Abstract

The tradition of a society can be reflected into their literary works. Similarly, the tradition of Orang Rimba is also reflected in the folktales of “Bujang Kelingking” and “Anak Dewa Padi”. The problem of this study is how the traditions of Orang Rimba are reflected in both folktales. This study aims at describing the traditions of Orang Rimba portrayed in those folktales. The research uses a sociological perspective which correlates text with social context of Orang Rimba. This study applies qualitative methods with an annotated bibliography and interview techniques. The result of this study shows that the traditions of Orang Rimba contained in the folktales are the traditions of settling, hunting, and farming. Furthermore, the traditions related to the kinship and belief systems are mirrored in those folktales as well.

Abstract

Sejak diproklamasikan, format nasionalisme Republik Indonesia adalah mozaik keberagaman yang multikultural dan pluralistik yang menampung berbagai perbedaan budaya, etnis, agama, dan ideologi. Karena itu, prinsip bernegara yang kita kenal adalah bhineka tunggal ika, ‘berbeda-beda namun satu’. Sejalan dengan perkembangan zaman, banyak hal mengalami perubahan, termasuk nilai-nilai sosiokultural, persepsi politis ideologis, dan sebagainya. Di sisi lain, warisan kultural dari nenek moyang berupa nilai dan akar tradisi, termasuk kearifan lokal, mengalami pelunturan dan penggerusan. Penulis ini akan mencoba membahas bagaimana posisi kearifan lokal di tengah perubahan yang berlangsung secara eksternal dan internal. Mengacu pada kondisi Indonesia saat ini, dapat dikatakan ada dua faktor yang memengaruhi perubahan nilai sosiokultural, yakni faktor eksternal dan internal yang (mungkin) bergerak secara simultan. Faktor eksternal, antara lain, dipengaruhi oleh globalisasi, deideologisasi politik di tingkat global, perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, neokapitalisme dan neoliberalisme yang makin memacu gaya hidup pragmatis, konsumtif, dan individual. Faktor internal dipengaruhi melunturnya nilai-nilai tradisi dan nilai- nilai lokal (termasuk di dalamnya kearifan lokal) yang mungkin juga terjadi karena faktor eksternal. Karena diasumsikan telah terjadi pelunturan nilai-nilai tradisi, penulis juga akan mencoba melihat upaya apa saja yang bisa dilakukan untuk merevitalisasi kearifan lokal di tengah globalisasi dan perubahan nilai sosiokultural sehingga kearifan lokal tetap menjadi identitas bangsa sekaligus memberikan kontribusi dalam membangun Indonesia yang multikultural dan pluralistik sekaligus madani. Revitalisasi kearifan lokal juga diharapkan mampu merespons dan memberikan solusi atas tantangan dan problematika Indonesia kini, seperti bagaimana mengatasi korupsi, kemiskinan, dan perusakan ekosistem alam.Abstract:Since the proclamation, the nationalism format of the Republic of Indonesia is multicultural and plural diversity mosaic accommodating many different cultures, ethnicities, religions, and ideologies. Therefore, the principle of nationhood as we know it is bhineka tunggal ika, unity in diversity. In line with the times, many things have changed, including socio-cultural values, ideological perceptions of politicians, and so on. On the other hand, the cultural heritage of the ancestors of is the values    root and traditions, including local wisdom experiencing discoloration. This writer will try to discuss how the position of local wisdom in the midst of change that take place in external and internal. Referring to Indonesia’s current condition, it can be said that there are two factors  influencing the change in socio-cultural values, namely, the external and internal factors that (perhaps) move simultaneously. External factors are, among others, influenced by globalization, political ideolo- gies at the global level, the development of information and communication technology, neo-capitalism and neo-liberalism spurring more pragmatic lifestyle, consumptive, and individuals. Internal factors, on the other hands, are influenced the fade of values tradition and local values (including local wisdom) that may also occur due to external factors. Because it is assumed that there has been  discoloration of tradition values, the writer will also try to find out  what kind of effort can be done for revitalizing local wisdom, in the midst of globalization and  changes in the socio cultural values. Hence, the local wisdom continues to be a nation’s identity as well as to give contribution in building a multicultural, pluralistic, and civi- lized Indonesia. Revitalization of local wisdom is also expected to respond and provide solutions to the challenges and problems of Indonesia today, that is, how to overcome corruption, poverty, and destruction of naturalecosystems.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengungkapkan dan mendeskripsikan kearifan budaya dan fungsi kemasyarakatan dalam sastra lisan Kafoa di Pulau Alor, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Hasil penelitian menemukan enam judul sastra lisan yang memiliki kearifan budaya yang masih dipertahankan oleh masyarakat tersebut. Kearifan budaya tersebut meliputi fungsi dan nilai budaya sebagai media komunikasi lisan masyarakat setempat. Ada enam fungsi budaya kemasyarakatan dalam sastra lisan Kafoa, yaitu (1) fungsi hiburan, (2) fungsi estetis, (3) fungsi media pendidikan nonformal, (4) fungsi kepekaan batin dan sosial, (5) fungsi penambah wawasan, dan (6) fungsi pengembangan kepribadian. Sementara itu, ada juga enam nilai budaya masyarakat Kafoa yang terungkap dalam sastra lisannya, yaitu (1) religiusitas, (2) upaya belajar dari alam, (3) sportivitas dan kebersatuan, (4) semangat untuk menjaga persatuan dan kesatuan, (5) penghargaan terhadap yang muda dan berprestasi, dan (6) sifat tolong-menolong antarsesama. Kearifan budaya dan fungsi kemasyarakatan dalam sastra lisan tersebut menunjukkan adanya kesantunan berbahasa dan sikap menghormati orang lain sehingga menjadi penentu arah kebijaksanaan hidup yang mulia, luhur, dan bermartabat.Abstract:This study reveals and describes the cultural wisdom and social function in oral litera- ture Kafoa, Alor Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The study found six oral literature titles having cultural wisdom that is retained by the community. These include cultural wisdom and cultural values as a function of oral communication media in the community. There are six functions of civic culture in Kafoa oral literature, namely (1) entertainment function, (2) aesthetic function, (3) non-formal educational media function, (4) inner and social sensitivity  function, (5)enhancer sight function, and (6) personality development function. In the meantime, there are also six Kafoa cultural values expressed in the oral literature, namely (1) religiosity, (2) effort to learn something from nature, (3) fairness and unity, (4) spirit to maintain the unity and integrity, (5) appreciating the young achievers, and (6) mutual assistance. Cultural wisdom and social function in oral literature shows the language of politeness and respect other people so that it determines the wisdom direction a glorious, noble, and dignified life.

Abstract

Orwell menjadikan pengalaman hidupnya sebagai bagian dari setiap karyanya dan menggunakannya untuk menyampaikan berbagai gagasannya. Melalui novel Burmese Days dan sebuah esai berjudul Shooting an Elephant yang keduanya saling berkaitan, Orwell mengemukan gagasannya mengenai wacana kolonialisme di wilayah koloni Inggris di Burma. Isu yang terkadang luput dalam pembacaan karya Orwell adalah isu gender. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini akan menganalisis bagaimana maskulinitas laki-laki kulit putih dipaparkan dan faktor-faktor pendorong atau penghalang maskulinitas tersebut. Agar dapat menganalisis isu tersebut, kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan yang ditawarkan Mosse, Bhabha dan Sinha mengenai maskulinitas dalam wacana poskolonial. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan, kajian ini dapat menunjukkan bahwa maskulinitas laki-laki kulit putih koloni Inggris di wilayah Burma, khususnya Kyauktada disebabkan oleh konsep mereka mengenai isu superioritas dan inferioritas.Abstract:Orwell made his life experiences as a part of his works and used them to convey a variety of his ideas. Through his novel entitling  Burmese Days and his essay called Shooting an Elephant, both of them were related to, Orwell wrote his ideas about discourse of colonialism in the British colony in Burma. A peculiar issue in Orwell’s work is the gender issue. Therefore, this study shows masculinity of white men, and the factors motivating or obstructing such masculinity. In order to analyze these issues, this study applies George Mosse’s (1996), Homi K. Bhabha’s (1995) and Mrinalini Sinha’s (1995) approach on masculinity in postcolonial discourse. Based on the analy- sis, this study is to provide the assumption that masculinity of white men in the British colony in Burma, particularly Kyauktada, was caused by  their concept of superiority and inferiority.

Abstract

Dominasi maskulin selalu ditenggarai sebagai penyebab ketidakadilan gender. Peradaban manusia, dalan berbagai bidang kehidupan,  termasuk dogma agama dan budaya, seolah menempatkan laki-laki pada posisi yang lebih unggul. Ranah publik seakan berbau patriarkis. Lingkungan sosial pun membakukan pemahaman dan pendidikan gender yang  mengusung diskriminasi. Artikel ini memaparkan konsep maskulinitas yang tidak pernah hilang dari kehidupan manusia, terutama  di dalam sastra, seperti terlihat dalam beberapa korpus penelitian  berupa cerpen. Paparan tentang maskulinitas dilandasi beberapa konsep maskulinitas berikut, antara lain, Beynon, Reeser dan Connel dengan metode penelitian analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menujunjukkan bahwa  maskulinitas dalam karya sastra yang diproduksi pada berbagai era, cenderung mendominasi cerita. Tokoh perempuan kebanyakan  hanya diposisikan sebagai objek atau pengisi lapisan kedua dalam kehidupan sosial. Jika melakukan tindakan semisal perlawanan,  ia harus menanggung akibat yang cukup merugikan.Abstract: Masculine domination is always suspected as the cause of gender inequality. Human civilization, in many facets of life, including cultural and religious dogma, has placed man as if in a superior position.  Public sphere looks as though it smells patriarchal. The social environment also standardizes gender understanding and education leading to discrimination. This article describes the concept of masculinity that never goes out of human life, especially in literature, as seen in some research corpus in the form of short stories. The masculinity of the study explains some concepts taken from, among others, Beynon’s, Reeser ’s, and Connel’s. The study uses the qualitative descriptive method. The result of the research reveals that masculinity in literary works made in various eras tends to dominate the story. Female characters are mostly placed as objects or second class in the social life. If she performs actions like resistance, she will suffer much harm.
