Abstract

Tolerance cultivar is a best control measure to reduce losses due to virus attack in the field.  Study on growth and yield of new cultivars compared to the commercial ones is an important step in cultivar development whether they will be accepted by farmers or not. The objective of this research was to study growth and yield of new chili pepper hybrids developed for CMV tolerance in comparison to a commercial and similar fruit size one. Twelve new hybrids and one commercial hybrid cultivar Prada, as a control, were evaluated in a completely randomized design with 3 replications. In the greenhouse experiment, H23 and H20 showed better vegetative growth compared to other hybrids and control. Hybrid H17 showed the highest yield followed by H5, H4 and H6.  Keywords.  growth, yield, chili pepper hybrids, CMV tolerance

Abstract

Green biomass is one of major nutrient source and determines the quality of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), including Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Kunth ex Walp. An experiment was conducted to study the effects of Gliricidia-enriched LOF on growth and yields of caisim, arranged in randomized complete design with three replicates. Treatments consisted of six LOF concentrations, 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. Results indicated that concentration of gliricidia-LOF significantly influenced leaf greenness and shoot fresh weight, but not root to shoot ratio and shoot water content.  Concentrations of gliricidia-LOF increased leaf greenness and shoot fresh weight of caisim. The optimum concentration was 70.85% to produce weight of 73 grams caisim per plant. Root to shoot ratio was not significantly different. Although treatments did not affect shoot water content, all caisim water content was on average above 90 %.

Abstract

Solid organic fertilizer is commonly applied for organic vegetable production in a closed agriculture production system as nutrient source. However, its availability is considered slow to sweet corn, and thus it is important to make additional nutrients supply as liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) through leaves. The experiments were conducted to compare effects of LOF application methods and to determine optimum LOF concentrations for sweet corn. Two separated factorial experiments, arranged in randomized complete block design with three replicates, were conducted from February to May and March to June 2015, respectively. The first factor was LOF application methods (soil and foliar) and the second factor was LOF concentration (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm). The observations focused on average weight of husked ear, length, weight and diameter un-husked ears. The results indicated that the effectiveness of soil application of LOF was 99.625 % as effective as foliar application in influencing sweet corn yields. Concentrations of LOF did not increase all observed variables, but yield attributes were within the range of variety description. It is concluded that in a closed production system, LOF application through soil is as effective as foliar application in affecting sweet corn yields.

Abstract

Pandemik Covid-19 memberikan dampak yang sangat luar biasa terhadap keseharian masyarakat dunia, termasuk masyarakat Kota Bengkulu.  Kelompok Tani merupakan salah satu unit sosial yang strategis untuk meningkatkan produktivas pertanian dan meningkatkan taraf hidup petani dan kemampuan beradaptasi dengan kondisi yang kurang menguntungkan.  Kelompok Tani Melati Kelurahan Kandang Limun yang memiliki latar belakang aktifitas memproduksi tanaman pangan dapat diperkenalkan dengan produksi tanaman sayuran untuk menopang kebutuhan hidupnya. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis persepsi petani terhadap tingkat pengetahuan, kebermanfaatan dan keberlanjutan produksi sayuran organik di Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dari data kuisioner responden. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa persepsi anggota Kelompok Tani Melati terhadap pengetahuan, kebermanfaatan dan keberlajutan tanaman sayuran organik tinggi.

Abstract

Kebanyakan petani tetap menggunakan dosis pupuk nitrogen sesuai rekomendasi dalam produksi cabai dengan menggunakan mulsa plastik hitam perak. Hasil penelitian sebelumnya mengindikasikan bahwa penggunaan mulsa mampu mengurangi pencucian nitrogen. Dengan demikian, perlu upaya untuk mencari seberapa banyak penurunan nitrogen yang dapat diberikan kepada cabai yang diproduksi dengan menggunakan mulsa. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kota Bengkulu dari Maret sampai September 2004 menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok lengkap dengan dua faktor dan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis mulsa yang digunakan ; mulsa plastik hitam perak, mulsa jerami padi dan tanpa mulsa. Faktor kedua adalah dosis nitrogen ; 115 kg/ha (dosis rekomendasi), 103,5 kg/ha, 92 kg/ha, dan 80,5 kg/ha. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat interaksi antara jenis mulsa dengan dosis nitrogen dalam meningkatkan atau menurunkan semua variabel yang diamati. Cabai yang ditanam dengan menggunakan mulsa jerami memiliki jumlah cabang dikotom yang lebih tinggi dibanding tanaman yang ditanam tanpa mulsa, tetapi tidak berbeda dengan cabai yang ditanam dengan mulsa plastik hitam perak. Meskipun tidak ada interaksi antara jenis mulsa yang digunakan dengan dosis nitrogen dalam meningkatkan atau menurunkan variabel yang diamati, penggunaan 80,5 kg/ha nitrogen (30 persen lebih rendah dari dosis rekomendasi) meningkatkan jumlah dan bobot buah tanaman cabai.Kata kunci : Mulsa plastik hitam perak, Capsicum annuum L., nitrogen.

Abstract

 Kopi Robusta Kepahiang telah mendapatkan sertifikat Indikasi Geografis (IG). Upaya untuk mempertahankan mutu kopi beras dilakukan dengan menerapkan teknologi panen yang baik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh tingkat kematangan buah saat dipanen terhadap kehilangan hasil akibat serangan penggerek buah kopi (PBKo) dan mutu kopi beras. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2019 sampai Agustus 2020 di Desa Bukit Sari, Kecamatan Kabawetan, Kabupaten Kepahiang, Provinsi Bengkulu. Tingkat kematangan buah kopi yang dipanen dibuat menjadi 3 kategori, yaitu: merah (K1), kuning kemerahan (K2), dan hijau kekuningan (K3). Parameter yang diamati adalah buah terserang PBKo, rendemen, mutu fisik kopi beras dan kandungan kimianya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat serangan PBKo tertinggi terjadi pada buah panen merah sebesar 34,33%, sedangkan rendemen tertinggi pada buah panen hijau kekuningan sebesar 20,52%. Persentase kehilangan hasil akibat serangan PBKo tertinggi terjadi pada buah merah sebesar 30,23%. Mutu fisik dan kandungan kimia yang terbaik diperoleh pada buah panen merah.

Abstract

Bamboo is naturel mixture because it can survive in many habitats and belongs to the order of angiosperms monocots. There are around 1200 – 1500 species of bamboo in the world that grow in hilly areas but do not grow in alkaline, desert and rice fields. Bamboo shoots can be processed into food and even herbal and traditional medicines. Bamboo shoots are a sourece of fiber that can be used as a nutraceutical. Bamboo shoots contain as much as 2.23 – 4.20 gfiber in 100 wet weights in the form of flour, thin slices and capsules. Dendrocalamus asper bamboo shoot flour, Bambusa tuldoides and Bambusa vulgaris with air content < 10 g /100, protein, lipid and ash content< 3 g /100 g and can obtain mineral content > 60 g /100g. Bamboo shoots are a good source of dietary fiber. This review supports the increasing benefits of bamboo shoots in the supports the increasing benefit in the health world to prevent an increase in blood sugar, as antihypertention, and antihyperuresemia. Bamboo shoots can be processed into fermented products containing Lactid Acid Bacteria (BAL) which are beneficial for intestinal microflora which are recommended as probiotics.

Abstract

Contamination of  heavy metals on the soil leads to an increase in its acidity. Vermicompost application is commonly used to improve the properties of soil. The study was carried out to determine the reduction of the acidity in Pb and Cd contaminated soils under the application of vermicompost. Two laboratory experiments were set using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was soil samples, vis Inceptisols, and Entisols, and the second factor was the rates of vermicompost, consisted of 0, 5, 10, 15 g kg-1. The treatment combination was repeated three times. The soils were pretreated with 10 mg kg-1 Pb or Cd using Pb(NO3)2 and Cd(NO3)2. Three hundred kg soil sample was incorporated with vermicompost and placed in a 500 ml plastic bottle. The mixtures were incubated for eight weeks, and the moisture of the soil was maintained at field capacity. The acidity and soil temperature were monitored every week. The study indicated that Pb contaminated soil acidity increased to the sixth week of the incubation and decreased afterward. However, the acidity of Cd contaminated soil was consistently increased during the incubation. Treatment of vermicompost significantly lowered the acidity of both Pb and Cd contaminated soils. Contaminated Entisols had a higher response to the application of vermicompost than that of Inceptisols. This finding is significant in assessing acidity risk and possible management intervention for Pb and Cd contaminated soils.

Abstract

[RELATIONSHIP OF SLOPE STEEPNESS TO SOIL WATER CONTENT, SOIL PH, AND PERFORMANCES OF GERGA ORANGE AT LEBONG REGENCY]. In Lebong Regency, gerga orange is commonly grown in hilly areas and many of the crop stands were found on steep sloped land. Objective of this study was to determine the pattern of relationship of slope steepness to soil water content, soil pH, and the overall plant performances. Soil samples were collected from the area below the canopy of 300 gerga orange trees differing in the slope steepness for for soil water content (SWC) and soil pH.  The observation of plant performances were also made from the same tree as used for the soil properties observations. The analysis of regression indicated that relationship of slope steepness to both the observed soil properties and plant performances could be represented by the linear models suggesting that all the observed variables were reduced along with the increasing slope steepness.

Abstract

Ultisol is very promising area for Indonesian chili pepper production. This experiment aimed to determine General Combining Ability (GCA), Specific Combining Ability (SCA), heterosis and heterobeltiosis estimates of seven parental lines; A(KG1), B(KG2), C(KG3), D(KG4), E(KG5/UNIB-C-GTS1), F(KG6), and G(KG7) through full-diallel parental crosses. Experiment was conducted from July to November 2012 and designed in Randomized Complete Block with three replications. Results indicated that parent C(KG 3) had the highest GCA estimates for fruit length and fruit weight per plant. Parent F(KG6) had the highest fruit number per plant. Parents B(KG2), D(KD4) and G(KD7) had the highest GCA estimates for fruit diameter. Cross combinations C(KG3)xF(KG6) had the highest SCA estimates for fruit weight and fruit number per plant, whereas G(KG7)xC(KG3) and D(KG4)xG(KG7) had the highest SCA estimates for fruit length and fruit diameter. Cross combinations G(KG7)xC(KG3) and F(KG6)xC(KG3) had the highest heterosis and heterobeltiosis estimates for fruit weight per plant, whereas D(KG4)xB(KG2) and D(KG4)xE(KG5) had the highest heterosis and heterobeltiosis estimates for fruit number per plant. Cross combinations B(KG2)xE(KG5) and D(KG4)xG(KG7) had the highest heterosis and heterobeltiosis estimates for fruit length and fruit diameter. It is suggested that G(KG7)xC(KG3) and F(KG6)xC(KG3) are the most promising chili pepper hybrids grown in Ultisol.
