Abstract

This study is motivated by the need to revitalize the role of mosques as centers of Islamic education that go beyond ritual worship by strengthening the spiritual and social dimensions of congregants. This research aims to analyze the educational strategies implemented by Baitul Huda Mosque in developing congregants’ spirituality through its Free Lunch Program. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation of mosque activities. The findings reveal that the program effectively cultivates Islamic values such as empathy, brotherhood, sincerity, and gratitude by integrating social services with Qur’anic learning and moral instruction. The novelty of this research lies in its formulation of an integrative educational strategy model that combines spiritual and social approaches within a daily philanthropic activity. This study contributes theoretically to the development of community-based Islamic education and offers practical insights for other mosques seeking to design inclusive and sustainable spiritual development programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of tazkiyatun nafs values in contemporary Islamic education from the perspective of Imam al-Ghazali, specifically within the book Ayyuhal Walad. The primary background of this research is the moral crisis, materialism, and the dichotomy of knowledge within modern educational systems. The method employed is qualitative library research with a descriptive-analytical approach, incorporating textual, contextual, and intertextual interpretations of al-Ghazali's thoughts. The results indicate that tazkiyatun nafs serves as a practical-applicative methodology in seeking knowledge, rather than merely an ethical theory. Three systematic stages relevant to contemporary education were identified: Takhalli (purification from blameworthy traits such as intellectual arrogance and worldly orientation), Tahalli (internalization of sincerity and respect for knowledge and teachers), and Tajalli (the actualization of spiritual values in real-world behavior). The gap analysis reveals that current education suffers from axiological and epistemological dryness, where highly educated graduates often lack moral integrity. Al-Ghazali provides a solution through five primary advisory points in Ayyuhal Walad, including time optimization and the integration of knowledge with deeds. The conclusion emphasizes that the implementation of tazkiyatun nafs is a fundamental solution to address the spiritual crisis in modern Islamic education. Education must not only focus on Intelligence Quotient (IQ) but must be rooted in soul purification to cultivate insan kamil (the perfect human). Practical recommendations for Islamic educational institutions include integrating a Sufism-based character curriculum that prioritizes role modeling and the process of heart purification as the core foundation of all learning activities to navigate increasingly complex contemporary challenges.

Abstract

Value education in contemporary society faces serious challenges due to the dominance of cognitive-oriented and instrumental educational approaches that are often detached from local cultural and spiritual contexts. As a result, character formation, moral awareness, and the cultivation of meaningful life values tend to be insufficiently internalized. Within the Hindu Kaharingan community, religious rituals continue to function as practical spaces for value formation, particularly through the Nyadiri ritual, which has commonly been perceived as a ceremonial practice rather than a pedagogical medium. This study aims to analyze the Nyadiri ritual as a form of Hindu Kaharingan spiritual ethnopedagogy and to explain its role in value learning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach grounded in a spiritual ethnopedagogical framework. Data were obtained through literature review, documentation of the Nyadiri ritual, and cultural narratives that reflect the Hindu Kaharingan community’s understanding of ritual meanings. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively through symbolic interpretation and reflective analysis to reveal the pedagogical dimensions embedded in the ritual. The findings indicate that the Nyadiri ritual embodies a systematic pedagogical structure despite not being formalized within institutional education. Spiritual, moral, and social values are transmitted through direct experience, ritual symbols, and collective participation across generations. The ritual functions as an experiential learning space that enables reflective and sustainable internalization of values. Its structure demonstrates an integration of spiritual awareness, moral habituation, and social solidarity that contributes to the formation of ethical consciousness and character. The study concludes that the Nyadiri ritual can be positioned as a model of spiritual ethnopedagogy that is relevant to the development of contextual, holistic, and sustainable value education. These findings highlight the strategic potential of local wisdom and religious ritual practices as meaningful resources for responding to contemporary educational challenges.

Abstract

Although multicultural Islamic Education has been widely discussed, limited studies have examined how Bhinneka Tunggal Ika values can be systematically integrated into the Islamic Education curriculum through a pedagogy of love, particularly in inclusive school contexts. This study aims to analyze the integration of national unity values into Islamic Education using a love-based curriculum approach as an integrative model for multicultural and inclusive education. Employing a qualitative descriptive library research design, this study analyzes scholarly books, peer reviewed journal articles, and policy documents published over the last decade, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis. The findings reveal three key contributions. First, curriculum adaptation oriented toward affective, relational, and inclusive dimensions enables deeper internalization of diversity values. Second, reflective and empathetic learning strategies such as dialogic reflection, collaborative activities among students with different abilities, and experiential projects effectively cultivate empathy, compassion, and respect for differences. Third, Islamic Education teachers function as central value mediators whose moral exemplarity and empathetic communication foster inclusive learning environments. This study contributes a novel conceptual positioning of the love-based curriculum as an integrative framework linking Islamic values, multicultural education, and inclusive schooling, and offers implications for curriculum development and future empirical research.

Abstract

Urban communities face complex challenges in Islamic education due to cultural diversity and tendencies toward religious formalism. As a multi-ethnic city, Palangka Raya requires an inclusive and spiritually meaningful approach to Islamic education. This article analyses the role of multicultural interpretation and philosophical hermeneutics in urban Islamic education through the perspective of Frithjof Schuon's perennialism. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature studies contextualized with the social reality of Palangka Raya and supported by limited interviews with educators and Islamic education figures. The analysis was conducted interpretively through philosophical synthesis. The results of the study show that multicultural interpretation functions as an inclusive ethical framework, philosophical hermeneutics encourages dialogical and contextual understanding, while Schuon's perennialism becomes a metaphysical foundation that integrates the exoteric and esoteric dimensions. The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of an integrative epistemological framework for the development of Islamic education in urban communities.

Abstract

Umrah is a widely practiced Sunnah worship that continues to attract a growing number of pilgrims, including those from Indonesia, alongside the ongoing digital transformation of Hajj and Umrah services. While digitalization aims to enhance efficiency and access control, limited empirical studies have examined document misuse within regulated worship spaces, particularly access to the Raudhah. This study addresses this gap by investigating the forms of Umrah pilgrim document misuse, identifying contributing factors, and analyzing its implications for access governance and service quality at the Raudhah. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, field observations, and analysis of official documents. The findings reveal that document misuse occurs through identity manipulation, unauthorized use of group schedules, and falsification of reservation evidence. These practices are driven by high demand for Raudhah access, quota limitations, weak supervision, and low digital literacy among pilgrims and organizers. The study contributes empirically to the discourse on Umrah governance by highlighting vulnerabilities in digital access systems and offering policy-oriented recommendations to strengthen verification mechanisms and inter-institutional coordination.

Abstract

This study examines the policy of involving non-Muslim hajj officers in Indonesia, focusing on the tension between bureaucratic efficiency and the religious sensitivity of the Muslim community. The study is motivated by the new policy of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, which permits non-Muslims to serve as hajj officers in specific administrative and technical roles. A qualitative descriptive-analytical approach was employed, combining library research and netnography, utilizing scholarly sources and observing public responses on social media. Findings indicate that while the policy enhances bureaucratic efficiency, it triggers public resistance due to perceived threats to the sanctity of the hajj ritual. The study highlights religious moderation as a framework to balance administrative professionalism with respect for sacred values, emphasizing indicators such as national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation of local culture. In conclusion, public policies that are sensitive to religious contexts and accompanied by transparent communication can enhance social legitimacy while maintaining bureaucratic efficiency in hajj management.

Abstract

This reseach aims to analyze the principal’s leadership strategies in developing an innovative tahfidz specialization program at SMP Muhammadiyah Pekajangan and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the principal applies a transformational leadership model characterized by a clear and future-oriented vision, encouragement of innovation, and active involvement of teachers and educational staff in program development. This leadership strategy contributes significantly to the sustainability and quality improvement of the tahfidz specialization program. Supporting factors include transformational leadership model, competent tahfidz teachers, adequate facilities, and parental support, while limited instructional time and variations in students’ Qur’anic proficiency remain key challenges. This study contributes theoretically to the discourse on principal leadership in Islamic educational institutions, particularly in strengthening transformational leadership through innovative flagship programs.

Abstract

Mecca has transformed into a cosmopolitan city, sparking a debate between the preservation of sacred values and the logic of global capitalism. The purpose of this study is to analyze the commercialization process of cafes around the Masjidil Haram and its impact on the sanctity of worship spaces. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with 22 informants, using descriptive-analytical qualitative methods. The results show that the presence of cafes is a response to Saudi Vision 2030, transforming the area around the mosque into a hybrid space that combines worship and lifestyle. Theologically, the sanctity of the core of the Grand Mosque (al-sawabit) remains firmly intact, but the atmosphere in the outer zone (al-mutaghayyirat) has undergone a shift in meaning due to the normalization of the culture of “hanging out” and consumptive behavior. Cafes serve as transitional spaces that bridge physical needs with rituals, but they have the potential to distract from solemnity. The implications of this research emphasize the need for strict spatial and zoning policies to balance the comfort of modern facilities with spiritual integrity, ensuring that market dominance does not erode the essence of worship in the Holy Land. This study contributes to the study of the sociology of religion and sacred cities by conceptualizing cafes around the Grand Mosque as hybrid transitional spaces, sharpening our understanding of the sacred-profane relationship in the dimension of religious space.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of YouTube Podcast–based learning on students’ learning interest and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SMK Kesehatan Imelda Medan. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: an experimental group that received IRE instruction using YouTube Podcast media and a control group that was taught using conventional presentation media. Data were collected through a learning interest questionnaire and an IRE achievement test, and analyzed using prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) followed by hypothesis testing with t-tests. The results indicate that YouTube Podcast–based learning has a positive and significant effect on students’ learning interest and learning outcomes compared to conventional learning. Students in the experimental group demonstrated higher engagement and better academic achievement. These findings suggest that integrating YouTube Podcasts into IRE learning can create a more engaging, contextual, and learner-centered learning experience that aligns with the characteristics of students in the digital era. Therefore, YouTube Podcasts are recommended as an innovative digital learning medium to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Islamic Religious Education.
