Abstract

Research on the analysis of environmental characteristics of KJA system fish farming in Wael Sub Village, West Seram Regency aims to analyze internal and external environmental factors of aquaculture development with KJA system in Wael Hamlet and formulate strategies and priorities for the development of aquaculture with KJA system in Wael Sub Village, West Seram Regency. To analyze the potential for aquaculture development using the EAA (Ecosystem Approach to Aquaculture) method approach. Aquaculture development according to FAO (2010), has shifted from conventional approaches to the ecosystem approach to aquaculture (EAA). The development of aquaculture with the KJA system in the waters of Wael Sub Village by 12 groups of farmers is in accordance with the allocation of space, land suitability and supported by good water quality conditions. Socially, aquaculture businesses with KJA absorb local labor. Economically, this business is profitable. There are already formal institutions in aquaculture management with their respective duties and authorities. The results of the analysis with the EAA approach that assesses the existing conditions of mariculture business development using the KJA system in Wael Sub Village show that this business still has the potential to continue to be developed.

Abstract

One of the obstacles in cultivating catfish (Clarias sp.) is its low feed efficiency. Therefore, a breakthrough innovation is needed in catfish cultivation to increase the efficiency of feed utilization which will lead to increase the production and profits in catfish cultivation businesses. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of supplementation of pineapple and banana stem crude extract on the growth performance of catfish in flooded peat ponds. In this study, pineapple and banana stem crude extract was mixed into the feed at doses of 0 (A), pineapple  stem crude extract 6% (B), banana stem crude extract 2% (C), and combination pineapple 6% and banana stem crude extract 2% (D) with three repetitions. Fish with an initial weight of 1.25 g were randomly stocked in 12 nets sizing 1 x 1 x 1 m3 installed in earthen ponds at a density of 40 fish/net. Fish were given the experimental feed to apparent satiation twice a day for 14 days. Supplementation combination of pineapple at a dose of 6% and banana stem crude extract at a dose of 2% (treatment D) showed better results on catfish growth performance compared to other treatments. Supplementation combination of pineapple and banana stem crude extract showed a positive effect on feed consumption efficiency (160 g), feed utilization efficiency (100,4%) as indicated by the feed conversion ratio value (1.05) which was lower than other treatments. Supplementation of pineapple stem crude extract can be a new breakthrough innovation in the fish cultivation in peat ponds considering its significant role in reducing oxidative stress during fish cultivation

Abstract

The use of herbal medicines and probiotics in cultivation has now been widely used and proven to be able to improve growth performance and disease resistance, such as in herbal plants from forest onions (Eleutherine bulbosa). Field applications use herbal medicines and probiotics together in feed by fermentation. However, there is no information about E. bulbosa simplicia powder and its potential if fermented together with Pro-KJ probiotics, as well as the phytochemical content and other compounds of E. bulbosa simplicia powder. This research aims to determine the phytochemical content and other compounds of the herbal medicine forest onion as well as its prebiotic potential for Pro-KJ probiotics in vitro. The parameters observed in this study were qualitative phytochemical identification using the color visualization method, proximate detection using the gravimerti method, and total bacteria detection using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. Three levels of simplicia powder doses were tested using the Pro-KJ probiotic co-culture method, namely doses of 0.625%, 1.25%, and 2.5%, as well as control or without the addition of E. bulbosa simplicia powder. The research results showed that the phytochemical screening of simplicia powder from E. bulbosa was positive for containing flavonoids, saponins, and steroids, while other compounds such as protein were 11.33%, water content was 9.59%, ash content was 4.66%, fat content was 2.51%, and crude fiber was 1.75%. The results of the joint culture of simplicia powder with pro-KJ probiotics showed that E. bulbosa simplicia powder did not inhibit the growth of pro-KJ probiotics. The best dose that can increase the growth of Pro-KJ probiotics is 1.25%. Thus, E. bulbosa simplicia powder can be used with Pro-KJ probiotics for aquaculture organisms.

Abstract

There are several obstacles for dumbo catfish farmers that result in losses, one of which is disease.  Diseases caused by parasitic infections can cause irritation to external organs such as gills and skin. This can cause disruption of respiration and osmoregulation processes and reduce fish immunity.   The population of ectoparasites in fish in the aquatic environment can be monitored through the identification of parasites by calculating their prevalence and intensity.  This study aims to identify ectoparasites, analyze the prevalence rate, intensity of ectoparasite attacks that attack dumbo catfish.  Sampling for 5 times in one week for 20 working days with the number of samples to be obtained as much as the catch of 3 stations.  Ectoparasites found in dumbo catfish are Dactylogyrus sp, Trichodina sp, Chilodonella sp, and Oodinium sp. The highest prevalence value was found in Dactylogyrus sp at station III with a percentage of 100% with a very frequent infection category. The highest intensity value was Trichodina sp. at station II which was 24.4 individuals/head with moderate category. The dominating ectoparasite was Dactylogyrus sp. The number of infected dumbo catfish was 30 out of 30 samples tested.  In Dactylogyrus sp there were a total of 258 parasites, followed by Chilodonella sp with a total of 69 parasites from 30 samples, Oodinium sp had a total of 47 parasites and Trichodina sp had a total of 151 parasites from 30 samples.  Water quality parameters measured during the study showed good values for the growth of dumbo catfish in the rearing ponds.

Abstract

The production of aquaculture in East Kalimantan Province in 2023 was recorded at 162,124 tons. This data indicates that the need for fish feed (pellets) is also very large. Meanwhile, it is known that the price of feed continues to climb. This study aims to observe the effect of the use of palm kernel meal, as an alternative feed ingredient, which is fermented using EM4 with different doses on the activity of digestive enzymes and the growth of gourami fish weight. The doses of EM4 used were 0 mL/kg (P1), 4 mL/kg (P2), and 8 mL/kg (P3). Based on the results of the analysis of variance, it was known that the inclusion of fermented palm kernel meal significantly (P<0.05) affected activities of amylase, protease, and lipase enzymes. The highest value of digestive enzyme activity was observed in P2 which produced amylase enzyme activity of 6.31 U/mL, protease 0.46 U/mL, and lipase 0.38 U/mL, and then followed by P3 which produced amylase enzyme activity of 4.76 U/mL, protease 0.39 U/mL, and lipase 0.35 U/mL. The lowest value of activity was observed in gourami treated with P1 which produced amylase enzyme activity of 4.048 U/mL, protease 0.36 U/mL, and lipase 0.31 U/mL. Analysis of variance also showed that fermented palm kernel meal had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the weight growth of giant gourami. The highest weight gain was produced by P3 (2.16 g), then followed by P2 (1.79 g), and P1 (1.21 g). The best feed conversion was produced by P2 (2.32), followed by P3 (2.94), and P1 (3.28).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of adding pineapple peel flour (Ananas comosus) at different doses on the number of lactic acid bacteria in the intestine, growth and utilization of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry feed. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments with three replications was used in this research, namely the addition of pineapple peel flour at doses of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% in the feed. Tilapia fish fry with an average weight of 8,27±0,36 g were reared in a 30 L aquarium with 13 fish each for 30 days, with feeding three times a day according to treatment. ad satiation. The results showed that the addition of pineapple peel flour at a dose of 10-30% increased the number of lactic acid bacteria in the intestines of tilapia fry, higher than at a dose of 0% (P<0.05), namely around 4.10-4.17 log CFU/ mL. A dose of 20% pineapple peel flour in the feed resulted in the highest weight growth, specific growth rate, feed efficiency level and protein efficiency ratio compared to other treatments (P<0.05), each at 14.56 g; 2.88 %/day; 77%; and 2.41%. This shows that pineapple peel flour has potential as a feed additive in tilapia cultivation.

Abstract

Tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) has advantages for cultivation compared to several other freshwater fish However, the high price of fish feed causes the costs incurred by fish farmers to increase, therefore it is necessary to look for alternative feed ingredients. One of the ingredients for alternative feed that is abundant, high quality and easy to obtain is Palm Kernel Meal (PKM). The purpose of this research was to analyze the nutritional value of artificial feed made from palm kernel cake as the main ingredient fermented using EM4 with different concentrations and to analyze its effect on feed conversion, absolute weight growth and daily growth rate of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 4 replicates each. The treatments applied were unfermented palm kernel meal (P1), fermented palm kernel meal with a concentration of 4 ml/kg (P2), and fermented palm kernel meal with a concentration of 8 ml/kg (P3). The results of the proximate analysis of the feed showed that the protein content of the feed was 30.37 %, 30.17 % and 30.87 % for P1, P2 and P3 respectively. Meanwhile, the lipid content of feed P1, P2, and P3 is 3.00%, 9.04%, and 8.54% respectively. Another finding in this research was that the highest growth was produced by treatment P3 (46.33 g) and this was followed by treatments P2 (41.25 g) and P1 (36.68 g). Meanwhile, the calculation results showed that the best feed conversion ratio was produced by treatment P3 (2.13) and then followed by P2 (2.34) and P1 (2.78). An increase in feed lipid content which causes an increase in feed energy content is thought to increase the efficiency of protein use to support growth and reduce the feed conversion ratio value.
