Abstract

Globalization era characterized by rapid development of technology allows public to communicate easily. A company should be able to follow developments and the market demands because the movement of information and communication, internal or external knowledge and public awareness are increasing. Positive image that is built needs to be maintained and cared for, since it is closely related to the company's reputation. Once public reliance faded as a negative reputation, it will be difficult to restore the trust back.Reputation that has been done needs to be informed by the Public Relations through the media. Company media relations can enhance corporate publicity before the stakeholders. Installing confidence and building a positive reputation are ways to obtain a positive image. The success of Public Relations in getting publicity can be obtained from a harmonious relationship with the media.

Abstract

Living in a globalized world where information dominates every a pect of life, our access to social reality seems to be in a mediated by media. Whether it is realized or not, media constructs our perceptions and rea tions toward the reality through representations it projects. Out of so many things mediated by the media, representation of certain identities is one example of how media constructs our perception. Through the narration and narrative it creates and narrates, media constructs and represents certain perceptions towards the objects and subjects of representations. From this context, we can argue that media holds ‘a regime of truth’ or an apparatus of institutions which hold power over access to knowledge, access to reality. However, the uprising of internet as the new media gives a new construction and configurations towards the mediations and modes of representations.Applying theories on the new media proposed by Mark Poster and Katherine Hayles, the research is focused and contextualized toward the analysis of Twitter as one of social media in the internet environment. The analysis is directed toward how certain identities are being represented and how the representation is reacted. Contextualizing to twitter user in Indonesia, I take the representation of two opposing Islamic group: Islamic Defender Front (FPI) and Liberal Islam Network (JIL) as my analysis. The research shows that 1) the representation and reaction toward those two groups in Twitter is constructed through user anonymity and parody, image disappropriation and caricatures, and hash tags. 2) These modes of representations cannot be separated from the existing stereotypes of those groups. 3) The old media’s role in constructing the representation is by giving certain basic assumptions about those groups.

Abstract

During New Order Regime (Orba) in Indonesia, Pancasila was conceptualized and internalized as the state and national ideology. However, the regime turned it into a state control ideology, legitimizing repressive act conducted by the state. Nowadays, in the period of post new order regime, the calls to return to the reconceptualization and reinternalization of Pancasila seem to be very immanent. At least, that is what can be inferred and interpreted from the speech given by four national leaders during the commemoration of the birth of Pancasila in 1 June 2011. This essay tries to analyze how the ideas of reconceptualization of Pancasila as state ideology are conferred in the speech. By relating the speech to certain discursive formations surrounding Pancasila and recent cultural phenomenon and practices in Indonesian public sphere, the essay tries to contest the validity of such conceptualizations. The result shows that Pancasila as state ideology seems to be irrelevant and obscured in the cultural practices and activities of the public. It shows that Pancasila resides at the heart of the political elites, but not inside the everyday life

Abstract

This paper discusses English-poetry translation, Heusca by John Conford into Indonesian translated by Chairil Anwar. The purpose of this study is to determine how the translator considers aesthetic and expressive values from the source language and translate them into target language. Aesthetic values are the means of delivery thought through the use of poetic language such as diction or word choice, metaphor, imageri, and others figurative language. Meanwhile, the expressive values are the means of delivery thoughts through the author's mind or emotions such as structure, rhyme, and pronunciation. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive analysis of the meaning. The results of analysis show that in terms of meaning, aesthetic values, and structures, Heusca is the result of a semantic translation and faithful to source language. Translator managed to retain the meaning of source language. In other word, the translation can meet the requirements of fidelity. In terms of expressive values in particular aspects of meter and rhyme are not so faithful to source language because the source language and the target language have some differences. Basically, this is acceptable that the Indonesian language as target language has a very big difference in terms of pronunciation with English as the source language. As a result, meter and rhyme of target language may not be forced into the source language without damaging the naturalness of meaning for target language readers. It can be said that the translation can meet the transparency criteria because source language appeared in poetry comes naturally to native speakers of English.
