Abstract

Fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate reflect the macroeconomic dynamics experienced by a country. Exchange rate instability is often triggered by external factors, one of which is socio-political conflicts such as wars, violence against civilians, explosions, and protests. This study aims to examine the impact of various types of conflicts on the changes in USD-IDR in Indonesia. The research was conducted using data from 2015–2022 and applying the Generalized Linear Model (GLM) approach, specifically Poisson regression with a log link function, which is deemed appropriate for count-type data that do not follow a normal distribution. Exchange rate data was obtained from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), while conflict data came from the Armed Conflict Location Event Data (ACLED) database. The independent variables analyzed include the categories of war, civil violence, explosions, and protests. The estimation results show that war has a significant negative impact on the exchange rate, while incidents of explosions and protests have a significant positive impact. On the other hand, civil violence has not been statistically proven to have an impact. The results of this study indicate that not all types of conflict have the same impact on exchange rates, making it important for policymakers to identify and differentiate types of conflict in economic analysis. This study opens up opportunities for further research by incorporating other macroeconomic variables and cross-country comparative approaches.

Abstract

Leadership is a fundamental element that determines the effectiveness of an organization, both in wartime and peacetime contexts. This study aims to analyze the application of transformational leadership theory in the military context, during both periods of conflict and peace. Transformational leadership theory is considered relevant because it explains how leaders can inspire, motivate, and collectively develop their subordinates in facing dynamic challenges within the military environment. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were obtained through a literature review of various scholarly sources on leadership, military organizations, and the transformational theory developed by Bass and Avolio. The findings indicate that transformational leadership can be effectively applied in the military, both to address operational pressures during wartime and to build organizational structure and personnel during peacetime. These findings affirm that principles such as idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration significantly contribute to improving morale, efficiency, and the resilience of military organizations. However, certain limitations, such as the hierarchical structure and command culture, remain challenges in its implementation. This study recommends strengthening leadership training based on transformational values in the future development of military organizations

Abstract

In the contemporary landscape of global governance, persistent tensions exist between national strategic interests and the urgent need for international collaboration. Major global challenges such as climate change, digital security, and inequality demand coordinated responses across nations. Yet, state actors often prioritize sovereign goals, creating friction in efforts toward collective action. This study examines these tensions and evaluates the relevance of international institutions like the United Nations (UN) and World Trade Organization (WTO) amid shifting power dynamics, rising nationalism, and protectionist policies. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review, the research analyzes how the fragmentation of global governance undermines institutional effectiveness. The study emphasizes that developing countries are gaining influence due to demographic shifts and economic growth, highlighting the need for inclusive decision-making processes. Findings indicate a legitimacy crisis among international institutions struggling to adapt to these geopolitical shifts. The study concludes that overcoming structural polarization requires balancing national interests with cooperative global strategies. Strengthening institutional capacity and embracing inclusive policies are essential for ensuring long-term security, stability, and sustainability in an increasingly interconnected world.

Abstract

Indonesia's geographically challenging frontier regions. As border areas face unique educational challenges, including infrastructure limitations, teacher shortages, and cultural complexity, conventional leadership approaches often prove insufficient. Blue Ocean Leadership is a strategy that focuses on unlocking the untapped talent and motivation of employees by shifting leadership actions from traditional, competitive approaches to those that create value and inspire engagement. Drawing on blue ocean strategy principles and adaptive leadership frameworks, this research investigates how educational leaders in Indonesian border regions create uncontested leadership spaces while adapting to local contexts. Through narrative analysis of twenty-five in-depth interviews with educational leaders across five border provinces, this study identifies four transformative leadership patterns: context-sensitive innovation, cross-border collaborative networks, cultural integration in pedagogical approaches, and technology-enabled resilience. The findings reveal how adaptive leadership creates value through both structural improvements and cultural-pedagogical innovations. This research contributes to educational leadership literature by demonstrating how blue ocean leadership principles can be contextually adapted to address the distinctive challenges of border education management while building regional resilience. The study provides actionable insights for educational policymakers and practitioners in similar geopolitically complex regions worldwide.

Abstract

The current entrepreneurship rate in Indonesia is only 3.47%, much lower than neighboring countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. This shows that there is a significant gap in the development of entrepreneurship in Indonesia, which is very important to drive economic growth. Entrepreneurship plays an important role in job creation, innovation, and diversification of economic income sources. In this context, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the main pillars of sustainable economic growth and contribute positively to improving the community’s quality of life. This study aims to review the role of MSMEs in contributing to national economic resilience, both when the economic situation is stable and dynamic. This study uses a descriptive approach based on the data and information obtained. This study found that MSMEs have a crucial role in improving people’s welfare and supporting economic growth in Indonesia, which affects national economic resilience. MSMEs also contribute significantly to the development of creativity and innovation and are able to adapt to dynamic market changes. The government should provide facilities and access to digital technology, export markets, and financing. Supportive policies and simpler regulations must be improved to strengthen the MSME sector. A holistic approach is needed to implement cross-sector collaboration involving government, business, academics, and communities to support sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

The issue of refugees throughout history, war, and famine has caused population shifts, causing significant displacement and suffering. Today, the number of people has been pushed from their homes hit a record high with the ongoing trend of the world’s conflict. The influx of refugees has created humanitarian and security dilemmas for many countries, including Indonesia. The Indonesian government sees the wave of refugees entering the country as a threat to national security. At the same time, the Indonesian government cannot turn a blind eye for humanitarian reasons. This study analyzes how Indonesia balances humanitarian and security considerations in its efforts to protect refugees. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study discovers that from Indonesia’s national security point of view, accepting refugees has several political, security, and social-economic consequences; hence, it requires further thorough examinations. Ratifying the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol with all the following obligations is not the right choice for Indonesia at this time. Refugee issues will also cause immediate effects on the local economy, labor markets, businesses, and social infrastructure, which will cause greater social friction. However, in the name of humanity, Indonesia must continue to support refugee management by maintaining its position as a transit country through better management and a strong legal framework created to this end. This study recommends maximizing Indonesia's role as the Chair of ASEAN and as the former non-permanent member of the UN Security Council to enhance diplomacy and negotiations with Myanmar and the host countries of refugees. Indonesia can strengthen its coastline security and strictly check people entering Indonesia's territory.

Abstract

The development of Bengkulu Naval Airbase is a strategic initiative to enhance Indonesia's maritime defense capabilities, but various barriers have hindered its implementation. This study investigates the obstacles and supporting factors and provides actionable recommendations for its realization. This research uses the Suhirwan Quasy Qualitative methodological procedure comprising 13 distinct steps. In the initial phase, theoretical frameworks are utilized to construct structured interview guidelines for data collection. During the final phase, the same theoretical foundations serve to validate and confirm research findings derived from empirical data. The methodology combines theory and evidence through a two-phase approach: first as a design framework, then as an analytical validation tool. Data was collected through structured interviews and documentary studies from Navy officials, the Governor of Bengkulu, and stakeholders. The analysis uses triangulation to cross-check findings from multiple data sources and perspectives, ensuring rigor and validity. The findings emphasize the importance of leadership commitment, especially from the Bengkulu Governor, and effective coordination with the Ministry of Transportation. The study shows that developing the Bengkulu Naval Airbase is vital not only for maritime defense but also for boosting the local economy and community development. To address implementation challenges, the study recommends formalizing inter-agency coordination, optimizing resource distribution based on performance, and strengthening leadership support through accountability and training, all tailored to the military airbase context and informed by theory and practice. By addressing these factors, the Indonesian Navy can effectively develop the Bengkulu naval airbase, supporting broader national security goals.

Abstract

The rapid integration of autonomous systems into military operations has revolutionized naval defense, with Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) emerging as a critical technology for maritime operations. USVs offer unique advantages in surveillance, reconnaissance, and maritime security. However, their effectiveness remains constrained by the reliance on human operators for critical decision-making, particularly in complex and rapidly evolving maritime environments. This study addresses these limitations by advancing USV autonomy through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), resilient communication networks, and multisensory navigation systems. Through a comprehensive literature review, this research evaluates current USV applications, identifies gaps in existing technologies, and explores advancements in other countries, including case studies of operational successes and failures. A comparative analysis of Unmanned Aerial Vessels (UAVs) and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) is also conducted to highlight the unique role of USVs in naval operations and justify their selection for this study. The findings reveal that AI-driven decision-making reduces human oversight, enhances adaptability, and increases operational efficiency. Resilient communication protocols ensure coherent operations in contested environments, while multisensory navigation systems improve situational awareness and environmental responsiveness. These innovations collectively enhance mission success rates and tactical flexibility, underscoring the transformative potential of autonomous USVs in modern naval defense. The study concludes with a robust framework for advancing USV technologies, advocating their integration into naval operations to address the complexities of contemporary maritime threats and redefine the future of autonomous maritime systems.
