Abstract

Purpose: Female entrepreneurs play a significant role in the socio-economic development process, particularly through job creation, innovation, leadership, and poverty alleviation in the Philippines yet the forces that drive their entrepreneurial intentions have received the least attention in recent studies. The present study unveils how social capital and family business influence the development of entrepreneurial intention among females using the case of undergraduate university students in the Philippines. Design/methodology/approach: Cross-sectional data were obtained from the total sample of 227 female undergraduates who participated in the study and a multivariate regression technique was employed for the data analysis. Findings: The findings unveil the significant role of bonding and linking social capital in the development of entrepreneurial intentions among female undergraduate students in the Philippines. The findings further suggest that female students whose families own businesses are more likely to form entrepreneurial intentions and behavior compared to their counterparts. Research limitations/implications: The findings from the study provide a new direction for entrepreneurship education and contribute to the theory and practice of female entrepreneurship. Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to (1) identify the criteria used as the basis for selecting surveyors who will conduct a survey of new building ships at new shipbuilding yards in East Java, (2) develop a measurement of the level of conformity of surveyors to survey activities of new building ships at new shipbuilding yards in East Java, and (3) provide recommendations for the assignment of surveyors who handle surveys of new building ships at new shipbuilding yards in East Java. Design/methodology/approach: The model used in this study is the AHP–COPRAS model, which is combined to select surveyors who will survey a new shipbuilding yard. First, the results of AHP processing will be separated for each shipyard class to know each shipyard's criteria and alternative weights. The next stage is an analysis using COPRAS. The questionnaire used to collect COPRAS data uses an ordinal scale. Respondents who will be involved in filling out the COPRAS questionnaire are surveyors at BKI Main Branch Surabaya. Next, COPRAS assesses each surveyor using the criteria and alternatives identified in the AHP process. Calculations on COPRAS also use the weights that have been generated from the AHP. At the final stage, different scores will be obtained for each surveyor for each class of shipyard under study. Findings: The highest utility value in Shipyard 1 was found in JX surveyors with a utility of 100%. Thus, at shipyard 1 the JX surveyor is the surveyor who is considered the most suitable to survey building ships at PT. BKI Main Branch Surabaya. The highest utility value in Shipyard 2 is found in surveyor AX with a utility of 100%. Thus, at Shipyard 2, the AX surveyor is the surveyor who is considered the most suitable for surveying shipbuilding at PT. BKI Main Branch Surabaya. The highest utility value at Shipyard 3 is found in JX surveyors with a utility of 100%. Thus, at Shipyard 3 the JX surveyor is the surveyor who is considered the most suitable to conduct a shipbuilding survey at PT. BKI Main Branch Surabaya. Paper type: Research paper

Abstract

Purpose: Purchase behavior is a significant consideration for consumers when choosing and evaluating various products. Perceived values influencing repurchase intention are critical since these are the major inputs used by marketing managers to estimate future extra sales and develop strategies to influence consumers' repurchasing behavior. As a result, this study studied the perceived value of locally-made hand-woven bags and the repurchase intentions of consumers in Ifugao, Philippines, which also serves as the foundation for offering interventions to raise the possibility of purchasing a local product. Design/methodology/approach: The quantitative research method's descriptive-correlational research design with the use of a validated survey instrument was utilized to gather data from 202 real buyers and users of Ifugao weave bags in the three municipalities of Ifugao, namely Kiangan, Hingyon, and Lagawe. Using SPSS, data was counted, handled, and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson-r correlation. Findings: The findings demonstrated that local weave bags have functional, experiential, cultural, aesthetics, and social values, which all influence their repurchase intention. All of the characteristics observed had a moderate to a high relationship with repurchase intent. Practical Implications: Nonetheless, marketing methods to develop Ifugao weave bags in the Philippines that integrate these criteria may have a high likelihood of success in retaining existing customers and attracting new markets.

Next is networking and track record alternately ranking second and third. Training and discussion became the last criteria that were considered important by the respondents. MN is the surveyor who gets the highest utility score for all types of surveys. This shows that the MN surveyor is the most suitable for all types of surveys available. AC and TB surveyors have ranked second and third alternately for the magnitude of utility value. Followed by other surveyors. Recommendations that can be given to companies regarding the assignment of surveyors who handle periodic surveys of ships at shipping companies in East Java are: The company already has criteria for the selection of surveyors, but the company can use the utility value generated from this study as consideration for selecting surveyors, and the company needs to evaluate the surveyor selection process that has been implemented in the company.
