Abstract

Sustainability is a buzz word in this 21st century where not just the nations but the organizations are trying to achieve the sustainable development goals set forth by United Nation Organization (UNO). Green HRM (GHRM) as an organization level initiative of climate action is at times needed by the organizations as regulatory requirement. It is crucial to consider the gap between intended and implemented HRM practices as it can affect the performance in the organization Similar, research consideration is required for such an intended – implemented gap in GHRM which is a research gap in the literature of GHRM. This conceptual article emphasizes on aligning the intended – implemented gap on GHRM and proposes a new research framework for green HRM as a strategic advantage with the propositions to be validated by the future researchers. Green HRM is a source of strategic advantage and it requires a detailed review with updated literature on the current situation. Current study would fulfil this gap.

Design/methodology/approach: This research was conducted by involving as many as 125 Islamic religious staff who were civil servants at the office of the Ministry of Religion of West Sulawesi province as respondents. Leadership and motivation are independent variables in this study. Meanwhile, performance is the dependent variable, besides motivation, it is an intermediary variable, the leadership variable, and the performance variable. Findings: The equation that can be formed from the results of the analysis is: Y = 0.22 X1 + 0.75 X2, where Y is performance and X1 is leadership and X2 is motivation. Leadership has a positive and significant effect on the performance of Islamic instructor workers as indicated by the path coefficient at 0.22 with a p-value less than 0.01. Similarly, leadership and significant positive effect on the motivation of 0.89 with a p-value of less than 0,01. Motivation has a positive and significant effect on the performance of religious educators with a value of 0.75 with a p-value less than 0.01. Leadership and motivational variables together influence the performance variable by 66, 7 % with a p-value smaller than at 0.05. In the mediation test with the Sobel test, the Z count is 10.963024, much greater than the Z table value of 1.96, which means that the motivation variable significantly mediates the relationship between the leadership and performance variables. Abstract

Purpose: In 1928, Timorese in Oelbubuk had abandoned their original beliefs and converted to Christianity. Now, belief in Uis Neno (sky god) is interpreted as God, Uis Pah (earth god) is lost in meaning, while the meaning of Pah Nitu (ancestor) is still maintained. Even though they have become Christians, the worship of Pah Nitu persisted in their lives. Why is that? What is so special about Pah Nitu for Timorese? Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques in the form of Participant Observation, and Indepth Interview and Literature Study to answer that question. Findings: Through interviews with Tua Adat, Village Heads and Timorese in Oelbubuk, it was found that even though they had become Christians, worship of Pah Nitu was maintained, because the lives of Timorese in Oelbubuk depended entirely on the role of Pah Nitu. Research limitations/implications: Result shows existence of original belief of the Timorese in Oelbubuk centered on the belief in the existence of a celestial deity called Uis Neno. There are also other objects of worship that are considered as a manifestation of the manifestation of Uis Neno, namely Uis Pah (earth god) and Pah Nitu (ancestral spirits) Practical implications: This research shows that Pah Nitu is understood as an important figure that will not be replaced by the role of any religious teachings (including Christianity). Originality/value: This research is conducted in Oelbubuk Village, Central Mollo Sub-District, Timor Tengah Selatan District. Paper type: Research paper.
