Abstract

“Jarum Tujuh Bilah” leaves (Pereskia bleo (Kunth) DC) are a medicinal plant that often used in traditional medicine to reduce uric acid levels. This plant contains secondary metabolites which have the potential to inhibit xanthine oxidase activity. In this study phytochemical tests were conducted on ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of “Jarum Tujuh Bilah” leaves (Pereskia bleo (Kunth) DC), then isolated xanthine oxidase from fresh cow's milk, and the activity of ethyl acetate fraction against xanthine oxidase. The results showed that ethanol extract contained flavonoid, alkaloid and phenolic compounds. Then ethyl acetate fraction contained flavonoid and alkaloid compounds. The value of xanthine oxidase activity from the isolation of xanthine oxidase is 0.00063 U/mL in the fractionated enzyme and 0.00025 U/mL in the supernatant. The inhibition of 92.06% ethanol extract and the inhibition of ethyl acetate fraction was 88.89%.

Abstract

A research on the analysis of the levels of vitamin C in fruit green grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) with a variation of the old post-harvest storage. The study was conducted with a variety of post-harvest storage time for 7 days at room temperature and coolant temperature, and test level of vitamin C used is the titration method iodimetri were then analyzed using independent t-test. The results showed that there was no effect of storage time on the vitamin C content of green grapes on storage at room temperature and coolant temperature. The highest levels of vitamin C contained in the storage day 5 the coolant temperature is 15.37 mg/g sample.

Abstract

Research on the synthesis of activated carbon from jengkol shells (Pithecellobium lobatum) with the help of ultrasonic waves as an electrochemical energy storage material has been done. The activated carbon from jengkol shells is characterized by surface area using blue methylene method and pore morphology with SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) instrument. The characterization results show that the active carbon with ultrasonic wave exposure has a larger surface area of 181.3693 m2/gram than the activated carbon without exposure to ultarsonic waves of 178.0290 m2/gram. The SEM results in activated carbon with ultasonic wave exposure indicate that the pore distribution is more evenly distributed, the number of pores more, and the pore size tends to be smaller, whereas in the activated carbon without the exposure of larger and slightly larger portions of ultrasound waves. The optimum value of capacitance on activated carbon without and with ultrasonic wave exposure of and 6.97 μF/gram and 5.21 μF/gram.

Abstract

Research on natural zeolite has been carried out as a porous material modified by Fe2O3 semiconductor material. Starting with natural zeolite preparation, dealumination by activating it using HCl solution, modifying natural zeolite with Fe2O3 using FeCl3 and NaOH solution, then characterized using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and test the surface area using a Methylene Blue solution. The results of the XRF analysis showed that the composition of Fe2O3 increased after it was modified to 38.022%, which was previously namely 3.193%. The results of SEM analysis showed changes in the morphology of natural zeolites after being modified with Fe2O3. The results of the XRD analysis showed that there was a diffraction peak which provided information that the sample contained Fe2O3. Zeolite-Fe2O3 has a surface area of ??110,2707 m2/g. Keywords : natural zeolite, Fe2O3, semiconduktor

Abstract

Antihyperglycemic activity of jambu mawar leaves extract (Syzygium jambos (L.) Aston) to lower blood glucose levels in male rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) induced by alloxant has been conducted. Simplicia jambu mawar leaves (Syzygium jambos (L.) Aston) were macerated using ethanol 96%. The testing activity of antihyperglycemic done experimentally et the laboratory with each dose of 374.5 mg/Kg and 749 mg/Kg given orally on the male rabbits in the induction alloxant. Measurement of blood glucose levels was done on the (7, 14, 21, 28 and 32) by using a glucometer and glucose test strips. The ethanol extracts of jambu mawar leaves (Syzygium jambos (L.) Aston) revealed the effect by decreasely the blood glucose levels in male rabbits induced by alloxant. Keywords: Jambu Mawar leaves (Syzygium jambos (L.) Aston), Antihyperglicemic, Alloxant and glucometer.

Abstract

Test of antioxidant activity of methanol extract and its fractions from leaves of Knobweed (Hyptis capitata Jacq.) were carried out. This research was conducted to determine antioxidant activity in the fractions resulting from column chromatography separation. Antioxidant activity test was carried out by DPPH method while phytochemical was carried out by test colour of TLC method. The results of the first column chromatographic separation produced 18 fractions. The results of the first column antioxidant activity test showed that the value of antioxidant activity ranged from 0.923-81.849% at a sample concentration of 100 ppm. The second column chromatographic separation was carried out in fraction 16. The results of the second column antioxidant activity test produced 18 fractions. The results of the second column antioxidant activity test showed that the value of antioxidant activity ranged from 10.384-59.769% at a sample concentration of 50 ppm. The second column antioxidant activity test produced fraction 15 and fraction 16 showed IC50 values ??of 40.321 and 56.812 ppm respectively. Phytochemical test results showed that fraction 15 and fraction 16 contained alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, polyphenols and steroids/terpenoids. Keywords: Antioxidant, knobweed (Hyptis capitata Jacq), column chromatography, antioxidants, DPPH, secondary metabolites

Abstract

Isolation and characterization of flavonoid compounds in the third fraction of ethyl acetate of Macaranga hosei leaves. The separation process in the third fraction of ethyl acetate was perfomed using gravity column chromatography with gradient elution method. The obtained isolate was tested for its purity using thin layer chromatography with various eluents named n-hexane, chloroform, acetone, ethyl acetate and methanol with Rf values 0; 0,17; 0,86; 0,97 and 0,81 respectively. The isolate was characterized as MH-1 phenolic compound as much as 30 mg in the form of oil. Analysis of MH-1 compound with UV showed 2 peaks at ? 295 nm (band II) and 340 nm (band I). Analysis of MH-1 compounds with FT-IR showed OH functional groups, aliphatic C-H, aromatic C-H, C=O, aromatic C=C, C-O-C and C-OH. Based on the results of the UV and FT-IR spectra, the MH-1 compound is assumed to be of flavonoids.

Macaranga lamellata Whitmore leaves was macerated using methanol and fractionated with n-hexane and ethyl acetate. The separation process of ethyl acetate fraction was conducted using gravity column chromatography by Step Gradient Polarity (SGP) method. The isolate was tested for its purity using thin layer chromatography with various eluents i.e. n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, acetone and ethyl acetate, with Rf values were 0; 0,7857; 0,8333; 0,9048 and 0,9286 respectively. The result indicated that the isolate was obtained as ML1 (3 mg) belong to flavonoid compound in the form of oil. Analysis of ML1 compound using UV displayed 2 peaks at ? 291 nm (band II) and 342 nm (band I). Analysis of ML1 compound using FT-IR displayed functional groups -OH, C-H aromatic, C-H aliphatic, C=C aromatic, C=O, C-OH and C-O-C. Based on the results of UV and FT-IR spectra, ML1 compound was suspected to contain flavonoid compound.
