Abstract

Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common response experienced by individuals who are about to undergo surgical procedures. Spinal anesthesia can trigger anxiety, particularly due to the pain caused by the insertion of the spinal needle in the back, which often leads to patient apprehension toward the procedure. Previous studies have not combined guided imagery therapy with spiritual guidance. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the combination of guided imagery therapy and spiritual guidance in reducing preoperative anxiety among patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at IHC Lavalette Hospital. This research employed a quasi-experimental two-group pre-test post-test design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving 72 respondents divided into two groups: an intervention group and a control group. Anxiety levels before and after the intervention were measured using The Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS). The results showed that the intervention group's anxiety level was moderate before the combined therapy and decreased to mild afterward. In contrast, the control group maintained a moderate level of anxiety both before and after the test. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (< Alpha = 0.05) in the intervention group and 1.000 (> Alpha = 0.05) in the control group. These findings indicate that the combination of guided imagery therapy and spiritual guidance is effective in reducing preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at IHC Lavalette Hospital. Future research is encouraged to explore other experimental methods with larger sample sizes focusing on relaxation therapies to reduce anxiety in surgical patients.

Abstract

Objective: Pain is one of the main complaints experienced by mothers after undergoing a sectio caesarean. If not properly managed, pain can lead to delayed recovery and increased risk of complications. Therefore, non-pharmacological pain management is necessary, such as foot massage therapy using jasmine oil extracted from jasmine flowers (Jasminum sambac and Jasminum officinale) through steam distillation, which is considered a safe and effective alternative. Methods: This technique has not been widely applied. This study aimed to determine the effect of foot massage therapy using jasmine oil on pain levels in post-sectio caesarea mothers at RSUD Ngudi Waluyo Wlingi. The research design used was a quasi -experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 60 respondents divided into two groups, selected using purposive sampling according to inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out using a pain scale observation sheet. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, Results: The results showed that in the intervention group during the first session, the average pain level decreased from a pretest score of 5.80 to a posttest score of 4.70. In the second session, the pain level decreased from 4.00 to 2.70. The average pain score in post-sectio caesarea mothers decreased from 5.80 to 4.70 (first session) and from 4.00 to 2.70 (second session), with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusion: The Wilcoxon test results indicated a significant effect on pain levels before and after the foot massage using jasmine oil. Therefore, nurses can consider this therapy as a non-pharmacological method to reduce pain in post-sectio caesarea mothers.

Abstract

Objective: Preoperative anxiety can occur in patients with fractures who are about to undergo surgery. If this anxiety is not addressed, it can affect surgical outcomes, including prolonged healing time and suboptimal results. Anxiety can be reduced through non-pharmacological techniques, one of which is the combination of lavender aromatherapy and guided imagery music (GIM). However, this technique is still not widely implemented in hospital wards. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the combination of lavender aromatherapy and guided imagery music on the anxiety levels of preoperative fracture patients. Methods: The study design used is a quasi-experiment with a pre-test post-test control group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total of 64 respondents. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Man-Whitney test. Results: The results of the study showed a change in anxiety levels before and after the administration of the combination therapy. In the treatment group, the average anxiety score before therapy was 16.19, and after therapy, the anxiety level decreased to a mild level with an average of 10.47, resulting in a difference of 5.72. Meanwhile, in the control group, the average anxiety score before therapy was 16.53, and after therapy, it was 16.28, with a difference of only 0.25. The statistical test results showed a significant effect on anxiety levels before and after the administration of the combination of lavender aromatherapy and guided imagery music, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.005. Conclusion: The role of nurses is expected to include administering this combination therapy as a complementary therapy to help manage preoperative anxiety in fracture patients.

Abstract

Objective: Blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients are often difficult to control, which can lead to complications such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, and coronary heart disease (CHD). Therefore, aside from the five pillars of diabetes mellitus management, complementary therapy such as consuming okra simplisia infusion and listening to Murottal Al-Qur’an therapy may provide additional benefits. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 61 diabetes mellitus patients, selected from a population of 126 Chronic Diseases Management Program (Prolanis) members at Kedungpring Community Health Center, using purposive sampling. The independent variable was the combination of okra simplisia consumption and Murottal Al-Qur'an therapy, while the dependent variable was blood glucose levels. Measurements were conducted before and after the intervention using a glucose meter, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The results indicate that the mean blood glucose level decreased from 234 mg/dL before the intervention to 184 mg/dL after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in blood glucose levels before and after the intervention (p=0.000, P<0.05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that okra functions as a biological agent affecting biochemical mechanisms in the body, while Murottal Al-Qur’an serves as a psychological agent helping regulate blood glucose levels.
