Abstract

Kimcil Kepolen song is a dangdut hiphop and being popular song nowadays. This song is created by NDX a.k.a Familia that inspires people for his long journey as a labor towards a great Indonesian musician that has been loved by widely society. This lyric represents women image from NDX perspective before his successful being a great musician. The study employs qualitative method to look at Kimcil Kepolen lyric as a language fact which is able to be examined by semantic and cognitive linguistics perspective. The results shows us that Kimcil Kepolen lyric represents materialistic women are being hard to get engage and to make a serious relationship for poor men. The facts explain that materialistic women are easily breaking men’s heart and cheating to a man who has a stabble financial support.

Abstract

Learning Arabic qowaid student Syariah Banking Second semester Maarif Institute of Islamic NU Metro Lampung still not maximized. Students have difficulties to understand Arabic qowaid material. Student learning motivation is also low. This is what makes researchers want to do research in that class. Problems to be expressed in this research are: (1) How is the application of Arabic qowaid learning with cooperative model of jigsaw method in class A, second semester of Syariah Banking, (2) How to improve learning qowaid after getting learning with cooperative learning model of jigsaw method, (3) What are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing cooperative Arabic qawaid in class A with jigsaw method. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle is done in a cycle consisting of four stages: planning, execution, observation and reflection. The results of this study indicate an increase from cycle I of cycle II. The average class cycle I is 60.83 and the average of cycle II is 71. The students also show behavior change in the positive direction. Student activity is increasing. The improvement of test result is also followed by behavioral and motivational change based on research which has been done by the researcher that through cooperative learning with jigsaw method, Arabic qowaid learning becomes more fun and easier for students in learning qowaid. Suggestions that can be given is a lecturer of Arabic language should be more creative in using techniques and learning methods that involve the active role of student learning so that the learning process to get the maximum value. One alternative of learning Arabic qowaid is by using cooperative learning jigsaw model.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the sign meaning of the conversations displayed in the dictionary. So that it need the interpretation of meaning holistically as a sign. Furtheromre to find out the form and the basic religiouse teaching of Islam Archipelago on three indonesia-English-Arabic Language. The researchers used Sanders Peirce Theory to analyze the signs which contained in the conversations presented by the Three Language Santri Dictionary. So that it will be found the meaning of the values ​​presented each conversation is studied. Peirce viewed the sign as a triadic structure. The three dimensions that build the structure are; Representament, object, and interpretant. Thus the researchers tried to be as detailed and demanding as possible to examine every sign of these diomension. The Researchers sort out the conversations that contain the Islamic Archipelago concept and analyze the sign intensively and gradually in each conversation so that found the general meaning or argument major. On the other hand the researchers also use the theory of Abdurrahman Wahid’s Islamic Indigenousization to analyze the values ​​of Islamic Archipelago. The result showed that this study directed at: (1) the call to implement amar maruf nahi munkar lovingly and nihilisme physical and mental violence, (2) the legality of birthday celebration, especially the memorial of the Prophets mawlid, (3) revitalization of ideology of nationalism; Love of the homeland, (4) the legality of the idea of ​​gender equality in Indonesia, and (5) the legality of hanging a photo on the wall of the house. Abstract

The purpose of the study is to improve the students writing ability for paragraph writing class. The subjects of the study were 37 students of English Education Study Program who joined the paragraph writing class. The design of the study was Classroom Action Research with two cycles. Cycle 1 consisted of three meetings, and cycle 2 consisted of two meetings. The types of explicit planning used in the action research were word listing and word mapping with phrases and sentence for detail.  The instruments used were direct writing test, observation, and  documentation of students’ reflective essay. To score the students’ writing, two raters  were asked to rate the composition by using Jacobs ESL Composition profile scoring rubric. The finding shows that the use of explicit planning was able to improve the students’ paragraph writing performance, indicated with the achievement of the criteria of success. The students’ mean improved from cycle 1 (74.62)  to cycle2 (76.78). Although explicit planning instruction was able to help the students to write better, data from their self-reflection essay showed that many of the students preferred to use free writing instead of explicit planning instruction.

Abstract

It is believed that age become the important factor  to language acquisition. Learners with the age under the puberty or in the critical period can learn the language faster than adult. However, this case is not completely true. I have an opinion that learning the language in the younger age does not guarantee that they can succeed to be language learners. Many facts and researches found that  the older is better in learning the language. This could be another factor affecting  the language acquisition. Motivation is the most important key to acquire the language. It does not matter whether they learn in younger age or in older age. As long as they have motivation to learn, they will be successfull in acquiring the language. Therefore, English teachers have to create an effective and innovative in teaching and learning process in order to enhance the learners’ motivation.

Abstract

In response to the fact that college students complain on their unsuccessful story of their EFL learning experience such as the limited number of vocabulary, English Grammar confusion, low competence of English language skills, this article explores an alternative effective way of helping them to improve their English through Text-Based Learning (TBL) model. This article is then intended to narrate the implementation of TBL to teach English for college students of non English Department of Post Graduate Program of State Islamic Institute of Tulungagung, Indonesia. The result of implementing this teaching model proves to be able to not only stimulate joyful learning atmosphere but to attract the students’ active participation during the EFL instructional process as well. This further brings about their better practical understanding on English language skills as their expectation. Therefore, for English lecturers, this model is pedagogically good to be implemented in their English instructional practices.

Abstract

Some television shows have presented comedy shows as one of the favorite shows. One kind of the popular comedy show is stand-up comedy. Stand-up comedy is spontaneous oral humor of which topic and content have been prepared before the performance. There are not many studies investigating the stand-up comedy from the perspective of the popular culture. This article is trying to investigate and analyze the Indonesian stand-up comedies which are performed in television. The finding shows that the modern and popular cultural aspects have added to the performance of the stand-up comedy so that more-more spectators are interested to enjoy the stand-comedy show in television.

Abstract

Maxim of Politeness is an interesting subject to be discussed, since politeness has been criticized from our childhood. We are obliques to be polite to anyone either in speaking or in acting. Somehow we are manage to show politeness in our spoken expression though our intention might be not so polite. For example we must appriciate others opinion although we feel objection toward the opinion. In this article the analysis of politeness is based on maxim proposes by Leech. He proposed six types of politeness maxim. The discussion shows that the main character (Kristen and Kami) use all types of maxim in their conversation. Abstract

Speaking anxieties become a big problem for the students in learning english nowadays. This paper discusses about students strategies in overcoming speaking anxieties in front of the class and its causing factors. Based on the finding, it is found that there are some factors caused students speaking anxietiesin the class namely students were afraid in making mistakes, they have little confidence in speaking english, they often lose their ideas when speaking in front of the class, they also afraid speaking spontaneously in the class. Meanwhile, it is also found that the students applied some strategies in overcoming speaking anxieties in the class namely the students try to be rilexs during speaking class, make a notes, consider there is no audience seeing his/her performance, practice in front of the mirrorr, practice with their classmate.
