Abstract

Methicillin-resistant Staphyloccocus aureus (MRSA) is an isolate that is resistant to the antibiotic methicillin and beta lactam group. The incidence of MRSA associated with nosocomial infections in various parts of the world is very high, but research on its spread in community infections is rarely reported. This study aims to detect the presence of phenotypic MRSA in food samples in Sidoarjo. The food samples (cilok, fried foods and tempura) collected were then weighed, diluted, and cultured in a selective medium and differential namely Manitol Salt agar. The yellow-colored colonies were then continued with microscopic testing and biochemical tests to distinguish between Staphylococcus species. Thirty eight collected Staphyloccus aureus isolates were then screened using Oxacillin 1 µg and there were eight (8) isolates that were positive for MRSA according to the criteria of the Clinical Laboratory Standart Institutre (CLSI). Eight of the isolates were tested for antibiotic sensitivity with the Kirby-Bauer method with Chloramphenicol 30 µg and Cotrimoxazole 25 µg. Eight MRSA (21%) isolates were resistant to Chloramphenicol and only four isolates were resistant to Cotrimoxazole. The presence of MRSA isolates in community infections needs to be watched out for considering these genes can be transmitted and spread between bacterial species

Abstract

AbstractBackground: Commercial sex workers (CSWs) profession is very vulnerable to various types of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Providing information of STIs prevention for CSWs is very important so they can recognize the fatal consequences of these STIs. The most practical form or media is booklet because it is easy to understand, and easy to carry anywhere so that they can be aware of the high risk of danger. Objective: The objective of this research is to know the provision of booklet media improvingthe knowledge, attitude, and behavior of CSWs in preventing STIs in the area of South Kuta Health Center Badung regency. Methods:Pre Experiment Research Design with "one group pretest and posttest design" approach with a cross-sectional design. The population in this research is all the CSWs in Nusa Dua Bali. Sampling is accidental sampling. The number of samples taken 25% of the population so that the amounts of samples is 100 people. Results: Respondent average age in the range of 18-27 years (42%), Education Level of elementary school (48%), length of work (47%) marital status that is married/divorce (69%). From Kolmogorov Smirnov test result on 6 variables such as pre and posttest knowledge, pre and posttest attitude and pre and posttest behavior variable, the pretest attitude variable has the normal distribution with signification 0,218 while the other variable is the not normal distribution with signification less than 0.000. Wilcoxon test results obtained significance for the variable knowledge, attitude and behavior of 0,000 smaller than 0.05 indicates there is a difference of average score of knowledge, attitude and behavior before and after given booklet media. Conclusion: Knowledge and understanding of a person will affect the attitude, then affect the intention of someone's to perform the action or behave. It can be interpreted that person’s education level affects attitude and behavior in life. Booklet  improving the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of CSWs in preventing STIs in Nusa Dua Bali

Abstract

The use of homemade reagents is a modification of the inspection method that has been validated, so that to be used it needs to be tested first for its quality in order to obtain a guarantee of quality against the results of a good examination The study aimed to determine the performance of homemade reagents compared to using a commercial reagent kit on albumin examination. The research method is descriptive with comparative studies where commercial reagent kits act as a comparison method and homemade reagents act as test methods. Both of these reagents are in the form of a solution. Homemade reagents are used for albumin examination in the validation test method which consists of test accuracy, precision, linearity, reportable range, limit detection, limit quantity, recovery, and interference. The data obtained is then processed using descriptive statistical tests, One Way Annova and Wesgard rules. Based on the results of testing, all parameters in the method validation were accepted, so there was no difference in performance between using homemade reagents and commercial reagent kits

Abstract

The community water source in Nusa Penida Island is largely derived from rainwater that is collected in cubang used for drinking and clean water. This research aims were determine the levels of nitrate and nitrite in rainwater which is collected in cubang. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The examination was carried out using the spectrophotometric method. The results of examination of nitrate levels showed that 7 samples (23.3%) had nitrate levels above the maximum limit, while 23 samples (76.7%) had nitrate levels below the maximum limit, according to the regulation of Water Quality Standard I Pergub Bali No. 8 of 2007, which states that the maximum level of nitrate in water is 10 mg/L. The results of nitrite level examination showed 21 samples (70%) had nitrite levels above the maximum limit, while 9 samples (30%) had nitrite levels below the maximum limit, according to the regulation of Water Quality Standards I Pergub Bali No. 8 of 2007, which states that the maximum level of nitrite in water is 0.06 mg/L. The presence of nitrate and nitrite in rainwater are influenced by the nitrogen cycle that occurs in nature. The high levels of nitrate and nitrite in rainwater collected in cubang are supported by environmental conditions in the hole so that it makes it easier to contaminate. Keywords: rainwater, cubang, nitrate levels, nitrite levels
