Abstract

Observation of the new moon (Rukyatulhilal) is very dependent on sky conditions, views and location. The problem that is often encountered in the implementation of failed hilal (rukyat) observations is the condition of the rukyat field which cannot be separated from the influence of geographical location, atmosphere, pollution, and weather disturbances in the sky. This study aims to determine the feasibility of the Unismuh Makassar Iqra' Tower as a venue for Rukyatulhilal from the aspects of geographical location, pollution and weather disturbances in the field. The research method was divided into three stages: 1) Geographical observations include: location height, distance from the horizon, latitude and longitude of the place; 2) rukyat method (viewing the new moon directly using binoculars); 3) qualitative descriptive data analysis. The results of the study obtained data on the feasibility of the rukyat site, in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the feasibility of the rukyatulhilal location, namely the view in that direction should not be distracted, so that the horizon will look straight in areas that have an azimuth of 240° to 300°. However, Iqra' Tower of Unismuh Makassar with the view on the horizon is not disturbed by buildings so that the horizon will be seen straight with an azimuth of 269° 28' 42.06" The viewing height is 130.9 m, pollution and weather conditions are at a moderate level because it is not in the factory location. Therefore, the Iqra' tower is very representative as a place for the sighting of the new moon.

Abstract

The establishment of an astronomical observatory requires a thorough evaluation of meteorological parameters and Night Sky Brightness Levels (NSBL). This research focuses on assessing the potential of Karanganyar as a site for astronomical education and new moon observations. To determine the NSBL in Karanganyar, satellite imagery was used, indicating favourable conditions. However, NSBL can be affected by light pollution and moon phases in specific locations. To complement the satellite data, additional measurements were taken using a Sky Quality Meter (SQM). The SQM values were processed using probability distribution analysis and showed a highest probability NSBL value of 17.22 mag/arsec2, while the maximum NSBL value reached 20.99 mag/arsec2. The NSBL derived from satellite data was 21.47 mag/arsec2. Our study shows that Karanganyar has predominantly high NSBL, suggesting low light pollution and excellent sky clarity in the region.

Abstract

The Hijri calendar is synonymous with hilal (young crescent moon) observation. Nowadays, hilal observation is expanding to various circles using instruments that are easily obtained and widely available on the market. The configuration that is often chosen uses a portable telescope and DSLR camera to produce images. Several theoretical models on the visibility of celestial objects at twilight, including the crescent moon, have been developed by several researchers. This has prompted the study of crescent image contrast and testing of more and more data. This study contains alternative processing of crescent moon images from DSLR cameras to measure the contrast value of observations ( 16Cobs" ) and approximated by theoretical models. ( 16Cmod" ).The final result of this research is a model of the hilal contrast limit at a certain elongation and can be applied for those who are interested in testing the contrast limit according to the specifications of the instrument and observation procedures used.

Abstract

The truncated ELP/MPP02 series is a series of lunar position calculations based on the ELP/MPP02 theory developed by Chapront and Francou in 2002. This series reduces the lunar correction data, reducing the number of corrections from 35,901 to 253 data points, which are used to calculate the ecliptic longitude, ecliptic latitude and distance of the Moon from the Earth. The conclusions of this research are as follows: First, the calculation of lunar coordinates with the truncated ELP/MPP02 series involves the calculation of ecliptic longitude (L), ecliptic latitude (B), and the distance of the Moon from Earth (R) using the provided periodic terms, and then correcting for Δλ and Δψ to calculate the apparent position of the Moon. Secondly, the truncated ELP/MPP02 series has a maximum error of 5'' for L, 1.26'' for B and 2.43 km for R in the time range 0 AD to 3000 AD. In the case of L, B and R, these errors do not exceed 5', 1' and 14 km respectively when calculations are made between 3000 BC and 1000 BC. For lunar and solar eclipses, the series shows an accuracy of 5.8 seconds for lunar eclipses in the time range 2000 AD to 2050 AD, and 4 seconds for solar eclipses.

Abstract

This study aims to calculate the estimate of when the beginning of the month of Ramadan and the month of Shawwal. In addition, it is also used to find out whether there are differences and similarities when determining the beginning of the month of Ramadan and the month of Shawwal using the mathematical concept of modulo 7 and Zeller's congruence. This research is a qualitative research with a literature study approach to investigate scientific literature related to the concept of modulo and Islamic calendar calculation methods. This research focuses on the concept of modulo in determining the beginning of Ramadan and Shawwal. The results of this study indicate that using the calculation of Zeller's congruence is more precise or closer than using the calculation of the modulo 7 concept seen from the 1443 H-1447 H calendar. This research provides an important contribution in understanding the calculation of the Islamic calendar, especially in determining the beginning of Ramadan and Shawwal with the mathematical concepts used such as modulo

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the implementation of Imkanur Rukyat MABIMS 3-6.4 Criteria in Riau Islands Province and to find out the viewpoint of Hisab Rukyat Team of Riau Islands Province regarding this criteria. This research is qualitative research using Purposive Sampling Techniques to determine informants. In implementation, this criteria has not provided positive results because the documentation of rukyatul hilal activities carried out by the Hisab Rukyat Team of Riau Islands Province from 2022 to 2023 shows that the hilal has never been seen. The viewpoint of Hisab Rukyat Team of Riau Islands Province regarding this criteria are divided into 2 viewpoints. The first viewpoint is agree with this criteria because this new criteria was the rukyatul hilal result of hundreds years so that it can be scientifically justified. The second view viewpoint disagrees because this criteria still needs to be tested theoretically and practically. The dynamics and polemics as well as the Government's inconsistency in implementing this new criteria are also considerations in agreeing it.

Abstract

Prayer time can be determined by observing sun movement, and can also be determined by mathematical calculation. Determining prayer time by mathematic calculation needs input in form of ephemeris data. Ephemeris data can be obtained from table such as using winhisab application. Other than that ephemeris data can also be obtained by mathematic calculation with approximation method. The data calculated with approximation method is not exactly the same as data obtained from winhisab, however the difference is not that great. Prayer time schedule calculated with approximated data should not be that much different from the one calculated with the data from winhisab.Keyword: Prayer Time, Approximation, Ephemeris, Winhisab

Abstract

The sun's altitude of -20o as a reference for determining the beginning of dawn time used by the Ministry of Religious Affairs is again questionable. Meanwhile, in terms of hilal height as one of the criteria for determining the beginning of the Hijri month, the Ministry of Religion has also undergone adjustments and changes in 2022. The new criteria of MABIMS mention criteria in the form of a hilal height of 3 o  and an elongation angle of 6.4o. This research answers two formulations of problems, first, how the urgency of information technology in determining the criteria for the beginning of dawn and the criteria for determining the beginning of the qamariyah month in Indonesia. Second, the extent of the contribution of information technology in determining the criteria for dawn and the criteria for determining the beginning of the qamariyah month in Indonesia. Analytical descriptive methods with fiqh and scientific approaches are used to answer both formulations of the problem. The study produced two findings. First, according to Islamic law, the presence of digital-based information technology is considered legal to be used and utilized to provide certainty and trust in Islamic legal products. Secondly, technology has made a major contribution in verifying dawn criteria and establishing new criteria of MABIMS.
