Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the type of natural growth regulator and the length of soaking on the growth of pepper plant cuttings. The experimental design used was a factorial randomized block design consisting of 2 factors. Factor I is the influence of giving several types of natural ZPT and factor II is the length of soaking. The results of the research concluded that the type of natural growth regulator had a very significant effect on the growth percentage of pepper cuttings and shoot height, but had no significant effect on the number of shoots, number of leaves, root length and root weight. The treatment of onion extract and coconut water provided the best growth of pepper cuttings. The length of soaking had a very significant effect on the growth percentage of pepper cuttings and shoot height, but had an insignificant effect on the number of shoots, number of leaves, root length and root weight. Soaking time of 20 minutes provides the best growth of pepper cuttings. The interaction between the type of natural growth regulator and the length of soaking had a very significant effect on growth percentage and shoot height, but had no significant effect on shoot height, number of shoots, number of leaves, root length and root weight. The best interaction on the percentage of growth of pepper cuttings was the Z0L3, Z1L1, Z1L2, Z1L3, Z2L1, Z2L2 treatment, while the shoot height and age were the Z2L3 combination.

Abstract

Cherry tomatoes have high economic value, but their production is low, this is due to the low quality of seeds. Coating and storage are efforts made to maintain seed quality. This study aims to examine the effect of coating materials and shelf life on seed viability and cherry tomato growth. The experimental design used is Time Series with a long storage series and coating on seeds. The long storage consists of 4 levels; 0, 30, 60, and 90 days and the Coating Material consists of 4 levels; uncoating, PEG 6000, Arabic Gum, Galangal Powder, and Clove Oil with 3 replications. The data analyzed with Honest Real Difference Test. The results showed that Clove oil hasn’t effect the germination. Uncoated and unstored seeds have the highest moisture content. Plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight of the stamp, dry weight of the stamp, and flowering time have no effect, this is due to internal factors such as seed genetics and external factors such as the concentration of coating materials and plant growth environment.

Abstract

Wild betta fish has high economic value as one of the ornamental fish commodities in Indonesia.  The potential for cultivation development so far has not been maximized so that it still relies on the results of capture from nature. The main key to the development of wild fish farming is actually dependent on food conversion and water quality. Water quality management must adjust to its habitat in nature, however, the study of the physical chemical parameters of wild betta fish waters endemic to Sumatra has not been widely reported. Studies related to habitat characteristics can be used as the basis for aquaculture management in the future. This study aims to analyze the condition of the physical parameters of aquatic chemistry in the natural habitat of wild betta fish in the Regency Labuhanbatu Selatan, Labuhanbatu, and Labuhanbatu Utara. This research is exlorative by observing physical and chemical factors carried out insitu and exitu. The research data is analyzed quantitatively, presented discriptively and discussed based on relevant literature. The results of the main component analysis (Principal Component Analysis) show the main characteristic parameters of wild betta fish habitat in the form of: BOD, COD, DO, conductivity, temperature, and pH. Based on the results of UPGMA analysis, the percentage of similarity of stations 1 and 2 (90.5%) while station 3 (83.6%). It was concluded that the key parameters for wild betta fish farming activities are BOD, COD, DO, conductivity, temperature, and pH and these parameters need to be measured continuously.
