Abstract

This article discusses whether there are differences in students’ achievement based on materials used in tutorial activities in Penanganan Anak Berkelainan” (Handling Handicap Children) course. The research was conducted in the first semester of 2006 with students of Diploma II PGTK as the samples. Pre- and post-tests were used to assess students’ performance in tutorilas. In addition, a survey using questionnaire was employed to collect data on students’ perception on the value of the pre- and post-tests in the tutorial activities. A quasi experiment was conducted to figure out the value of pre- and post tests in collecting data on students’ improvement in understanding tutorial activities using tutorial kits. T test shows that there is a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-test scores with score of pre-test is lower than those of post-test. The T test also shows that children’s achievement in experiment group is higher than those in control group

Abstract

Long-distance learning system has been known in Indonesia far before UT was establised in 1984. The questioning differences between long-distance learning system and conventional system still persist until today. This question is co-related with the doubt of how to implement the long-distance learning system with very large number of students across the nations who are far from the source of learning, and with ununified compentency of the program input. This research is using non-parametric statistics to identify differences of student ability between UT students, X University students, and Y University students, in answering essays of Economic Statistics II measured in 2 categories: comparing question patterns and test results done by students from different universities. For the face-to-face or conventional system, this study use two different institution, X university and Z university, so the comparisons can be done twice to two a different and the same systems. There are 49 respondents that consists of 20 undergraduate students of X university, 19 undergraduate students of Y university, and 10 undergraduate students of UT. The data collected will be analyzed using non-parametric statistics, the Chi-Square Method. From the testing process standpoint, there is no significant difference among students of UT, University X, and Unversity Y. And also between students university X and unversity Y. From the testing result standpoint, students of UT, University X, and Unversity Y show relatively the same result with a degree 95%

Abstract

Learning to solve problems is the principal reason for studying mathematics. Teachers play important roles to enhance students’ ability to solve problems in mathematics. While teachers’ presence is common situation in face-to-face education system, it’s hardly the case in distance education system. The situation often post questions on the quality of distance education system, especially in the field of mathematics. The aim of this research was to compare students’ form distance education system and face-to-face system in term of the students’ achievement in problem solving. Data collected through questionnaires and written test are analyzed quantitatively to compare the algebra structure problem solving competences between the groups of students based on Polya's phase guide for solving problem. Analysis shows that the average scores of face-to-face students are slightly higher than distance education students. However, on one out of four competences -how to prove the subgroup- there is no differences in the two groups average scores

Abstract

Universitas Terbuka (UT) telah berfungsi sejak 1984 untuk memperluas kesempatan belajar bagi seluruh warga negara Indonesia dari berbagai lapisan guna menempuh pendidikan tinggi berkualitas. Makalah ini menyajikan aspek operasional pendidikan terbuka dan jarak jauh beserta sistem penjaminan kualitas UT. Deskripsi dan analisis tentang UT disampaikan dalam hal sistem pembelajaran, asesmen pembelajaran, dan sistem pendukung layanan operasional. Beragam layanan pendukung pembelajaran diberikan sesuai kebutuhan mahasiswa meliputi pembelajaran jarak jauh dengan tutorial online, pembelajaran jarak jauh blended dengan tutorial tatap muka dan online, pembelajaran jarak jauh dengan semua matakuliah didukung tutorial tatap muka, dan pembelajaran fully online. Sistem penjaminan kualitas UT meliputi pengembangan budaya kerja berkualitas sebagai tanggung jawab bersama, fokus pada pencegahan, dan pengembangan mekanisme asesmen kualitas secara internal dan eksternal. UT telah mengadopsi Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Quality Assurance Framework sejak tahun 2001. Asesmen dan review kualitas secara eksternal telah dilakukan melalui sertifikasi ISO 9001 dan ISO 27001, akreditasi Program Studi dan Institusi oleh Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN-PT), dan review kualitas oleh International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). Arah ke depan UT sebagaimana dinyatakan oleh Menteri Riset, Teknologi, dan Pendidikan Tinggi 2014-2015 adalah tantangan UT sebagai pelopor cyber university di Indonesia serta menyediakan matakuliah online bagi mahasiswa dari perguruan tinggi di Indonesia lain agar memiliki pengalaman pembelajaran online. Universitas Terbuka (UT) has been functioning since 1984 to widen opportunities for the citizens of Indonesia from all geographical, social and economic backgrounds to have access to quality higher education. This paper presents the UT operational aspects of open and distance learning and its quality assurance system. The description and analysis of UT is presented in terms of teaching and learning system, assessment of student learning, and operational support system. The UT modes of learning support to students are provided based on the students’ needs to include distance learning with online tutorials, blended distance learning with face-to-face and online tutorials, distance learning with all courses supported by face-to-face tutorials, and fully online learning courses. Quality assurance is discussed in terms of the development of quality work culture as shared responsibility, focus on prevention, and the establishment of mechanism for internal and external assessment. UT has adopted the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Quality Assurance Framework since 2001. External quality assessment includes certification for ISO 9001 and ISO 27001, Study Program and Institution accreditations by the National Board of Higher Education Accreditation (BAN-PT), and quality reviews by the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). Future directions of UT as stated by the former Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education was to be pioneer in cyber university and to provide online courses for students from other universities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan membandingkan tingkat penggunaan Open Educational Resources (OER). Penekanannya adalah pada yang mempengaruhi penggunaan OER dan persepsi tentang penggunaan OER dari dosen E-learning University dan Konvensional (Face To Face teaching) Universitas di kota Yogyakarta. Fokus studi murni melibatkan dua universitas negeri: Universitas Terbuka (UT) sebagai Universitas E-learning dan Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) sebagai Universitas Pembelajaran Tatap Muka. Data dikumpulkan dari sampel 30 responden dari masing-masing universitas menggunakan metode kuesioner. Hasil data menunjukkan bahwa dosen di kedua universitas memiliki keterampilan teknologi ahli, dan keduanya menggunakan sumber daya digital dan OER. Para dosen UT, bagaimanapun, menunjukkan persepsi yang lebih positif tentang penggunaan OER berbeda dengan kuliah sebagai bahan pendukung daripada UNY.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop a model of tutorial delivered through video conference. A formative evaluation model of Dick, Carey and Carey was implemented in this developmental research. This model of formative consists of some systematic phases such as: need analysis, designing a prototype of the program, one-to-one try out with individual student and small group evaluation. The result of the study reveals that the video conference learning materials should be designed and developed based on several factors instructional objectives, potential of the video conference as a delivery system, course characterstics and instructional media support. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan model tutorial disampaikan melalui video conference. Sebuah model evaluasi formatif dari Dick, Carey dan Carey dilaksanakan dalam penelitian perkembangan ini. Model formatif terdiri dari beberapa tahap sistematis seperti: analisis kebutuhan, merancang prototipe program, satu-ke-satu mencoba dengan individu siswa dan evaluasi kelompok kecil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan pembelajaran video conference harus dirancang dan dikembangkan berdasarkan beberapa faktor - tujuan instruksional, potensi konferensi video sebagai sistem pengiriman, tentu saja characterstics dan instruksional dukungan media.

Abstract

Persuasive communication model for online tutorial participants categorized passive developed to increase their active role in the activities online tutorial. The development of this model is done considering the number of participants categorized Tuton passive in every semester, one of them is Online tutorial participants for the course Introduction to Communication Studies (SKOM 4101). Though their active role in the activities online tutorial (in discussion or workmanship assignment) will contribute positively to indigo final exam for the course related. This research is research Research And Development, with the following stages : (1) conduct an inventory of the participants Tuton Communication Studies introductory course registration period 2013.1 categorized passive, (2) conduct a survey of students participating in Science Communication Tuton introductory course registration period 2013.1 categorized passive and chosen as research respondents, in order to determine the factors that cause they do not participate actively in the activities online tutorial, (3) develop a model of persuasive communication service, (4) to test a model to study respondents using the experimental method is the stage of activity pretest, treatment, posttest . The population in this study were all students participating online tutorial Introduction to Communication Studies class 01 at the time of registration are categorized passive 2013.1. Samples were taken from the overall population. The findings showed that: (1) there are 37 participants online tutorial Introduction to Communication Studies class 01 which categori passive, (2) factor is the reason for their inactivity in online tutorial activities are busy work, so they do not have the time to participate in activities online tutorial that they follow, (3) model of persuasive communication services is developed in the form of persuasive communication services electronic mail sent directly to the email address of each respondent, (4) trial results letter persuasive communication services developed shows that a change in the behavior of respondents, which they then became active in the delivery online tutorial indicated task by respondents after they acquire electronic mail that is packaged in the form of persuasive communication Model komunikasi persuasif bagi peserta tutorial online (tuton) terkategori pasif dikembangkan guna meningkatkan peran aktif mereka dalam kegiatan tuton. Pengembangan model ini dilakukan mengingat masih banyaknya peserta tuton yang terkategori pasif pada tiap semester, salah satunya adalah peserta tuton untuk matakuliah Pengantar Ilmu Komunikasi (SKOM 4101). Padahal peran aktif mereka dalam kegiatan tuton (dalam diskusi maupun pengerjaan tugas) akan berkontribusi secara positif terhadap nilai ujian akhir untuk matakuliah terkait. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian Research And Development, dengan tahapan sebagai berikut: (1) melakukan inventarisasi peserta tuton matakuliah pengantar Ilmu Komunikasi masa registrasi 2013.1 yang terkategori pasif, (2) melakukan survai kepada mahasiswa peserta tuton matakuliah Pengantar Ilmu Komunikasi masa registrasi 2013.1 yang terkategori pasif dan terpilih sebagai responden penelitian, guna mengetahui faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan mereka tidak berpartisipasi secara aktif dalam kegiatan tuton, (3) mengembangkan model layanan komunikasi persuasif, dan (4) melakukan uji coba model kepada responden penelitian dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen yaitu dengan tahapan kegiatan pretest, treatment, posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa peserta tuton Pengantar Ilmu Komunikasi kelas 01 pada masa registrasi 2013.1 yang terkategori pasif. Sampel penelitian diambil secara keseluruhan dari populasi. Hasil temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) ada 37 peserta tuton Pengantar Ilmu Komunikasi kelas 01 yang tekategori pasif, (2) faktor yang menjadi alasan ketidakaktifan mereka dalam kegiatan tuton adalah kesibukan kerja, sehingga mereka tidak memiliki waktu untuk berperan aktif dalam kegiatan tuton yang mereka ikuti, (3) model layanan komunikasi persuasif yang dikembangkan adalah layanan komunikasi persuasif berbentuk surat elektronik yang dikirim langsung ke alamat email masing-masing responden, (4) hasil uji coba surat layanan komunikasi persuasif yang dikembangkan menunjukkan bahwa terjadi perubahan perilaku responden, yaitu mereka kemudian menjadi aktif dalam kegiatan tuton yang ditunjukkan dengan pengiriman tugas oleh responden setelah mereka memperoleh surat elektronik yang dikemas dalam bentuk komunikasi persuasif.

Abstract

The Open University (UT) provided by the educational staff of the Open University (UT) to help students overcome their learning difficulties. This paper focuses on the ability of students in doing the tasks, assigned by the tutor during the online tutorial activities. The study was conducted at the UT course tutorial activities of Environmental Chemistry Subject at the trial period of 2010.2, 2011.1 2011.2, 2012.1 and 2012.2 involving 81students. Data was obtained based on students answers to the assignments/tasks given by the tutor. The indicators used for analysis of students task answer were the students ability in Blooms taxonomy analyzing. The data then was analyzed into qualitative descriptive. Results showed: 1) All students were able to answer well for the ability of memory understanding and comprehension 2). Not all students were capable to reach higher level thinking i.e. analyzing and evaluating in answering the questions given. 3) Students gave positive respon in online tutorial activities and using the "open educational resources". Universitas Terbuka (UT) yang disediakan oleh staf pendidikan dari Universitas Terbuka (UT) untuk membantu siswa mengatasi kesulitan belajar mereka. Makalah ini berfokus pada kemampuan siswa dalam melakukan tugas, yang diberikan oleh guru selama kegiatan tutorial online. Penelitian dilakukan di UT kegiatan program tutorial Kimia Lingkungan Subjek pada masa percobaan 2010.2, 2.011,1 2.011,2, 2.012,1 dan 2.012,2 melibatkan 81 siswa. Data diperoleh berdasarkan jawaban siswa terhadap tugas / tugas yang diberikan oleh tutor. Indikator yang digunakan untuk analisis siswa jawaban tugas yang siswa kemampuan dalam taksonomi Bloom menganalisis. Data kemudian dianalisis menjadi deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Semua siswa mampu menjawab dengan baik untuk kemampuan pemahaman memori dan pemahaman 2). Tidak semua siswa mampu mencapai yang lebih tinggi berpikir tingkat yaitu menganalisis dan mengevaluasi dalam menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang diberikan. 3) Siswa memberikan respon positif dalam kegiatan tutorial online dan menggunakan "sumber daya terbuka pendidikan".

Abstract

The role of a highly credible academic lecturers or charismatic figures at a public lecture in a university are expected to affect behavior changes of the freshmen in understanding the core of the courses.. However, the public lecture has many obstacles if it would be implemented in distance education, because they are the limited number of charismatic figures, and the time constraints of the charismatic figures. With the development of information and communication technology (ICT), the public lecture presentation can be conducted through the use of ICT. In this way, the number of the target recipients become very large and can be spreaded out in many areas at once than if occurs in the face to face meetings. This study aims to: (1) develop a learning media prototype of a lecture-based ubiquitous learning (u-learning) or multi studio-based learning. The media is expected to show enlightenment from the charismatic figures that allow asynchronous learning, (2) empirically evaluate the validity and effectiveness of the use of the substance based learning media model u-learning. In accordance with the purpose of the study, the results of this research produce: (1) a learning media prototype containing lecture-based u-learning; (2) quantitative results of testing on the new student orientation activities (Orientasi Studi Mahasiswa Baru = OSMB) in the distance education regional office in Bandung (UPBJJ Bandung) which shows that all students responded positively. About the quality of media performance, 71.13% of the students commened good, while the students who answered good for the layout of the media are 68.25%, and the students who answered good for the systematics of public lectures are 70.38%, (3) results of qualitative data showed that the public lecture media is useful and accepted by the new students but not by the students of the last semester. In addition, the availability of electrical appliances and other technical equipment it should be considered if we would like to use this kind of media in remote areas. The prototype media or product generated from this study is expected to be used by various higher education institutions that require the content of the product, and can become an example for the development of a variety of enlightenment lecture materials. Peran tokoh akademisi berkredibilitas tinggi atau berkarisma dalam memberi pencerahan akademis pada suatu kuliah umum di perguruan tinggi diharapkan dapat mempengaruhi perubahan perilaku mahasiswa baru untuk memahami inti perkuliahan. Namun demikian, kuliah umum mengalami banyak kendala jika dilakukan pada pendidikan jarak jauh , karena keterbatasan jumlah tokoh keteladanan, dan keterbatasan waktu dari tokoh tersebut.Dengan perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK), kuliah umum dapat dilakukan melalui pemanfaatan TIK. Melalui cara ini, maka jumlah penerima materi atau sasaran target menjadi sangat besar dan dapat dilakukan di berbagai daerah sekaligus dibandingkan jika dengan pertemuan tatap muka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengembangkan prototipe media pembelajaran untuk kuliah umum berbasis ubiquitous learning (u-learning) atau multi studio-based learning. Media tersebut diharapkan dapat menampilkan pencerahan dari para tokoh yang memungkinkan terjadinya asynchronous learning; (2) melakukan evaluasi secara empirik validitas substansi dan efektivitas pemanfaatan model media pembelajaran berbasis u-learning. Sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian, maka hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) prototipe media media pembelajaran berisi kuliah umum berbasis u-learning, (2) secara kuantitatif, hasil uji coba pada kegiatan orientasi belajar mahasiswa baru (OSMB) di UPBJJ Bandung menunjukkan semua respon mahasiswa menanggapi secara positif. Untuk kualitas tampilan media, 71,13% mahasiswa menjawab bagus; sedangkan mahasiswa yang menjawab bagus sebesar 68,25% untuk tata letak media; dan mahasiswa menjawab sistematika materi kuliah umum termasuk bagus sebesar 70,38%; (3) secara kualitatif, hasil uji coba menunjukkan bahwa media kuliah umum ini bermanfaat dan dapat diterima oleh mahasiswa baru tetapi tidak oleh mahasiswa semester akhir. Pemanfaatan media di daerah terpencil juga perlu memperhatikan tentang ketersediaan peralatan listrik dan peralatan teknis lainnya. Prototipe media atau produk yang dihasilkan pada penelitian ini diharapkan akan dapat digunakan oleh berbagai instansi pendidikan tinggi yang membutuhkan, dan dapat dijadikan prototipe/contoh untuk pengembangan berbagai materi pencerahan lainnya.

Abstract

UT-Online is one of the internet-based student services offered by the Open University (UT) to all students. This study aims to analyze, first, the characteristics of students UT-Online users; second, knowledge of the existence of UT student-Online for each service provided in the UT-Online; Third, the behavior of the students in the use of UT-Online; and the fourth assessment of the benefits of UT student-Online. Survey is the method used in this study that managed to capture the information of 904 students through electronic mail. From this study found important matters as the following, first, the characteristics of students UT UT-Online users related to intensity of use UT-Online is the ease of accessing the internet, age, and sex, and there is a tendency that the number of UT-Online users increases with increasing student enrollment year. Secondly, each facility UT-Online has recognition rate, the use, possession, and diverse training needs. Third, each facility UT-Online can be classified based on the number of users, frequency of use, and time of access by students. Fourth, the benefit of UT-Online scores assessed the level of positive attitude of students toward the facility in the UT-Online. Related to the findings, the researchers recommend the things that can improve the quality and usefulness of UT-Online for students. UT-Online merupakan salah satu layanan mahasiswa berbasis internet yang ditawarkan oleh Universitas Terbuka (UT) kepada seluruh mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis, pertama, karakteristik mahasiswa pengguna UT-Online; kedua, pengetahuan mahasiswa terhadap keberadaan UT-Online untuk tiap layanan yang disediakan dalam UT-Online; ketiga, perilaku mahasiswa dalam pemanfaatan UT-Online; dan keempat penilaian mahasiswa terhadap manfaat UT-Online. Survey merupakan metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yang berhasil menjaring informasi dari 904 mahasiswa melalui surat elektronik. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan hal-hal penting sebagai berikut, pertama, karakteristik mahasiswa UT pengguna UT-Online yang berkaitan intensitas pemanfaatan UT-Online ialah kemudahan mengakses internet, usia, dan jenis kelamin, serta terdapat kecenderungan bahwa jumlah pengguna UT-Online meningkat sejalan dengan meningkatnya tahun masuk mahasiswa. Kedua, setiap fasilitas UT-Online memiliki tingkat pengenalan, penggunaan, penguasaan, dan kebutuhan pelatihan yang beragam. Ketiga, setiap fasilitas UT-Online dapat digolongkan berdasarkan jumlah pengguna, frekuensi penggunaan, dan lama akses oleh mahasiswa. Keempat, kemanfaatan UT-Online dinilai dalam skor tingkat sikap positif mahasiswa terhadap fasilitas dalam UT-Online tersebut. Terkait dengan temuan, peneliti merekomendasikan hal-hal yang dapat meningkatkan kualitas dan kemanfaatan UT-Online bagi mahasiswa.
