Abstract

This study examined the correlation between mathematics performance and academic achievement of junior high school learners in a government-run laboratory high school institution and compared the mathematics performance and academic achievement of male and female learners. Correlational and comparative research designs were employed to analyze the gathered secondary data. Findings revealed a positive and highly significant correlation between the learners' mathematics performance and academic achievement, indicating that high school learners who are adept in mathematics tend to succeed and perform better in their academic courses. Whereas low performance in mathematics correspondingly connotes low achievement in overall academic abilities. No significant difference was found between male and female learners, suggesting that both genders of learners can succeed academically. The study concludes that mathematics performance and academic achievement go hand in hand, while gender does not affect the learners' ability to excel in mathematics. Effectively, secondary learning institutions must provide mathematics learners with learning opportunities during Mathematics classes and classroom activities regardless of gender. Teachers must help learners understand how to solve problems and think critically, expose them to real-world applications, and build their confidence and motivation to excel academically.

Abstract

Abstract

Numeracy is part of the Minimum Competency Assessment (MCA) which is defined as the ability to think using mathematical concepts, procedures, facts, and tools to solve everyday problems in various relevant contexts. The assessment components in numeracy include content, context, and cognitive processes. Content in numeracy includes coverage of algebra, numbers, geometry and measurement, and data and uncertainty. Components in the cognitive process include three aspects understanding, application, and reasoning. The context of numeracy is related to personal, socio-cultural, and scientific. This research uses data and uncertainty content with a personal context. The research conducted is qualitative research with data collection using task-based interviews conducted twice with one question for each test conducted. Subjects were selected based on student mastery of data and uncertainty material and the subjects selected were students who had good communication. Data collection was carried out by giving written tests and followed by interviews. The results of the task-based interview were then analyzed and conclusions were drawn. The results obtained are the ability of students to solve numeracy problems on data content and uncertainty with personal contexts including the application cognitive process. The indicators of ability mastered by students include: students are able to master indicators of mathematical facts, students are able to master indicators of mathematical concepts, and students are able to master indicators of mathematical tools.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the improvement of students' critical thinking skills and learning motivation using a problem-solving approach through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) in the topic of statistics with the assistance of GeoGebra. This study employs a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consists of one eighth-grade class in a public junior high school in Yogyakarta. Data collection techniques include pretests and posttests to measure students' critical thinking skills and a questionnaire to assess students' learning motivation. The paired sample t-test is utilized for data analysis. The results reveal an improvement in critical thinking skills, with an average pretest score of 49.33 and a posttest score of 85.00. Students' learning motivation also increased, with an average pretest score of 73.60 and a posttest score of 88.87. The t-test result shows a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating the rejection of the null hypothesis. This implies that there is a significant influence on students' critical thinking skills using a problem-solving approach through Contextual Teaching and Learning in the statistics subject, resulting in an enhancement of students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

The Jigsaw learning model focuses on student activities in learning in general and also has an influence on students' mathematical abilities, but there are also some that do not have a significant influence. This research attempts to answer how much influence the Jigsaw model has based on the desired categorical variables. Therefore, meta-analysis research is needed to provide comprehensive and in-depth conclusions about the application of the Jigsaw model to students' mathematical abilities. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) is used to evaluate a property's value based on comparisons to similar properties in the same area. Data was obtained from Publish or Perish (PoP) with a total of 500 articles from 2010 to 2023 with the Google Scholar database. The number of journals that meet the requirements and will be analyzed is 30 sample articles with a total of 1252 students. The moderator variables in this study consider country, education level, sample size and publication source. Based on research findings, the Jigsaw model has a significant influence on numeracy skills (P-value 0.05), with an effect size of 1.146 which is classified as very high based on fixed effects and a standard error of 0.045. The research results show that the Jigsaw model is still relevant for improving students' mathematical abilities, especially at the elementary school level. This meta-analysis study reveals that there is no difference in the results of implementing the Jigsaw model on students' mathematical abilities in all country categories.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy skills require someone to understand, analyze, interpret, evaluate and synthesize knowledge obtained from the problems faced by modeling them into appropriate solutions in solving a problem effectively. The need to develop questions according to students' daily problems can familiarize students with mathematical literacy. The research developed mathematical literacy test questions on the theme of tobacco farming in the Puger Jember area to measure students' mathematical literacy abilities at the high school level. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) using the Thiagarajan model which is modified into three stages, namely definition, planning and development. Field trial results were analyzed using Ministep software with Rasch modeling using the Partial Credit Model (PCM) method. The results obtained from the ten questions that were developed can be said to be fit, with the reliability of 139 interactions between students and the question items, the quality is still poor, 75 students' interactions between students and the question items are of good quality. The item reliability of the literacy questions developed was 0.80 in the first 75 samples, 0.95 in the next 75 samples and 0.89 in the last 64 samples, indicating that the questions developed were good and able to measure students' abilities well.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning in physics learning at school is very important. Which can influence self-regulated learning in following the learning process. To find out self-regulated learning, an instrument is needed. In fact, it is very difficult to find self-regulated learning assessment instruments in Physics subjects. Therefore, development research was carried out with the aim of developing a student self-regulated assessment instrument for Physics subjects. This type of research is research and development (R&D) developed by Sugiyono (2016). The sample for this research is students selected using the cluster random sampling method, namely samples from randomly selected classes, namely class XII MIPA for the 2023/2024 academic year at SMAN 2 Sungai Full. The analysis involved four expert lecturers who acted as validators. After it was valid, a trial of the instrument was carried out which was distributed to 114 students. Next, a trial test is carried out for the validity and reliability of a questionnaire. The results of the questionnaire trials that were distributed to students were analyzed using SPSS. Based on research and development from 30 statements, 28 valid questionnaire statements were obtained. Based on the analyzed questionnaire data, good validity was obtained for each question item. The reliability value obtained was (? = 0.9749).
