surrounding the true meaning of the word apateu in the song’s lyrics. The song features playful, ambiguous lyrics that are repeated, leading to various interpretations and diverse reactions from listeners, especially regarding the actual meaning of the word apateu in the song “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars. This study aims to uncover the true meaning of the word apateu in the lyrics of “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars. The research method used is qualitative descriptive research. The semiotic analysis theory applied is that of Ferdinand de Saussure. The concepts used in this study are the signifier and the signified. The signifier in this case is the word apateu in the lyrics of “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars. The signified functions to represent the concept of the signifier, which is the actual meaning. The relationship between the signifier and the signified must be interconnected to produce meaning from the sign. The true meaning is obtained through interpretation, based on primary and secondary data. The data collection techniques used are documentary and literature study. The interpretations of the word apateu are as follows: apateu as an apartment, the apateu game, and apartheid. These three interpretations, after being analyzed, will reveal the true meaning of the word apateu in the lyrics of “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars. Keywords: Apateu, Analysis, Semiotics, Signs

The film Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis raises the issue of mental health in the context of family. This research uses Roland Barthes semiotic approach to uncover the representation of mental health in the film Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis. The method in this study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection in this study used scene documentation, which obtained 12 scenes to be analyzed using Roland Barthes semiotics model. In addition, this research also applies Stuart Hall's theory of representation. Through an analysis that has been carried out, this study yields results that can be concluded that the film Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis depicts the representation of mental health which is classified as mental health problems, mental illnesses, and positive mental health. Abstract

The phenomenon of social criticism through music in Indonesia has gained increasing attention, especially after the song “Bayar Bayar Bayar” by Sukatani sparked public controversy for its lyrics highlighting illegal levies by rogue police officers. Beyond its function as entertainment, music also serves as a medium to express criticism against social injustice and abuse of power. This study aims to describe how social criticism is represented in the lyrics of “Bayar Bayar Bayar” using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data analysis focusing on identifying denotative, connotative, and myth meanings embedded in each verse of the song. The findings reveal that, at the denotative level, the lyrics depict the reality of having to pay money in various public matters. Connotatively, the lyrics convey sharp criticism of illegal levies as a form of power abuse by law enforcement officers. At the myth level, the lyrics reflect the collective belief in society that “paying the police” is normal and an unofficial requirement to access public services. This study underscores the important role of music as a medium for social criticism and reveals how these meanings are constructed and interpreted by society through symbols and cultural context. Keywords: social criticism, Roland Barthes semiotics, Sukatani, illegal levies.

Abstract

Karang Taruna is a village-based youth organization that plays a vital role in shaping character and enhancing social awareness among young people. However, in practice, internal communication barriers often arise, leading to low member participation. This issue is also evident in Karang Taruna Dusun Malangan, Kepatihan Village, Wonogiri, where miscommunication occurs in coordination and decision-making processes. This study applies the theory of organizational communication barriers by Ummah, as outlined in Komunikasi Organisasi, which defines communication as a message exchange process within a network of interdependent relationships aimed at managing uncertainty and change. The research aims to identify communication barriers within the organization of Karang Taruna Dusun Malangan. Using a descriptive qualitative method with interviews and documentation, the study reveals that the main communication barriers include psychological barriers, such as lack of confidence and fear of expressing opinions; cognitive barriers due to differing viewpoints and limited open discussion; and status-related barriers arising from differences in roles and levels of member engagement. Physical and socio-cultural barriers were found to be insignificant due to members’ similar backgrounds and close geographic proximity. These findings highlight the importance of building a more open, inclusive, and effective communication model to improve participation and ensure the sustainability of Karang Taruna as a youth organization at the village level. Keywords: organization communication, communication barriers, karang taruna, youth organization.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the controversy surrounding the lyrics of “Matahari Tenggelam” by Hindia, which were perceived as ambiguous and even accused of containing heretical elements. This phenomenon sparked debates on social media between supporters and critics. The research aims to reveal the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings within the song’s lyrics using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through documentation of the lyrics and supporting sources. The analysis identified the signifiers and signifieds in each stanza, then interpreted them at three levels: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that “Matahari Tenggelam” represents social criticism toward issues of injustice, lack of empathy, media influence, and moral degradation. The lyrics serve as an artistic expression reflecting emotional unrest and the disconnection between individuals and social reality, rather than an endorsement of deviant teachings.   Keywords: Semiotics, Roland Barthes, Hindia, Matahari Tenggelam, Social criticism

Abstract

The phenomenon of game Live Streaming on YouTube presents a unique pattern of virtual communication between streamers and viewers. This study aims to describe the interaction patterns between the streamer Xccurate and viewers during the Live Streaming of the game VALORANT, as well as the role of interactive features in fostering audience engagement. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through digital observation, structured interviews, and documentation, with data validity tested using the triangulation technique. The theories applied include Virtual Communication, Interactive Communication, and Interaction Patterns (synchronous, asynchronous, one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many). The results show that the interaction pattern is dominated by synchronous communication via live chat, with one-to-many as the primary pattern, followed by one-to-one and many-to-many. Features such as Super Chat, emojis, membership stickers, and polling strengthen participation, while moderators maintain the quality of conversation. The combination of a relaxed communication style and the use of interactive features results in dynamic, participatory, and multidirectional interactions. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the creative strategy design process of the Video Division in producing advertising content at Signomic Creative Agency, focusing on the implementation of the creative brief and storytelling. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the creative strategy is carried out through three main stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. In the pre-production stage, the creative brief serves as a strategic guide to define communication objectives, target audiences, key messages, and visual references compiled into a creative deck, script, and storyboard. The production stage focuses on executing the concept through shooting consistent with the designed storytelling, maintaining narrative continuity, and ensuring cross-division coordination. The post-production stage involves visual editing, audio adjustments, adding graphic elements, and revisions based on team and client feedback, with storytelling preserved to reinforce brand messages. The study concludes that the success of creative strategies at Signomic is determined by cross-division collaboration, the use of the creative brief as a framework, and relevant storytelling, as well as content format adaptation to suit the characteristics of digital platforms. These findings can serve as a reference for the creative industry in optimizing the role of video divisions to produce effective and impactful advertising content.
