Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of iron sand extract and cashew nut shell activated charcoal in the capacitor manufacturing process and determine the effect of grain size on the capacitor capacitance with electrodes from a composite of iron sand extraction and activated charcoal from cashew nutshells. The sample preparation of cashew nutshell activated charcoal was carried out by carbonation and activation methods at a temperature of 700 0C and continued by extracting iron sand. The results of the iron sand extract were then crushed using a mortar, followed by varying the mass fraction of iron sand starting at 40%, 60%, and 80% for each particle size (60 mesh, 100 mesh, and 200 mesh). Then composite the iron sand extract and activated charcoal mixed for 4 hours, and added 0.7 mL of LiNO3 1M solution. The analysis showed that the highest specific capacitance was found in the 200 mesh grain size, namely 0.0695 F/g.

Abstract

This research investigates the comparative predictive efficacy of two leading machine learning methodologies, specifically the XGBoost and Random Forest models, in estimating ocean temperature dynamics in the TS Gulf Stream and Labrador Current regions along the east coast of North America. Using annual temperature datasets and relevant oceanographic parameters, the data is carefully processed, cleaned and sorted into training and test subsets via the RStudio Platform. The performance evaluation model is carried out using predetermined machine learning assessment criteria, including Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), and R-squared. The results show the superiority of the XGBoost model compared to Random Forest in terms of prediction accuracy and minimizing prediction errors. The XGBoost model shows lower MSE values and higher R-squared values than the Random Forest model, indicating its better capacity in explaining data variations. XGBoost consistently provides more accurate predictions and shows higher sensitivity in identifying important factors influencing ocean temperature fluctuations than Random Forest. This research significantly improves understanding and prognostic capabilities regarding ocean temperature dynamics in the TS Gulf Stream and Labrador Current regions. Empirical evidence underlines the efficacy of the XGBoost model in predicting ocean temperatures in the studied region. Continuous model evaluation and parameter refinement for both methodologies is critical to establishing standards for optimal prediction performance. The findings of this research have implications for the fields of oceanography and climate science, and offer potential pathways to comprehensively understand and mitigate the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.

Abstract

This research utilizes the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) dataset, examining 12,884 observations to explore quasars, stars, and white dwarf objects. Magnitude data and coordinates across five filter bands are analyzed, revealing unique features through statistical methods. The identification of 77,429 quasars with 15 dimensions enhances the dataset. Thorough analyses of stellar and white dwarf classes, coupled with visualization techniques, unveil variable relationships. Residual validation and Gaussian kernel density plots confirm significant class differences. Non-linear regression and a normal distribution mixture model depict complex variable relationships. A parallel coordinates plot aids in interpreting data patterns, while predictive modeling via regression exposes meaningful coefficients. Logistic regression effectively classifies astronomical objects in the SDSS training data. This research contributes to understanding celestial object characteristics, offering valuable insights for astronomers and astrophysicists in analyzing large-scale astronomical datasets.

Abstract

A systematic review of the use of AR in learning about the solar system in primary schools in Indonesia was conducted. This review identified 25 articles using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. We examined the tools used to develop AR, the type of AR used, the focus of the research, and the benefits of AR for solar system learning. Our findings show that the most commonly used tool for developing AR is Unity, and the most popular type of AR used is marker-based AR. Most of the research focuses on development and only a few on effectiveness and implementation. The use of AR is known to improve learning outcomes, critical thinking skills, scientific literacy, visual spatial skills and student curiosity. This systematic review provides researchers and educators with avenues for future research.

The problem-based learning model based on science edutainment, presents a problem in each concept of game-based material. The main characteristic of the learning model used in this study is using games to help students understand problem-based material in an entertaining way. This study aimed to examine the effect of the problem based-learning based on science edutainment in scientific content on students’ logical thinking. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research. This study had conducted in class IV of 45 students at SD Negeri Buay Pemaca. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, documentation, and tests. Based on statistical tests, the independent sample t-test showed a significant value of 0.000 > 0.05, meaning that the science edutainment problem based-learning model had influenced students' logical thinking. The conclusion of this study is that the problem-based learning model based on science edutainment in science lessons has an effect on the logical thinking abilities of fourth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

In Indonesia, according to the 2022 PISA results, students' scientific literacy is in a low category, equivalent to the results obtained in 2006, and is ranked 68th out of 81 countries. Based on existing problems, innovation is needed to increase scientific literacy, one of which is using science teaching aids. This research examines the effect of using urine formation teaching aids on the scientific literacy abilities of grade IV students at SDN 2 Riang Bandung. In this research, the method used is a quantitative method in which the research experiments with a one-group pretest-posttest design, and the data collection techniques are in the form of observation, tests, and documentation. The data processing technique was obtained through test instrument testing and hypothesis testing. From processing this data, the normality test value was obtained, which had a pretest value of 0.171, then the post-test value was 0.051, which stated that the value was normal. Then the homogeneity test which has a pretest value of 0.075 which is explained that the value is greater than 0.05 which is stated that the value is homogeneous. Finally, the paired sample t-test has a pretest value of 0.000, which means the value is smaller than 0.05. Thus it can be stated that the null hypothesis value (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Hypothesis testing proves that using urine formation props on the scientific literacy skills of elementary school students has a great influence on class IV of SDN 2 Riang Bandung.
