Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the experience of a language learner in an Indonesian student exchange program in Japan aimed to enable students to learn the language and culture directly in their home country. This experience was captured through a descriptive case study conducted to obtain a clear picture of what happened and find out what aspects could cause language concussion; and how the influence of language shock on the social acculturation of language learners. Data were collected through observation and interviews. The results showed that the language shock experienced by the Research Subjects in the target language environment included linguistic aspects at the phonological and morphological levels. Sociolinguistic aspects at the level of the use of a variety of respect. Anxiety also occurs due to the loss of signs and symbols of social relationships commonly known by the Research Subjects. Therefore, cultural differences between Indonesia and Japan should be anticipated so as not to cause difficulties in carrying out social acculturation.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the use of directive speech acts of multicultural students studying in Malang City in the context of politeness. Qualitative descriptive is the method used in this study. Five tribes are the subject of this research, namely Java, Sumba, Flores, Dayak, and Madura. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The data obtained were analyzed based on how they used directive demand speech act in different situations in the realm of family, friendship, and school and how they minimized the FTA that might occur when facing different speech partners. The results of this study indicate that from the four aspects that become the parameters of this study, multicultural students in using directive speech acts have the following pattern. In the aspect of direct/indirect speech acts, in three different domains, all multicultural students use direct speech acts and the honorific aspect. The use of hedge aspects is more widely used in the campus domain. Meanwhile, in the aspect of speech level, only Javanese and Madurese students use it.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe and classify absolute antonyms in Javanese. This research is a descriptive qualitative type. The data are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences containing absolute antonyms taken from Javanese textbooks and textbooks in elementary and high schools. Data collection techniques with documentation, listening, and record. The data were analyzed using the "agih" method with the substitution technique and the reflexive-introspective method. The results show that the meaning of contrast does not mean the known contrast, which has been taught in schools so far. Based on the meanings explained by experts, the meaning of antonyms is more complex, and the types of antonyms also vary. In absolute antonyms, several properties must be fulfilled, A and B are said to be absolute antonyms if A is negated, the meaning is the same as B, and vice versa if B is negated, the meaning is the same as A. This pattern can be used as a reference for teachers to teach contrasting meaning material, especially in absolute antonyms.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the form of teacher directive speech acts in learning Indonesian at SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The research data used is the teacher's speech in learning Indonesian at SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang. The data source is Mrs. Indra Dewi as an Indonesian teacher at SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang. The data collection technique used the free-of-conversation listening technique. Data analysis techniques are listening, understanding, organizing, categorizing, connecting between categories, and interpreting data based on the context. The results of this study contained five forms of directive speech acts, namely requesting speech, wishing speech, commanding speech, welcome speech, and asking speech. The utterance asks to be reviewed from the words "please" and "come on." Speeches of hope are viewed from the word "hope" or "hope." Speech orders are reviewed from the words "try" and "quick." Speech please viewed from the word "please." Asking utterances are viewed from the words "what," "who," and "how."

Abstract

This study aimed to describe an effort to make Pancasila ideology and Ajeg Bali principle a reality made by Bali Post and opinion contents published in Bali Post daily newspaper. This study was qualitative descriptive research. The data source was opinion articles taken from Bali Post daily newspaper from January to March 2021. The focus of this study was the effort in making Pancasila ideology and Ajeg Bali principle a reality as represented in opinion articles and opinion contents that were published. The data were collected by using a document recording method. The data were analyzed with the inductive method. The results of the study are as follows. The effort to make Pancasila and Ajeg Bali principle become a reality in the publication of opinion articles in Bali Post daily newspaper was made by selecting writers opinions that dealt with various fields of development that were directed toward Indonesia’s national development since they were based on Pancasila ideology and those that were directed toward local development of Bali in particular since the development was based on Ajeg Bali principle. The number of publications that had the national characteristic was 27 (38.57%), and that of those that had the local characteristic was 43 (61.43%) due to the existence of Bali Post daily newspaper as local mass media committed to Ajeg Bali. The selection of the writers’ opinions was based on the qualifications of the opinion writers in their fields., that is, from established academicians and from experienced people in the fields they wrote in. The opinion writers come to form Bali and outside Bali. The fields of the ideas of opinions that were published in Bali Post daily newspaper are consecutive as follows: education 18 (25.71%), cultural art/ custom 15 (21.42%), economics 14 (20%), health 5 (7.14%), tourism 4 (5.71%), agriculture 4 (5.71%), law 4 (5.71%), religion 3 (4.26%), and resources 3 (4.28%). The publications or opinions in Bali Post daily newspaper are consistent with the ideology that it upholds, that is, Pancasila and Ajeg Bali principles. The opinion articles are suitable for use as learning material in opinion writing and analyzing text elements of authentic and contextual opinion texts.

Abstract

Minangkabau language is one of the regional languages ​​in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the sounds, phonemes and their distributions in Minangkabau language of Sikucur isolect. The observation and interview methods were used to obtain data. During the interview, the results of the interview were recorded and phonetic transcription was made based on IPA chart. Furthermore, the method used to analyze the data was a phonetic articulator matching method. The data that had been collected was classified according to sound pairs that were phonetically similar. The results showed that there were 30 phonemes found. There were five vowels: /i/, /e/. /a/, /u/, and /o/. Each vowel had an allophone, namely [i~ɪ], [e~ɛ], [a~ʌ], [u~ʊ], dan [o~ɔ]. There were seven diphthongs: /aw/, /ay/, /uy/, /ua/ with allophones [ua~ue], /ia/ with allophones [ia~ie], /oy/, and /ea/. Finally, there were eighteen consonants: /p/, /b/, /m/, /t/, /d/, /n/, /l/, /ʀ/, /s/, /c/, /j/ , /ɲ/, /k/, /g/, /ŋ/, /h/, /w/, and /y/. The sound [ʔ] was the realization of /k/ when it was at the end of the closing syllable. Furthermore, [ʀ] and [r] were free variations and did not differentiate in meaning.

Abstract

Implementation of online learning with the application of the invention model increases perceptions between teachers and students. This study aims to determine the perceptions of teachers and students about the implementation of the invention model online in writing script learning. The research method used is a qualitative method using a case study approach. The population in this study were Indonesian language subject teachers and ten-grade students. The sample was taken using the purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques are carried out by filling out a questionnaire through the Google form and interviews with teachers and students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the orientation of Nias cultural values ​​in the lyrics of the maena at the falöwa traditional ceremony in Gunungsitoli. The research was conducted using a qualitative method with an anthropolinguistic approach. The data in this study is a snippet of the lyrics of the maena at the traditional falöwa (wedding) ceremony, either spoken orally or a collection of written lyrics. Primary data sources are the results of interviews with informants and recordings of playing. The secondary data source is the maena lyric text in the book "Maena Nias – Means of Delivering Messages and Life Stories of the Nias Society," published by the Nias Heritage Museum, 2018. Data were collected using observation and interview methods. The observation method is carried out using the tapping and nonparticipation and the recording techniques as further techniques. The interview method uses direct interview techniques. Then, the data were analyzed in stages: (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) making conclusions/verification. In the analysis process, the researcher also validated the data by applying data triangulation. The triangulation used in this study is source triangulation. The study results concluded that, first, the society of Nias interprets the nature of life as something that needs to be fought for. Second, the society of Nias views that the nature of the work can increase the position and honor of humans in their environment. Third, Nias society view that humans are influenced by space and time. Fourth, Nias society views the importance of harmonious relations between humans and their natural surroundings. Fifth, Nias society upholds human relations with each other.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of heroic traits shown by the character Bujang in Tere Liye's novel Pulang. The method used in analyzing the data is qualitative method because the data collected and analyzed are in the form of narratives and dialogues in the text related to the heroic traits possessed by Bujang as the main character in the novel. Furthermore, this study uses descriptive techniques to define the heroic traits found in Bujang character. From the results of the analysis, it was found that eight heroic traits possessed by Bujang in the novel Pulang. The traits include caring, charismatic, inspiring, reliable, resilient, selfless, smart, and strong. This finding shows that heroic traits can be found in characters who are involved in the world of crime and also in literary works that use the setting and themes of the criminal world. By having these eight heroic traits, Bujang is a representation of a hero even though he is a character who has a role in the criminal world he lives in the novel.

Abstract

This research purposed to produce a Moodle module based ecoliteracy for 9th grade. This study used five methods, (1) preliminary analysis, (2) product development, (3) expert validation and revision, (4) small-scale field trials and revision, and (5) large scale product trial. This research produces a Moodle module with ecoliteracy in its content and presentation which has been validated by material, media, and language expert with certain qualifications. This study result is suitable product that get validation score 87.5% for material, 92.5% for media, and 70.5% for language. The result from small field trials is 75%, and 87.5% for large field trials, the product declared as suitable to use. This study ecoliteracy in the module content is contained in its themes, learning objectivities, materials, exercise, and cases that students must responses. Ecoliteracy in the module presentation is include in text, images, audios, and videos.
