Abstract

Oil palm empty bunches (TKKS) are one of the largest solid waste palm oil processing which has the potential as raw material for compost to increase the growth of rubber plant material. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of TKKS compost applications on the growth of rubber plant material and the reduction of inorganic fertilizers. The study using a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 6 treatment combination of compost and reduction of inorganic fertilizers namely : 1) control (without compost and fertilizer); 2) 100 % general dosage (DU) of inorganic fertilizer; 3) 1.000 gram compost; 4) 800 gram compost + 25 % DU; 5) 600 gram + 50 % DU compost; and 6) 400 gram compost + 75 % DU. The results show that a combination of TKKS compost and inorganic fertilizer were not significantly different to increase plant growth. A Significant difference was shown in the parameter of grafting successfully by use of 400 – 600-gram compost TKKS accompanied by a reduction of 25-50 % inorganic fertilizer in planting media. In addition, TKKS compost also has tendency to increase the nutrient content of K, Ca, and Mg compared to without compost application.

Abstract

Seaweed is one of the fisheries commodities that are widely cultivated in Indonesia. Seaweed cultivation (Kappaphycus alvarezii) in the amal baru Coast of Tarakan City is carried out traditionally using the longline method so that the yield of seaweed (K. alvarezii) depends on natural conditions. One effort that can be done to optimize land use is vertical land use. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of depth on the growth of seaweed production and color in the Amal Coast waters. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications. This research was conducted for 21 days in the waters of the Amal Coast of Tarakan City. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and BNT follow-up tests. The test results showed that seaweed growth was significantly different between treatments 10 and 30 cm. The highest relative growth was in the 10 cm treatment of 109.22% and the lowest was 39.38%. The highest specific growth rate was in the 10 cm treatment of 3.56% / day and the lowest was 1.58% / day. The highest mean of seaweed production at 10 cm treatment was 36.407 g / m and the lowest was 13.130 g / m. The difference in growth is greatly influenced by the intensity of the light, the brightness of the waters, and the suspended solids. The color of the talus appears brighter at low depths compared to high depths. The intensity of light and nutrients affect the concentration of seaweed pigments.

Abstract

Luffa is one of the most popular vegetables and has a high nutritional value. Organic fertilizer can increase plant growth and yield, also can increase soil fertility without side effects such as inorganic fertilizer. One of the materials that is abundantly available and can be obtained easily as a basic ingredient in making organic fertilizer is human urine. Human urine contains several important nutrients needed by plants. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of organic fertilizer on growth and yield of luffa, and also to determine the best consentration. This research used Completely Randomized Design with 5 levels treatment 0, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. Each treatment was repeated 4 times, so there were 20 experimental units. The results showed that liquid organic fertilizer affected on the number and weight of luffa fruit. The concentration of liquid organic fertilizer 30% and 40% produce the highest number of fruit, while a concentration of 10% gives the largest fruit weight.

Abstract

Efforts to fulfill food demands for Indonesian to comply with population increases endorse to extend production areas to marginal lands. Sorghum which has an ability to adapt with less favourable growing environments almost has nutritional values as good as corn, but this crop is less cultivated by farmers. Adaptation mechanisms of sorghum to environmental stresses are by producing natural allelopathies. Those allelochemicals could be properly managed as natural herbicides for sorghum production in swamplands. This review aimed to describe the potential uses of allelochemicals produced by sorghum for sustainable sorghum production in swamplands. Reviews concluded that (1) sorghum is most likely suitable for swamplands due to its wide range abilities to cope biotic and abiotic stressors, (2) sorghum is able to increase the production of sorgoleone, dhurrin and phenolic allelochemicals, and (3) those allelochemical extracts could be developed as bioherbicide compounds for sustainable production of various crops.

Abstract

Langsa Estuary is one of the areas that has a pond area by utilizing the Kuala Langsa estuary as a source of water for community ponds. But many of the results of community ponds that experience crop failure due to disease caused by water circulation or management of pond water quality is not good. Therefore, it is necessary to do monitoring of the quality of the Kuala Langsa estuary waters in order to obtain information in seeing the suitability of the estuary as a shrimp pond commodity. The purpose of this study is to look at the distribution of the suitability level of pond water quality in Langsa estuary waters by utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) as the determination of information about the distribution of good water quality for pond commodities for brackish water aquaculture. The method used in determining the sampling point is a random sampling from the mouth of the estuary to inland waters as many as 60 sampling points, i.e. 17 sampling points are scattered in the Langsa estuary area and 43 sampling points are scattered on the pond plot around the Langsa estuary, and sampling testing is carried out in the Laboratory of the Environmental Health and Disease Control Engineering Center (BTKLPP) Medan. The results showed that the distribution of quality of pond commodities around the Langsa estuary was in accordance with S2 covering 1256.57 Ha or 69.81% followed by very suitable S1 covering 534.953 Ha or 29.72%, and according to conditional S3 covering an area of 8.541 Ha or 0.47%, however, it is necessary to pay attention to the chemical factor parameters

Abstract

Banana shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguensis) is an alternative species of local Indonesian shrimp that has the opportunity to be commercially cultivated. One important factor that influences shrimp growth is the feed. Improving the quality of shrimp feed can be done by adding probiotics, one of which is by using Bacillus coagulans. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of B. coagulans bacterium on feed on the growth, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate of Jerbung shrimp. This research was carried out for 35 days. The study design used was a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment was in the form of feed mixed with B. coagulans with a dose of 0 ml/kg of feed (control), 10ml×106CFU/kg of feed, 20ml×106CFU/kg of feed, and 30ml×106CFU/kg of feed. The results showed that the administration of B. coagulans mixed in the feed significantly affected the growth of weight, length, daily growth rate, feed conversion ratio, and protein efficiency ratio, not significantly different from the survival rate of the jerbung shrimp. The best treatment occurred in the treatment of B. coagulans 10ml×106 CFU/kg of feed.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: 1) The effect of liquid fertilizer concentration in increasing the growth and production of cucumbers. 2) The effect of pruning in increasing the growth and production of cucumbers. 3) The effect of different plant spacing in increasing cucumber growth and production. 4) The interaction between liquid fertilizer concentration and pruning in increasing the growth and production of cucumber plants. 5) Interaction between the concentration of liquid fertilizer with differences in spacing in increasing the growth and production of cucumber plants. 6) Interaction between pruning with differences in plant spacing in increasing growth and production of cucumber plants. 7) Interaction between differences in concentration of liquid fertilizer, pruning and spacing in increasing cucumber growth and production. The study was conducted from 28 March to 20 June 2019, at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Muhammadiyah Jember, with an altitude of 89 meters above sea level. The design used was a Randomized Block Design with 3 factors. The effect of the difference in the concentration of liquid fertilizer (N) was not significantly different except for the variable of flowering age and weight of the plots. The effect of pruning (P) was not significantly different except for the diameter of the stem age of 14 days after planting, the weight of planted fruit and the weight of plots. The effect of plant spacing (J) was not significantly different except for the variable height of the plant at the age of 14 days after planting and the diameter of the stem at the age of 7 days after planting. The interaction effect of liquid fertilizer concentration and pruning (NP) was not significantly different except for variable fruit length and plot weight. The effect of the interaction of liquid fertilizer concentration and plant spacing (NJ) was not significantly different except for variable age of flowering, fruit length and weight of the plot per fruit. The effect of trimming interaction and plant spacing (NJ) differed insignificantly except for variable fruit length and plot weight. The interaction effect of liquid fertilizer concentration, pruning and planting distance (NPJ) was not significantly different except for the variable length of fruit and weight of the plot per plot. The best liquid organic fertilizer concentration is 2ml / l water and 3 ml / l water, the best pruning is pruning 3 branches, and the best spacing is 40cmx60cm.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the character of hope lines in organic and inorganic cultivation. The study used a split plot design with three replications. As the main plot is the type of fertilizer with two level of organic fertilizer, complete fertilizer (organic + an organic) and organic fertilizer. As subplots were lines from Bengkulu local upland rice with three levels namely UNHZ 12, UNHZ 24 and UNHZ 31. The results showed that the type of fertilizer significantly affected plant height, number of productive tillers, panicle length, grain weight of 100 grains, and weight of grain per clump, but has no significant effect on the age of flowering, harvest age, and grain per panicle. The strain has a very significant effect on the number of productive tillers, flowering age, harvest age, panicle length, grain per panicle and grain weight of 100 grains. The interaction of fertilizers and strains has a very significant effect on panicle length, and the weight of 100 grains, significantly influences the number of panicle grains, has no significant effect on plant height, number of productive tillers, flowering age, harvest age, and grain weight per clump.

Abstract

Feed is one of the most important elements to support a fisheries aquaculture business activity. This study aims to examine the effect of feed composition on the growth of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The studi used a completely randomized design with three treatments and five replications. The treatments that tested were P1 = Kangkung Plant 100%, P2 = Lamtoro Leaf 100%, P3 = Kangkung Plant 50% + Lamtoro Leaf 50%. To find out whether there was an influence or not on the treatment, analysis of variance was performed, while to see the effect of the best composition, a further test of Least Significant Difference (LSD) was performed at 5% and 1% levels. The parameters observed were absolute length, absolute weight, feed conversion, feed efficiency and survival. The results showed that different feed compositions did not affect absolute length and survival, but significantly affected the absolute weight of feed conversion and feed efficiency. The highest absolute length growth was the spinach plant 50% + Lamtoro leaf 50%, while for absolute weight, the best feed conversion and feed efficiency were found in lamtoro leaves with a survival rate of 92.50%.
