Abstract

This research aims to develop online-based interactive learning media using the teachmint application to improve students' Arabic speaking proficiency. The research uses the Research and Development method with the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). The population of this study is 42 students of Ma'had al-Husain bin Ali UMG, Indonesia. Data collection was obtained through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The study results show that (1) Needs analysis identifies the need for technology-based interactive learning media to improve speaking proficiency and the need for more development of special media for this proficiency. (2) Media design produces ta'bir material with four marhalah/levels. The complete material starts from the initial menu display to the evaluation. (3) The development results have been validated by 85.71% of media experts, 89.29% of material experts, and 92.86% of linguists with worthy predicates. (4) The implementation results showed that the learning media was feasible and exciting to increase students' mastery of speaking proficiency with a response score of 83.93%. (5) The evaluation results showed an increase in the average score of pre-tests 76.09 and post-test 84.6 with paired samples t-test significance of 0.000 < 0.05. The research contributes to improving the quality of students' learning of Arabic speaking proficiency by developing online-based interactive media.

Abstract

This paper specifies that involving literary texts in the teaching class, especially in the context of the Arab world, is detrimental. Since major troubles are attributed to the negative transfer due to linguistic differences between Arabic and English, literary texts can be corrective and therapeutic. They provide the required contexts to socialize young learners with the language in use. The pragmatic function of language dictates much more than contrived examples to come to terms with its intended meaning. Literature-based teaching makes learning more natural than artificial through authentic language and make-believe situations. The flip side is that the language of literary texts may be troublesome, but this inconvenience can be wiped away by literary translation. According to the questionnaire respondents regarding the inclusion of translation in the teaching class, it can be applied without demur since Arab learners mechanically translate explicitly or silently throughout the lesson. As such, the blend of literature and English language teaching with the help of literary translation can be adequate pedagogic support for secondary school Arab learners.

Abstract

The letters of meanings are a linguistic topic that the fundamentalists borrowed in the field of fundamentals, and they may have added appreciable additions to it to achieve the goal of lending it to science. This is because of its importance in deducing legal rulings. This appears in the way fundamentalists deal with it in their books, ancient and modern. But there is another essential feature, which is that the conjunctions, or the letters of meanings, by contemplating the places they appear in the verses of rulings - and the hadiths of rulings by extension - we found that they have an essential effect in deducing rulings on the one hand, and in facilitating jurisprudential rulings on the other hand. The fundamentalists have worked hard to explain the meanings of the letters of meaning, including the conjunctions, and to explain the impact of this on deducing legal rulings. They have made great efforts in doing so. They based many of the deduction rules on rules in the Arabic language. This research focuses on the letter waw, as it is one of the conjunctions of the meaning letters, and shows its effect in deriving legal rulings while presenting its role in facilitating jurisprudential rulings, which is consistent with the intention of the law and its will in basing rulings on facilitation.

Abstract

Speaking skills are critical in second language acquisition. This study investigates the most common speaking skills problems among non-native Arabic learners in universities in Northeast China and the differences between speaking skills problems based on gender and academic level. A quantitative research design was adopted. It used the questionnaire to collect data. The sample of this study included 104 Chinese students who learn Arabic from two universities in Northeast China. The results indicate that the most common problems with Arabic speaking skills are a lack of vocabulary, opportunities to meet native Arabic speakers, fear of mistakes, teacher-centered classes, and the teacher using too many students’ native languages in the classroom. Besides that, the results show no statistically significant difference in Arabic speaking skills problems based on gender. However, the findings show statistically significant differences in Arabic speaking skills problems based on the academic level. The learners of the second year have more Arabic speaking skills problems than the learners of the first year, and the learners of the third year also have more Arabic speaking skills problems than the learners of the first year. According to the findings, the study suggests recommendations for Arabic learners, instructors, and policymakers in universities in non-Muslim gathering areas in Northeast China.

Abstract

This study explores the linguistic features within the move structures of the research background and problem statement sections in Chapter One of PhD theses written by Arab students in Malaysia. The analysis focuses on four key language elements: verb tense, modality, voice (active and passive), and personal pronouns. A corpus of 30 theses was analyzed to determine common linguistic patterns, revealing significant insights into the language choices of these academic writers. The study employs concordance and hand-tagged analysis to examine verb tense and voice, with manual verification for modality and personal pronouns to ensure accuracy. Eight distinct verb tenses were identified, with the present simple tense being the most frequently used, representing 55.30% of the total instances. This indicates a preference for focusing on current knowledge and ongoing research. In contrast, the past simple and future simple tenses were used to describe past methodologies and future implications, respectively. Modal auxiliaries play a crucial role in conveying sentiments and opinions. The study identified seven modal verbs, with 'can' being the most commonly used, suggesting a focus on possibility over obligation. The analysis of voice patterns revealed a higher occurrence of active voice (79.66%), especially in moves that conveyed up-to-date knowledge. In contrast, passive voice was more common in methodological descriptions, indicating a focus on the actions or subjects rather than the actors. The study also examined the usage of personal pronouns, finding a higher frequency of third-person pronouns, suggesting a more objective narrative style. These findings offer valuable insights into the linguistic choices of Arab EFL students in academic writing, providing a deeper understanding of their communicative intentions and alignment with academic discourse conventions. The results can guide future research on linguistic patterns in academic writing and help educators support EFL students in improving their writing skills.

Abstract

In the current age of widespread digitization, technology has become an essential aspect of our everyday existence, significantly transforming how we gain knowledge and interact with our environment. This study aims to explore students' viewpoints on acquiring the Arabic language by employing digital games. This study used a qualitative methodology and performed semi-structured interviews with a purposively selected 30 college students. Their Arabic language program exposed These students to a digital game for five weeks. The findings revealed that students responded well to learning Arabic using digital games, consistently expressing their experiences in a unique and engaging educational environment. The post-implementation semi-structured interviews indicated that students recognized the integration of digital games as a valuable and advantageous approach, providing a distinct and captivating aspect to conventional learning methods. Hence, the results indicate that incorporating digital games into language teaching improves learning and benefits teachers and students in many courses that adopt this creative method.

Abstract

The main aim of this paper is to explore the different linguistic, aesthetic, and cultural aspects of literary translation. The paper examines the various features of literary translation at both macro and micro levels. It focuses on those features of literary texts that are characteristic of literary works. First, we follow the standard linguistic paradigm in the discussion of literary translation, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and the aesthetic and cultural features of literary texts. The qualitative method is used to explore the various features of literary translation to identify the recurring linguistic and literary devices lacking systematic forms and patterns to find a comparable genre-specific form in the target language. The model proposed consists of five stages: (1) Retention of sound devices, (2) Retention of syntactic patterns, (3) Retention of semantic features, (4) Retention of figurative language, and (5) Retention of the cultural aspects. The model is a descriptive model for analyzing literary translation procedures and can be used as a pedagogical model for translation practice. Findings show that employing this model would offer translation students new insights to describe challenging linguistic, aesthetic, and cultural features in the source texts to think of some practical solutions for translating literary works.

Abstract

This research article explores the significance of panegyrics in Arabic on the Prophet in the Arabic literature of Tamil Nadu, India. Panegyrics, known as al-Madaih al-Nabawiyyah, are prominent in Islamic culture and express profound love, respect, and loyalty towards the Prophet. The article examines the historical background of panegyrics and their decline during the emergence of Islam. It discusses the poets who composed panegyrics in the presence of the Prophet and their alignment with the decline of pagan poetry. Additionally, the article highlights the relationship between panegyrics and Sira (biography), their formalization, and their association with Islamic mysticism. It focuses on notable panegyric compositions by scholars from Tamil Nadu, discussing their themes and contributions to Arabic literature. The article concludes by emphasizing the diversity of styles and meanings in prophetic panegyrics and their integration and cultural reverence into Sufism.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of the book "Al-Adab Al-Shaghir" by the author Abdullah Ibn Al-Muqaffa, and identify the educational context of the texts of this book. This study uses an inductive approach to extrapolate Arabic texts and extract research materials and descriptive-analytical (content analysis) To analyze. The author focuses on social behavior and discusses topics including the importance of self-discipline and self-control and the importance of friendship and positive social relationships. It also emphasizes ethical behavior and the importance of moral values, personal relationships, and social responsibility. He discusses educational issues with reason, wisdom, and literature, which increases the influence of his philosophy on readers and contributes to establishing educational values in society. The study results also show that the content and values of education, the most prominent of which are the love of knowledge, choosing good friends, Honesty and integrity, and their role in encouraging personal and social growth, Self-awareness, and self-control. This book contains many rhetorical methods with the educational implication that a wise person must be at odds with himself and judge himself. Among the most prominent educational means in Ibn al-Muqaffa's texts are education by example, the need for ethics and discipline (education) and its role in the context of watering the mind, and developing society to benefit from these contents in raising children in the current era, and it is recommended that these values need to be included in educational books so that pre-university students can contribute to instilling values and purifying the minds of the younger generation.

Abstract

With its intricate arrangement, classification, abundance, and bifurcation, Arabic grammar presents challenges for learners rooted in historical contextual factors and pedagogical approaches. This study addresses the need for a comprehensive examination and categorization of Arabic grammatical rules based on specific criteria aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It aims to identify prevalent and obscure rules, offering a compilation organized according to CEFR standards. The objective is to streamline Arabic language acquisition by reducing the overwhelming quantity of rules presented in textbooks for non-native speakers. The primary obstacle learners face is the complex nature of Arabic grammar, compounded by inadequate organization and delivery of existing materials. This leads to a skewed focus on less practical rules, hindering everyday speech and writing proficiency. Statistical analyses reveal the need for restructuring instructional sequences to prioritize commonly used rules. The proposal advocates aligning grammatical structures with CEFR guidelines and incorporating essential structures for non-Arabic speakers, promoting a modern and coherent language. By addressing these issues, this study motivates learners and bridges the gap between non-native and native proficiency levels in Arabic. The research relied on older references for the theoretical framework due to the need for more specialized references on teaching Arabic grammar to non-native speakers.
