Abstract

Semah fish (Tor douronensis) is one of the commodities that has the potential to be developed. Currently, the production of larvae and seeds is still very difficult to increase. The slow growth of semah fish larvae is a factor that greatly affects the amount of seed production produced. This study aims to determine the optimal density in the larval maintenance of Semah fish (Tor douronensis). The research was conducted using a Complete Random Design (RAL) environmental design with 4 (four) treatments and 3 (three) replicates, each of which was a stocking density of 3 heads/liter (A), stocking density of 6 heads/liter (B), stocking density of 9 heads/liter (C) and stocking density of 12 heads/liter (D). The fish used in this study were semah fish larvae measuring ± 1.00 cm and weighing approximately between 0.011–0.012 grams. The parameters observed in this study include abnormalities, and water quality. Based on the results of the study, the average abnormality of semah fish larvae ranges from 8.33% – 72.47%. The results of the water quality analysis of the maintenance media showed that the water quality was still in the decent range for the maintenance of semah fish larvae. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the optimal density in the maintenance of semah fish larvae (Tor douronensis) is treatment A (3 fish/liter).

Abstract

The nursing phase of Jelawat Fish (Leptobarbus hoevenii Blkr) is a crucial stage in aquaculture, where preparing healthy and robust fry poses a significant challenge. The availability of fry for grow-out activities remains low, consequently limiting the production of Jelawat Fish. This study aims to determine the optimal stocking density under an intensive culture system by evaluating production performance and physiological conditions in a recirculating system for 40 days. The study was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replications for each treatment: A (5 individuals/L), B (10 individuals/L), C (15 individuals/L), and D (20 individuals/L). The results showed that high stocking densities significantly affected absolute weight gain (AWG), absolute length gain (ALG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), weight variation coefficient (WVC), and length variation coefficient (LVC). The weight gain increased from 0.50±0.09 g/individual to between 1.51±0.03 g/individual and 1.86±0.05 g/individual, while the initial length of 4.10±0.29 cm/individual increased to a final range of 5.36±0.05 to 5.72±0.06 cm/individual. The lowest FCR was observed at a stocking density of 10 individuals/L (1.33), whereas the highest FCR was found at 20 individuals/L (1.52). Water quality parameters remained within the optimal range for Jelawat Fish culture throughout the study. Therefore, a stocking density of 10 individuals/L is recommended as the best option to achieve optimal growth while maintaining stable physiological conditions in fish.

Abstract

This study was conducted as an initial step in the domestication process of endemic fish in Jambi Province through an artificial feed adaptation approach. In addition, there is little data and research in Jambi Province that systematically discusses and tests artificial feed adaptation as part of domestication. This study aims to analyze the feed adaptation response in the cultivation of sepat fish (Trichopodus pectoralis), tambakan fish (Helostoma temminckii), and betok fish (Anabas testudineus) originating from the public waters of Kota Karang Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muaro Jambi as the initial stage of domestication. This study used a completely randomized design) with three treatments and three replicates. The treatments applied were different types of endemic Jambi fish, including sepat fish (T. pectoralis, treatment A), tambakan fish (H. temminckii, treatment B), and betok fish (A. testudineus, treatment C). The fish used in this study were wild fish obtained from public waters in Kota Karang Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muaro Jambi Regency. The average initial weight and length of sepat fish were 3.37±0.98 g and 6.32±1.52 cm, tambakan fish 7.65±0.74 g and 8.17±0.59 cm, and betok fish 8.03±1.13 g and 7.57±1.14 cm. Maintenance was carried out for 4 weeks, during which the test fish were fed artificial feed or commercial feed (39% protein). The feeding method was Ad-restricted. Feeding frequency is three times a day, namely in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The results of the study show that the SR value produced is 100% for all treatments. The highest PBM value is found in treatment A (sepat fish) at 1.34 g and the lowest PBM value is found in treatment C (betok fish) at 0.82 g. The highest PPM value was found in treatment A (sepat fish) at 1.12 cm, and the lowest PPM value was found in treatment B (tambakan fish) at 0.39 cm. The highest LPS value was found in treatment C (betok fish) at 6.40%/day, and the lowest LPS value was found in treatment A (sepat fish) at 3.54%/day. In general, the water quality parameters of the maintenance medium were suitable for the growth and survival of freshwater fish.

Abstract

Low fry quality and the lack of continuous fry availability are major constraints in Nile tilapia cultivation. One of the primary factors contributing to poor fry quality is the inadequate nutritional quality of broodstock feed. Egg stimulant is a feed additive containing multivitamins and minerals that can enhance egg production, improve egg quality, extend the spawning phase, and accelerate gonadal maturation. However, its effectiveness depends on species, broodstock age, and environmental conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of egg stimulant supplementation on larval productivity of Nirwana strain Nile tilapia at Ernawati Farm Galunggung (EFG) through broodstock feeding. Five treatments with three replications were applied, consisting of egg stimulant dosages of 0.25 g/kg, 0.33 g/kg, 0.5 g/kg, 1 g/kg, and a control. Observed parameters included the number of larvae produced per harvest and the daily growth rate of both female and male broodstock during the spawning period. Supplementation of egg stimulant to broodstock feed significantly increased the number of larvae produced per cycle, with the best performance observed in treatment P IV (1 g/kg). However, feed supplementation with egg stimulant did not result in a significant difference in broodstock body weight growth for either sex. Nevertheless, numerical improvements in weight gain were observed, indicating that the supplementation did not inhibit growth and supported the physiological performance of the broodstock

Abstract

The blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is a high-value fishery commodity in Indonesia and plays a vital role in supporting the livelihood of coastal communities. The reproductive aspect, particularly the gonadal maturity stage (GMS) of the blue swimming crab, serves as a key indicator in describing spawning readiness. Furthermore, observations of GMS provide insights into spawning patterns and the size at first maturity, which are essential parameters for biologically based fisheries management. This study aimed to examine the gonad maturity stages (GMS) of female P. pelagicus caught using collapsible traps (bubu) in the coastal waters of Candi, Pamekasan, Madura. Sampling was conducted from August to December 2024 using a random sampling method from local fishers’ catches. The gonad maturity stages were determined visually based on APRI (2020) guidelines, classifying female crabs into three stages: GMS I (immature), GMS II (developing), and GMS III (mature or ovigerous). A total of 1,559 individuals were analyzed, showing a strong dominance of GMS II (96.86%), followed by GMS I (1.09%) and GMS III (2.05%). The highest proportion of GMS III occurred in October (2.97%) and the lowest in November (1.04%). The dominance of GMS II indicates that most of the captured crabs were in the gonad development phase toward maturity. The low proportion of GMS III suggests that the observation period (August–December) was not the main spawning season in the study area. Temporal variation in GMS distribution is likely influenced by environmental factors such as seasonal changes, habitat type, food availability, and fishing pressure. These findings provide essential reproductive biological data that can support the sustainable management of blue swimming crab fisheries in the Pamekasan waters.

Abstract

Land use change significantly alters the hydrological characteristics of watersheds, especially in rapidly urbanizing river basins like the Citarum, Indonesia. This study aimed to assess the impact of land cover transformation on flood risk by integrating spatial modeling using Cellular Automata–Artificial Neural Network (CA–ANN) with hydrological simulation via HEC-HMS. Multi-temporal Landsat-8 imagery (2014–2024) was used to classify and project land cover to 2029, while Curve Number (CN) values derived from land use types were employed to estimate surface runoff. The results indicated a substantial increase in built-up areas, particularly in the midstream and downstream regions, replacing agricultural lands and reducing vegetative cover. This shift significantly raised CN values across most sub-watersheds, resulting in increased peak discharge, especially in Cikeruh, Cikapundung, and Cibeet. Flood risk mapping showed that over 50% of the sub-watersheds fall into the moderate to high-risk categories, driven by impervious surface expansion and declining infiltration capacity. This integrated spatial–hydrological approach underscores the importance of adaptive land use planning and watershed-based flood mitigation strategies. The findings offer a scientific basis for ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and inform policy-making in flood-prone urbanizing basins

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of adding probiotics at different doses in the rearing of Sangkuriang catfish (C. gariepinus) fry in a floating net system (KJT). The study was conducted for 40 days, from December 2024 to January 2025, at Pondok Pesantren Darul Ihsan Islamic Center, Muaro Jambi. A completely randomized design was used, consisting of four treatments with three replications: prpbiotics dose A (without probiotics), prpbiotics dose B (4 ml/kg), prpbiotics dose C (6 ml/kg), and prpbiotics dose D (8 ml/kg) of Raja Lele probiotic. The test fish used were Sangkuriang catfish fry with an initial weight of 5.46g–5.82g and a length of 8.38cm–8.63cm. The main test material was a liquid probiotic (Raja Lele). The rearing containers used were floating net cages measuring 1×1.5×1 meters. The observed parameters included growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), and water quality. The results showed a significant increase in fish weight and length. The initial weight of 3.00g increased to 42.34g–45.91g, while the initial length of 6cm–8cm increased to 18.00cm–18.34cm. PBM ranged from 36.52g to 40.45g, PPM ranged from 9.37cm to 9.95cm, LPSB ranged from 6.84%/day to 7.36%/day, FCR ranged from 0.98 to 1.13, and SR ranged from 81.39% to 88.89%. Water quality remained within a suitable range for catfish cultivation. These results indicate that probiotics in feed have a positive effect on the growth and survival of Sangkuriang catfish

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) as a natural anesthetic for closed-system transportation of striped catfish fry (Pangasius hypophthalmus). Three clove oil doses (4, 5, and 6 mL per container) were tested for induction time, anesthesia duration, and fish survival rate during eight hours of transportation. The results showed that the 5 mL dose was optimal, with an induction time of 0.38 ± 0.05 minutes, anesthesia duration of 120 ± 3.6 minutes, and a survival rate of 70%. The 4 mL dose produced the highest survival rate (83.3%) but showed less stable anesthetic effects, while the 6 mL dose reduced survival due to eugenol toxicity. Water quality parameters (temperature 28.8–30.7°C; pH 6.7–7.2; DO 6.2–7.3 mg/L) remained within optimal ranges. Therefore, clove oil is effective as a natural anesthetic to reduce stress and maintain the survival of striped catfish fry during closed-system transportation
