Abstract

Infectious diseases, intestinal worms that are transmitted through the soil (Soil-transmitted helminthiasis) is common infection that involves many people in the world. Estimates suggest Ascaris lumbricoides infect over one billion people. The number of most worm infections apply to sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, China, and East Asia. The prevalence of asthma and other atopic diseases in children has increased worldwide in recent years, but the reason behind the increase in prevalence is unknown. Most epidemiologic data derived from research centers in the west while in Indonesia have not been many reports on the prevalence of allergies, especially when associated with parasitic infections. Ascaris lumbricoides infections induce immune responses that lead to the production of immunoglobulin type E (IgE) in large numbers. Atopy can be diagnosed by an individual or a family history that confirmed the presence of allergen-specific IgE or skin prick test results were positive. Conducted this study to compare the proportion of atopy in children infected with Ascaris lumbricoides were not infected with the cross-sectional method and determine the relationship between Ascaris lumbricoides infection of the skin prick test results with the allergen of Ascaris on elementary school children 047/XI Koto Baru with a history of atopy in the Coastal Hills District Full River City Jambi Province. Of 258 students overall, as many as 220 students and are willing to meet the requirements of the study examined stool. On a stool examination, 220 students found that Ascaris lumbricoides infections by 67 students and non-patient infection of Ascaris lumbricoides at 153 students. There is a relationship between Ascaris lumbricoides infection of a positive skin prick test results with the allergen of Ascaris on elementary school children 047/XI Koto Baru with a history of atopy in the Coastal Hills District Full River City Jambi Province namely in children infected with Ascaris lumbricoides was 67 (100% ) significantly different compared with uninfected children Ascaris lumbricoides 153 (100%) (p=0.0001)

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that can damage organs and cells due to autoantibodies and immune complexes bound to tissue. Infection is a major source of co-morbid in patients with SLE. The infection has been the second major cause of death in SLE, after disease activity itself. Perianal abscess is part of anorectal abscess which can occur in patients that have a risk factor of trauma on the anorectal region. Management of the patient consists of non-operative and operative procedures. In SLE patients that undergo the operative procedure, it is necessary to do perioperative preparation to prevent post-operative complications such as "flare-up" condition due to SLE. Evaluation of medicines and adjustment of glucocorticoid dosage based on the risk of surgery is important in perioperative preparation.

Abstract

Multiple primary cancer is diagnosed if multiple cancerous lesions appear in one or more organs in a person either simultaneously or at different times. Differentiating it from metastases, or recurrent cancer is a difficulty and a challenge that must be faced considering that the prognosis of multiple primary cancers is considered to be better if diagnosed correctly. Vaginal cancer is the second primary that should be considered in cervical cancer patients, especially those who have undergone radiation therapy. Treatment of multiple vaginal cancer with cervical cancer is very dependent on the individual considering the limited number of cases is still a limitation in the treatment of these patients, with various therapies in the form of radiation, a combination of surgery with radiation, chemotherapy, and a combination of surgery with chemotherapy.

Abstract

Blood transfusion is one of the methods to treat anemia and packed red blood cells (PRC) are the most widely used blood component. Post transfusion results showed that increment of hemoglobin (Hb) does not always match the amount of PRC given. This is thought to be due to the recipient's immune reaction to the PRC component. Leukoreduction is an action to reduce leukocytes from the PRC component thereby reducing the risk of an immune reaction. Alternatively, another method called washed PRC can also be used. In this study, the researcher studied the effectivity of leukoreduction and washed PRC on Hb increase in post-transfusion anemia patients compared with the usual PRC. The researcher used a pre-test post-test group design method of 60 people who were divided into 3 groups (ordinary PRC, washed PRC, leukofiltered PRC). The results showed all three groups reached the transfusion target (a 75% increase in Hb) and there were no differences among the groups both in terms of achievement of the Hb target and the incidence of side effects. There were no differences in the success of transfusion and incidence of side effects among the three groups.

Abstract

Cannabis sativa, or widely known as ganja and other names in Indonesia, is a plant that could not be used in the health care system in Indonesia. It is because cannabis is still a Class 1 Narcotic. However, trends within the last few years show that cannabis has medicinal properties, and is already approved as medicine and (even) for recreational means in several nations/countriesThailand is the first nation in Southeast Asia that did. This article aims to emphasize the antimicrobial potential that cannabis has. Since conventional antibiotic is considered unable to provide, it is important to find another source to counter the high rates of antibiotic (antimicrobial) resistance. Moreover, this article is also aimed to introduce one of the potentials that cannabis have to Indonesia since scientific article written in Bahasa is rare.

Abstract

Sleep paralysis is a sleep disorder classified as a rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep-related parasomnia which is characteristic of the inability to perform voluntary movements at sleep onset or on awakening. Medical students have a high academic burden that causes physical and mental problems such as poor sleep quality and anxiety that are risk factors for sleep paralysis. This research aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and anxiety with the incidence of sleep paralysis among Medical Students of Universitas Syiah Kuala. These three variables were measured by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Trait (STAI-T), and modified Unusual Sleep Experience Questionnaire (USEQ) respectively. The type of research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample is 216 respondents who are taken by proportional random sampling. The statistical analysis of the research was analyzed using the contingency lambda test and logistic regression test. The result of the research showed that 86.3% of respondents experienced poor sleep quality with sleep paralysis and 78,4% of respondents experienced anxiety with sleep paralysis. This study concludes that there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and anxiety with the incidence of sleep paralysis.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, which is running slowly but surely, demands that people obey health protocols. In other views, Islam has taught how a Muslim should deal with the epidemic. Various factors that might affect public compliance with COVID-19 health protocols include demographic factors, knowledge of COVID-19, health status, and religiosity. Various studies showed that there was still controversy related to it. This study aimed to determine the correlation between compliance with the COVID-19 Health protocol with knowledge of COVID-19, self-health perception, and religiosity for the Muslim community in North Sumatera, Indonesia. This study was conducted between mid of October to mid-November 2020 on the Muslim population living in Medan City and Deli Serdang District, the most prevalent places for the spread of COVID-19 in North Sumatra. The questionnaires were distributed randomly to the online recitation group in the red zone in North Sumatra. Data collected by google form is distributed via the WhatsApp (WA) application. The results of the study were among 225 participants in the study, those who adhered to the health protocol were 125 people (55.6%), and the level of good religiosity was 120 people (53.33%). This study found that people who adhere to health protocols are related to older age, female gender, higher education, private workers, better knowledge of COVID19, and high religiosity. Religiosity is positively correlated with compliance with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Logistic Regression analysis, religiosity turns out to be a good predictor for increasing compliance. Thus there needs to be a parallel effort between increasing knowledge about COVID-19 and community religiosity so that prevention efforts will be even better in the future
