Abstract

This study explores the application of Islamic economic principles in the use of derivative instruments within the development of Islamic finance in Indonesia. Derivatives play a key role in managing financial risks, yet their utilization must align with sharia principles, which prohibit elements such as gharar (uncertainty), maisir (gambling), and riba (usury). The research identifies several major challenges, including regulatory constraints, low levels of Islamic financial literacy, and insufficient market infrastructure. Using a literature review approach, the study concludes that despite these obstacles, strengthening regulatory frameworks, encouraging product innovation, and improving financial literacy can support the optimal use of sharia-compliant derivatives. Therefore, collaboration among regulators, academics, and industry practitioners is essential to foster the development of derivative instruments that adhere to Islamic principles and contribute to the stability of the Islamic financial system in Indonesia.

Abstract

The modern coffee industry in Indonesia has grown rapidly with the emergence of popular brands such as Kopi Kenangan, Janji Jiwa, and Fore Coffee. These brands operate in a monopolistic competition market structure, characterized by many sellers offering similar but differentiated products. This study aims to analyze the market structure, differentiation strategies, and the nature of competition among leading coffee brands, as well as to examine their alignment with Islamic economic principles, such as fairness, transparency, and the prohibition of unhealthy competition. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method by collecting secondary data and conducting limited interviews with consumers and business actors. The results indicate that while the competition is generally fair, aggressive promotional strategies and market dominance by larger brands may create imbalances that warrant further ethical evaluation from an Islamic economic perspective.

Abstract

This study explores the factors influencing purchase intention for halal products in Tana Toraja, focusing on Islamic attributes, scepticism, and halal awareness. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) analysis method was used to test the relationship between variables. The results show that Islamic attributes contribute positively to consumer scepticism, while scepticism does not significantly affect purchase intention. Halal awareness, on the other hand, has a favorable impact on customer attitudes, which in turn influences halal product purchasing intentions. Consumer attitudes were also shown to be an important mediator in the link between halal awareness and purchase intent. The consequence is that raising consumer knowledge and comprehension of halal goods will reinforce positive consumer attitudes, boost halal food purchase intentions, and promote the expansion of the halal business in Tana Toraja, Indonesia.
