The object of this research was the meaning contained in the Indonesian and English texts. The data analysis technique used is the equivalent method using the CEFR assessment. The results show that there are equivalent and not equivalent meanings, various CEFR levels, inconsistencies translation, and word for word translation technique. The conclusion in this study is the equivalence of the meaning of Indonesian - English words is mostly achieved. Based on the CEFR level, it is found that the A2 level is mostly at the beginner or basic user level. However, it is also found that the English equivalents are not suitable for children or for beginners based on CEFR levels such as C1 and C2 levels. There are inconsistencies in translation from the source language to the target/target language. Most of the translation techniques use word for word techniques.

Abstract

Learning English subject matter using Modal auxiliary verbs is felt difficult for students especially in creating simple sentences. Based on the results of the initial researchers' observations at SMPN 7 Mataram, English learning is still dominated by conventional learning. Therefore class VIII must be given an action in the form of more effectiveSpelling bee is a competition that asks students to spell the words as well as the sounds of a buzz. The Spelling bee is conducted orally, and it looks at contests of accuracy rather than speed. In this game, the pronouncer should allow students to ask for repetitions, sample sentences, the meaning of the word. The pronouncer has to give them the possible chance of spelling their words correctly. Regarding the definition, the researcher tries to conduct the spelling bee game in teaching vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of MTs Hidayatullah Mataram. The objective of the research is to investigate whether the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect on students' vocabulary or not, and the scope of the study only focuses on noun and verb. This research uses a quasi-experimental design and purposive technique sampling. The researcher takes two classes that are divided into an experimental and a control class. The population of the seventh-grade students consists of 50 students where the control class or VIIA consists of 25 students, and the experimental class or VIIB consists of 25 students. This research uses pre-test and post-test to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researcher uses SPSS program and manual computation in order to investigate whether the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect or not. Based on the result data  by using SPSS program shows that the mean score of the experimental class in pre-test is 50.84 which is classified as fairly score, and post-test is 80.96 is classified as Good score. The value of significance 2-tailed of Mann Whitney is 0.000 smaller than 0.05, it means that Ha is accepted. On the other hand, the manual computation shows that The value of t test = 2.800, df= 48, and t table for sig 0.05=1.677, and t table for sig 0.01= 2.406, it means that  t test is higher than t table.. Thus, the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect to the students' vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of MTs Hidayatullah Mataram in the academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Reading and language skill states clearly that in translating the texts, the translator absolutely needs three things. Firstly, the texts to be translated, secondly, the excellent dictionaries or idiom lists and the last is the translator’s individual ability in conveying the natural meaning of the text into the other form, style, language, term and so forth which is succesfully done systematically but retaining the original sense. The purpose of this research is to know the comparison between Science Classes and Social Classes students in translating reading passages to the second year students’ of SMAN 1 Labuapi in Academic Year 2014/2015. The population of the research was the third year students of SMAN 1 Labuapi. They were all two classes: class II IPA which total number 20, and class II IPS which total number 20 students, so the total population number were 40 students. They supposed to have been actively joinied the English lessons. This population homogeneous, because they all in the same level either regarding to their knowledge or their experiences. Comparative research or analysis is a broad term that includes both quantitative and qualitative comparison of social entities. The method of the study applied here is a comparative research method which include in ex-post-facto research design. This was inspired by the data which is needed to prove’ the hypothesis. Therefore, a simple treatment might be needed, as the reaserch described the existence of the different departements in translating some reading texts/passages at the third year students of SMAN 1 Labuapi in Academic Year for the data collection, the writer applied testing method. And the data would be analysed through basic statistical computation. After getting the last value of t-test with the t-table, it’s found that t-test = 2.40 with the t-table = 2.70 (0.01%), and t-test = 2.40 with the t-table = 2.02 (0.05%). It means that t-table is greater than t-test, it also means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which read that “the students of Science Classes program have better achievement in translating reading passages of SMAN 1 Labuapi in Academic Year 2014/2015 is accepted. While the Null Hypothesis, which sound “ the students of Social Classes program have better achievement in translating reading passages of SMAN 1 Labuapi in Academic Year 2014/2015 is rejected.

Abstract

Metacognitive awareness of reading strategy has a tremendous impact on the educational process, especially in acquiring a second language. It is concerned with not only what they suggest about how students organize their interactions with the context, but also with how they might employ the strategies that are still relevant to reading comprehension effectiveness. However, the EFL learners are still having a lack using metacognitive awareness of reading strategies significantly because of unknowing and inadequate understanding of what reading strategies to use, how and when to use them appropriately. Hence, the present study is attempted to locate the relationship between EFL learners’ metacognitive awareness of reading strategy and reading comprehension. A quantitative study, with 60 EFL students as participants, was conducted by using a questionnaire, and reading comprehension score to discover the level of EFL students’ Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategy. Those are the Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategy Inventory - revised (MARSI-R) and the Test English Proficiency (TEP) to discover the level of EFL students’ metacognitive awareness. The result of this study showed that 49 participants (mean 3.5 – >3.5), categorized as high group levels, and 11 participants (mean 2.5 – 3.4), categorized as moderate group levels. This research also revealed that the most strategies used by EFL learners found using PRS (Problem-solving strategies) M = 3.99; GRS (Global reading strategies) M = 3.98; and, SRS (Support reading strategies) M = 3.65. For the result of the Spearman Rho Coefficient showed that there is no correlation between EFL learners’ metacognitive awareness of reading strategy and reading comprehension (ρ value = .986).

Abstract

As a spread prevention of Covid-19 virus, schools must implement their learning process through online from Elementary School up to University including Jenderal Soedirman University. In the Covid-19 pandemic, English Education Department of Jenderal Soedirman University has already implemented Microteaching subject online or using E-Learning with the lecturer. This research uses a statistical calculation and interview data from 21 out of 31 respondents because some students have converted Microteaching credit in exchange of participation in Kampus Merdeka Program. There are 5 variables that influence Virtual Microteaching Class effectiveness. They are Enthusiasm, Learning Media, Learning Material, Task, and Lecturers’ Performance. However, the Enthusiasm variable (P=0.046) and Learning Media (P=0.020) are significant for the effectiveness of virtual Microteaching class. At the same time, other variables such as Learning Material (P=0.213), Task (P=0.166), and Lecturers’ Performance (P=0.166) are not significant for virtual Microteaching class. The effectiveness score of Virtual Microteaching Class for 6th semester students, English Education Department of Jenderal Soedirman University is 71% which means effective. The usage of Google Classroom for Virtual Microteaching Class has some disadvantages such as lack of video meeting features that most of the students need, and late notification caused by internet signal problems. As solutions to solve the problems of using Google Classroom for Virtual Microteaching class, lecturers need to explore the features of Google Classroom, and they are encouraged to use a better platform with a built-in virtual meeting and discussion features that can save large data and be downloaded at any time.
