al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies is published by Association of Secondment Lecturers (Asosiasi Dosen DPK) UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung Indonesia. Focus of al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies is on publishing original empirical research articles and theoretical reviews of Islamic Studies, it covers various issues on the Islamic studies within such number of fields as Islamic Education, Islamic thought, Islamic law, political Islam, and Islamic economics from social and cultural perspectives and content analysis from al-Qur’an and Hadist.
In other than forementioned field in Islamic Studies, al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies also accepts articles which cover the topic on the cross section between Islam Studies and other scientific field, such as sociology, law, economics, and others.

<![CDATA[The development of media for delivering da'wah is increasingly diverse, not only through direct media but also through films. One of them is a film entitled Chasing Heaven, this film tells the story of a child who searches for his biological father halfway around the world in order to get his blessing and become his guardian at his wedding. This is interesting because the child is willing to look for his father in other parts of the country and overcome many difficult obstacles so that he can teach the valuable value of struggle. The process of understanding the message of preaching in the film Mengjar Surga uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The aim of this research is to determine the values of Islamic character education based on Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis which refers to connotative, denotative and also mythical meanings. The type of research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The research results from the film Mengjar Surga show Islamic character education values, namely optimism, trust, sincerity, religion, mutual help, courage, which can be an example of character education applied in everyday life.]]>

<![CDATA[Humans need work to meet financial needs and meet religious demands. Nighttime work is becoming increasingly common for various reasons such as job requirements, time flexibility and economic demands. However, in religious teachings, there are provisions related to working at night that need to be understood. This research aims to analyze the legal provisions for working at night according to the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and their implications for the Decree of the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia No. 233/Men/2003. The research method used is a qualitative approach using narrative or descriptive qualitative study methods. The research results show that the law on working at night according to the hadith is permissible or permissible as long as it meets several conditions, such as being able to perform the morning prayer on time, even praying at night and maintaining religious principles. Implications for ministerial decisions include the need to guarantee worship time, adequate rest time and health insurance for workers who work at night.]]>

<![CDATA[Syirkah is a form of company with the principles of business partnership and profit sharing which is completely different from the capitalist economic system. As time progresses, Contemporary Shirkah products emerge which, according to Al-Zuhaili, must remain based on classic Syirkah products. Apart from that, contemporary Shirkah products must be in accordance with the basic postulates of Islamic law, namely the Al-Qur'an and Hadith. This research focuses on explaining the suitability of contemporary Shirkah to the arguments of the hadith qudsi narrated by Abu Dawud No. 3,383. This type of research uses library research with a qualitative approach. Data were analyzed using descriptive-analytic methods. This research resulted in the conclusion that Contemporary Shirkah Products are in accordance with the argument of Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud No. 3,383 which has authentic status by fulfilling the three basic principle values contained in the hadith, namely the values of the principle of trust and non-betrayal, regardless of religion, and equality of rights and responsibilities according to the initial agreement.]]>

<![CDATA[Optimizing writing scientific papers in Arabic based on a growth mindset is very urgent to help students' difficulties in writing scientific papers in Arabic, both in terms of knowledge and mental aspects, because scientific work is a requirement for graduating from undergraduate education taken by PBA IUQI Bogor and STITMA Yogyakarta study program students. This research uses the service-learning method in four stages: investigation, preparation, implementation, and reflection. Based on 22 respondents choosing answers of strongly agree and agree regarding the success of implementing assistance in writing scientific papers in Arabic, as detailed in the diagram, responses of disagree and strongly disagree were not found from the participants' responses. Thus, it was concluded that implementing assistance in writing scientific papers in Arabic was successful and beneficial for the participants.]]>

<![CDATA[The radical and extremist ideologies propagated by the ISIS group have left a profound impact not only on the international phenomenon but also regionally. This is exemplified by the bombing at Movida Club in Puchong in 2016, resulting in casualties among Malaysians. In addressing this critical issue, the study aims to delve into the history of the emergence of ISIS group in Malaysia. This study will utilize qualitative methods, specifically library research through content analysis to analyse and gather data from diverse sources such as books, articles, journals, magazines, and newspapers. The primary objective is to understand the historical context of ISIS group in Malaysia in order to mitigate the proliferation of radicalism and extremism ideologies in Malaysia. The result of this study demonstrates ISIS group have emergence in Malaysia through the Islamic Revivalism (1970), Jemaah Islamiyyah (JI) In Malaysia by Nasir Abbas and Yazid Sufaat (1993 – 2015) and the returnees of the Afghan Alumni, Kumpulan Mujahideen Malaysia (KMM) in Malaysia whom is Zainon Ismail, Nasir Abbas and Yazid Sufaat. In brief, this study is expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and researchers working in the field of counterterrorism and extremism after understood the pattern of the ISIS group in terms of recruitment, planned attacks in order to predict the next pattern of recruitment and attacks.]]>

<![CDATA[Trade is of great importance, and Islam has recommended it, magnified its importance, and praised its pious people who are upright and keep what God has obligated and stay away from what God forbids, and trade is one of the most important works of Muslims and one of the most important ways of earning money. There is no doubt that trade is one of the best worldly works in which people work to collect their livelihoods and the livelihoods of their families and dependents, and serve their communities, and what distinguishes a Muslim trader from others: His adherence to the values of his religion and his constant reliance on his Lord. Therefore, it was imperative for every Muslim merchant at this time to familiarize himself with the ethics, do's and don'ts that relate to his business; this is because of the spread of prohibitions and the many suspicions that affect most transactions, deviating them from the legitimate controls that Allah Almighty has commanded. For all these reasons, the researcher believes in mentioning some ethics in trade that must be practiced by the merchant in his transactions in order to obtain the blessing of money and avoid things that destroy its blessing.]]>

<![CDATA[The Qur'ān, as a guide for mankind, has been the object of continuous study from classical times to modern times today, involving various aspects including the history of its revelation, the history of its bookkeeping, its interpretation, its meaning content, its grammatical aspects, to the way of reading qira'at. Differences in qiraat have various impacts on the interpretation of the Qur'an, both in terms of changing the meaning and in terms that do not have a direct impact on interpretation, such as differences in dialect. This article examines the influence of saheeh and shadhdhah qiraat on the interpretation of verse 19 of Surah Saba' in Abu Hayyan's tafsir al-Bahr al-Muhit}. This study uses the method of literature (library research) with the aim of analyzing the influence of qiraat, both considered shahih and shadhdhah, on tafsir al-Bahr al-Muhit on verse 19 of Surah Saba'. The results showed that there is a significant influence of qiraat shahih and shadhdhah on the verse in tafsir al-Bahr al-Muhit. Qiraat shahih tends to provide clearer clarification of the meaning, while qiraat shadhdhah has the potential to change the meaning of the verse.]]>

<![CDATA[The academic study of the relationship between religion and the protection of life is inevitable hence most intolerance incidents occur in the name of religion or for the religion. In general, religions are concerned with human well-being whether they are followers of that religion or not. Although Buddhism and Islam contain detailed explanations of the protection of life uniquely, the meetings of Buddhists and Muslims are most often portrayed as violent confrontations in the Modern world. So, the objective of this paper is to analyze the concept of protection of life through the ideas of Pāṇātipāta from Buddhism and Hifz al-Nafs from Islam for interreligious understanding between Buddhists and Muslims. This research applies library-based qualitative methodology, in which the researchers use data that includes textual analysis of written materials such as books, journal articles, and internet sources. The findings disclose that although Buddhism and Islam differ fundamentally, both religions share a similar scope for the protection of life which prioritize humanity as the major measure. Hopefully, this study will be able to show that these two ideas are significant when dealing with religious intolerance make a better understanding among Buddhists and Muslims and pave the way for interreligious dialogue for peace and harmony.]]>

<![CDATA[. This research explores the concept of political communication in the Qur'an and its relevance to the modern context. Through an in-depth analysis of the verses of the Qur'an, the main principles of political communication are found, such as consultation (shura), honesty, justice, openness, and transparency. The principle of consultation emphasizes the importance of open consultation and exchange of views in decision-making, in line with the concept of participatory democracy. The principles of honesty and justice maintain integrity and public trust, while openness and transparency encourage participation and accountability in governance. Although facing challenges in the digital age, these principles remain relevant and can form the basis for effective, ethical political communication that contributes positively to the development of a harmonious and prosperous society.]]>

<![CDATA[Tafsir Al-Misbah, written by Prof. Dr. M. Quraish Shihab, offers an in-depth perspective on the teachings of the Koran related to character education. Through the analysis of the content of this interpretation, research identifies the main values taught in the Qur'an, such as honesty, justice, responsibility, and respect, as well as the educational methods recommended to instill these values in individuals. This research also explores the relevance and application of these teachings in the context of modern education. The research results show that education based on the values of the Koran, as explained in the interpretation of Al-Misbah, has great potential in forming quality individual characters and noble morals. This education not only focuses on intellectual development, but also on moral and spiritual development, which ultimately contributes to the formation of a better society.]]>
