Abstract

This research aims at finding out the impact of the change of wheel-tread profile from conical profile of 1:40 to worn profile of ORE S 1002 against the wheel wear rate of the cars. To find out the impact of the change of the wheel-tread profile on the ride quality, ride index is measured at the initial stage of the test. The result shows that the ride index value – horizontal as well as vertical – of the test car is better than that of the reference cars. The wheel wear rate of the test car with worn profile is much lower than that of the reference cars. The lifetime of the reference cars’ wheels is around 40 months (± 458,182 km), while the test car with worn profile is estimated to reach 80 months (± 916,364 km).

Abstract

Metoda elemen hingga akan diterapkan pada kasus torsi pada batang berpenampang sembarang. Elemen yang dipakai adalah elemen segitiga. Penyusunan fungsi interpolasi, matriks kekakuan, matriks gaya dan persamaan simultan diterangkan. Kasus yang dipilih adalah torsi pada penampang segiempat, siku, dan poros pejal beralur. Hasilnya dibandingkan dengan hasil analitis.

Abstract

Prototipe mesin uji lelah dengan beban tarik bolak-balik dari jenis mekanis direncanakan dan dibuat. Mekanisme beban awal statis terdiri dari baut, puli-mur, tali dan masa pembeban. Spesimen dipegang dengan pasak-pasak yang dapat dikencangkan. Pegas pembeban dipasang seri dengan spesimen. Beban bolak-balik dibangkitkan dengan engkol atur. Batang-batang penghubung, batang transmisi, bersama-sama engkol atur menyusun mekanisme pembebanan.

Abstract

This study is aimed to produce CAM software run under AutoCAD 2000 or latest version using Visual Basic for Application (VBA) program. Machining processes are carried out using endmill cutter at X-Y plane. Input of this software is 3-D drawings of the model. The output of this software are G-Code of cutting tool path. The software also provides fasilities to approach spline and ellips with connected lines but still considering geometric tolerances of line profile.

Abstract

Pemodelan numerik aliran transien pada instalasi kondensor meliputi pembentukan kaviti, kenaikan head akibat pecahnya kaviti gas, kecepatan rambat gelombang yang bervariasi sebagai fungsi dari kandungan gas dalam cairan. Penggunaan model numerik ini, dapat meramalkan daerah pembentukan kaviti gas dan lonjakan head. Hasil simulasi numerik dari kejadian transien. akibat pompa kehilangan daya sesaat yang menunjukan bahwa kayiti gas terbentuk tidak hanya pada daerah yang paling tinggi dari instalasi pendingin kondensor Pusat Pembangkit Energi.

Abstract

Actually, all rotating equipments which connected one to each other undergo a change in position during start-up (off-line) and this condition will affect the alignment of the shafts while running. The off-line to running movement characteristics of the vast majority of rotating machinery in industries have never been measured. It is very important to know how much movement occurred before concluding that it is insignificant and can be ignored. This paper will show the characteristics of both cold and hot misalignment. The purpose of this work is to analyze the influence of temperature to misalignment of rotating equipments that has been mentioned in some references but never been investigated. The objective of this work is to find out the characteristics of hot misalignment and to compensate for Off-Line to Running (OL2R) machinery movement. The results of the experiments and analysis show that the misalignment condition changes during operation and it strongly influences on the vibration level of the rotating machinery. In this case, the smaller the misalignment value, the smaller vibration level of the rotating machinery.

Abstract

Rekayasa terowongan sering dihadapkan pada berbagai kendala. Salah satu kendala yang dikaji tulisan ini adalah adanya batuan panas pada suatu bagian tertentu dari terowongan yang akan digali. Kondisi ini tidak munguntungkan dari sisi teknik pengerjaannya mengingat kesulitan para pekerja. Salah satu solusi agar pekerjaan penggalian terowongan dapat dilakukan adalah dengan mendinginkan bagian batuan yang panas tersebut.Di dalam makalah ini akan dibahas teknik pendinginan yang akan digunakan dan estimasi beban di dalam terowongan agar proses penggalian dapat berjalan dengan lancar dan ekonomis. perhitungan beban pendinginan dengan cara numerik juga akan dibahas dalam makalah ini. Fenomenadan dan karakteristik fisik seperti sifat konduktifitas tanah dan batuan, kehomogenan sifat batuan panas dan sumber panas dari batuan panas perlu di pelajari lebih lanjut sehingga penyederhanaan berbagai parameter dalam perhitungan dan estimasi beban diharapkan tidak menyimpang jauh dari beban pendinginan sebenarnya yang terjadi di lapangan.

Abstract

Trimethylolethane (TME) trihydrate slurry is a proper phase-change material for latent heat transportation in cooling systems since it has excellence heat transfer performance and high thermal capacity. Additives, oleyl bishydroxyethyl methyl ammonium chloride (as surfactant) and sodium salicylate (as counter-ion), were used as drag-reducer substance. These additives not only induce drag reduction in TME slurry, but also control particle growth and agglomeration. In this study, energy saving estimation of drag-reducing TME slurry application in district cooling system is invesitgated. It is found that drag-reducing TME slurry gives remarkable pumping power suppresion in the district cooling system. To maintain high performance of heat exchangers, heat transfer enhancement technique may be needed in those exchangers.

Abstract

Standard altimeter, i.e. static tube, does not work accurate enough for vehicle flying several meters from the ground. One alternative for measuring altitude in this case is using ultrasonic range-meter. This idea is brought further by using two range-meters to measure pitch attitude. Laboratory experiments were conducted to study this idea statically by constructing them in an inclined moving bar and dynamically by arranging them in a Pitch Attitude Hold control system.

Abstract

The retrofit and conversion of a R22 chiller to R290 was done on an AC chiller Carrier Type 30-GB-070-910. The retrofit of chiller was mainly the implementation of safety features and conversion to HC refrigerant. A series of measurements to evaluate its performance has been carried out on the same chiller for both eases i.e. before and after conversion, while it was in use. The resulting data analysis revealed that the chiller performed better with HC refrigerant compare to its previous condition. Retrofitting procedure, refrigerant conversion, test procedure and data analyses are discussed in this paper.
