Abstract

The research was conducted about the adsorption ability of activated carbon from banana trunk waste (Musa paradisiaca L.) toward benzene. The purpose of this research was to find out the characteristics and the adsorption ability of activated carbon from banana trunk waste in the form value of capacity in adsorption process. In this research, the production of activated carbon from banana trunk waste through stages of preparation and carbonization that was activated using H3PO4 solution. Then the carbon with SNI No. 06-3730-1995 was characterized and using Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM) to find out the morphology of adsorbent. The result of analysis of SEM characteristics of activated carbon was the pores that were formed became larger. In addition, another analysis that was obtained namely 4.6% moisture content; 22.42% ash content; 24.14%volatile matter content; 48.74% bonded carbon content; 347.73 m2/g surface area and adsorption with I2 176.5 mg/g. At the optimum variations of the time of adsorption capacity value is equal1.692 mg/g.

Abstract

Ethanol have made from taro’s flour with an addition of gelatin as nutrition source for Saccharomyces cereviciae. Ethanol are made within process hydrolysis, fermentation, distillation and Gas Chromatography analysis. Starch hydrolysis process are enzymatic through liquification and saccharification process with an addition of alpha-amylase and gluco-amylase which conversed starch into glucose. Fermentation process are used time variation within 5, 6, 7 and 8 days and gelatin as nutrition source are used in concentration to 0,5 %, 1 % and 1,5 % (v/v). The highest ethanol concentration are obtained in addition of 1 % gelatin with 7 days of fermentation which are 41,648 %.

Abstract

Modifying activated carbon from jengkol shells with TiO2 to degrade Rhodamine by UV irradiation has been done. Modification of KA-TiO2 photocatalyst using the impregnation method. The photodegradation test of dyes was carried out with several parameters such as the variation of KA-TiO2 catalyst weight and contact time. Photocatalyst characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD), while for dye concentration using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Difractogram XRD shows that the activated carbon material after modification with TiO2 metal is characterized by the emergence of typical TiO2 peaks. The results showed that the highest percentage of Rhodamine B degraded by KA-TiO2 was 94.11% with a contact time of 120 minutes and a catalyst weight of 1.5 grams.

This research aims to know kinds of secondary metabolite compounds in rambai leaves extract and level of antioxidant activity in rambai leaf. The result of this research showed that the secondary metabolite in rambai leaf were alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and triterpenoids. IC50 values obtained in each crude extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and residual ethanol fraction were 13.27 ppm, 22.81 ppm, 19.22 ppm and 13.33 ppm respectively. The highest level of antioxidant activity was in crude extracts.

Abstract

Phytochemical tests, toxicity tests and antioxidant activities of mahogany seeds (Swietenia mahagoni (L) Jacq) were carried out. This study is meant to identify the secondary metabolism, the LC50 and LC50 of extract of ethanol, n-hexane fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction with the seeds of (Swietenia mahagoni (L) Jacq). Phytochemical screening on ethanol extract of mahogany seeds showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids and phenolic n-Hexane fraction contains alkaloids compounds, triterpenoid and phenolic compounds. Ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids, triterpenoids and phenolic compounds. The toxicity level is performed by tests of BSLT (Brine shrimp lethality test), while antioxidant activity is performed by a spectrofotometr uv-vis. The total extract of ethanol is obtained at the smallest amount of LC50 for 49.47565 ppm, n-Hexane fractions obtained from LC50 as much 75.30347 ppm, ethyl acetate fraction obtained from LC50 as much as 77.87461 ppm and those three extracts are toxic. The IC50 value of a total ethanol of 176 ppm, n-Hexane fraction of as 189 ppm and ethyl acetate fraction of 144 ppm with is strength medium antioxidant.

Abstract

Adsorbtion of Fe metal ion in solution using natural zeolite activated by KOH has been conducted. Natural zeolite was characterized using X-Ray Flourescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and surface area test. The XRF analysis results showed a decreasing SiO2 composition in natural zeolite activated by KOH 1.5 M. XRD analysis results showed the type of natural zeolite activated by KOH was mordenite with the chemical compound Ca2.5Na2Al7Si41O96.24H2O. The surface area of natural zeolite was 75.041 m2/g and after activation with KOH 1.5 M was 126.908 m2/g. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of Fe ions was at pH 4 with % adsorption was 96.24% at a 90 minutes the % adsorption was 98.3%.

Abstract

One type of Bajakah that is believed by local people especially in the area of Muara Badak, KutaiKertanegara Regency, has the efficacy of anticancer drugs, is Uncaria nervosa Elmer. The purposes of this studywere to determine the content of secondary metabolites and the toxicity of the extracts of the bark and root of thewood of Bajakah (U. nervosa). From the results of phytochemical tests showed that both bark and root woodcontain secondary metabolites of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolics. Moreover, based on the result ofthe mortality test for Artemia salina shrimp larvae, it showed that both the bark and wood of the roots are verytoxic with LC50 values of 1.76 and 2.66 ppm, respectively. Both of these extracts are potentially cytotoxic to cancercells.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the synthesis of methyl malate through esterification reactions using methanol solvents and in situ reactions with acid catalysts. Esterification of malic acid was carried out with a ratio of methanol 1:3 to produce pale yellow methyl malate with a yield of 94.06%. The formed methyl malate then characterizes using the FT-IR instrument and tests its HLB value. The result of FT-IR analysis which will indicate that methyl malate has formed is that the carboxylic group from malic acid has been converted into an ester group from the esterification reaction. The wavenumber of the carboxylic group of malic acid is 1720.50 cm-1 and the ester group is the result of an esterification reaction at wave number 1735.93 cm-1, indicating that methyl malate has been formed. Furthermore, for the HLB value based on the results of the study obtained at 11.2, which indicates that methyl malate is included in the O / W emulsifier (Oil in Water).
