Abstract

The nutritional status of under-five children in Indonesia remains low, including in North Maluku province. Based on the results of the 2021 SSGI, the prevalence of stunting among under-five children in this province is 27.5%. This figure is higher than the national prevalence of 24.4%. North Maluku has abundant potential for tuna fish that can be utilized in the development of local food that supports nutritional interventions for children. The recent study reported that as many as 86.7% of children aged 12 – 24 months consumed processed foods like nuggets, sausages, and meatballs. Most consumers (98.67%) also showed a high interest in consuming nuggets that contain higher protein and mineral content. The addition of moringa leaf vegetables and carrots to nuggets will increase the nutritional content of nuggets which can increase nutritional intake for children. This study was an experimental study that aimed to determine the shelf life of tuna fish nuggets substituted with moringa leaves and carrots using the Extended Storage Studies (SES) method. SES method was used to determine the shelf life of tuna fish nuggets substituted with moringa leaves and carrots by looking at the organoleptic quality which includes aroma, color and texture. Observations were made in February-March 2021 for 60 days at the Laboratory of Food Science, Poltekkes Ternate. Changes in quality began to occur on the 35th day of observation, namely the texture of the nuggets began to not be crunchy. While the observation of color and aroma did not change until the 60th day of observation. In conclusion, the shelf life of tuna fish nuggets substituted with Moringa leaves and carrots is up to 30 days.

Abstract

The high prevalence of hypertension still encourages research to find blood pressure-lowering drugs, especially those derived from natural ingredients. One of the plants that have been reported to have the potential to reduce blood pressure is the bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). Observations of the antihypertensive activity of this plant have been carried out, both from the use of leaves and fruit. However, several existing studies have shown that the dose of using the leaves and fruit of bilimbi still varies with varying levels of effectiveness, so the effective dose of this plant utilization remains unknown. This study aims to see the efficacy of bilimbi in lowering blood pressure and determine the most effective dose for its use. The literature selection was carried out by searching the Google Scholar database, the Garba Rujukan Digital portal (Garuda), ScienceDirect, Pubmed, and Directory Open Access Journals (DOAJ) using predetermined keywords. Then, the identification and screening of articles based on duplication and inclusion criteria were carried out. The study results showed that the fruit had higher effectiveness in lowering blood pressure than the leaves. This literature study concluded that consuming 100 ml of bilimbi fruit juice regularly for 14 days may lower the blood pressure up to 34 mmHg.

Abstract

Breastfeeding in one of the best ways to reduce infant mortality. However, UNICEF data in 2019 recorded that only 43% of newborns started breastfeeding in the first hour and 41% received exclusively breastfed. The causes of initiation and continuation of breastfeeding are closely related to the age of the mother. Adolescent mothers were found to not continue exclusive breastfeeding. This article aims to explore the experience of exclusive breastfeeding for adolescent mothers. The method used is a literature study. Research questions were identified using the PEOS (Population, Exposure, Outcome, Study Design) framework. The journals used in the literature review were obtained through the Pubmed, Science Direct and Google Scholar databases from 2010-2020. The keywords used according to MESH (Medical Subject Heading) are "experience", "exclusive breastfeeding", and "adolescent mothers", and selected full text. The results of the review of 6 articles include: mother’ decisions to breastfeed such as, breastfeeding is a natural, easy, and fun way, a supportive environment, breastfeeding can improve baby’s health, provide benefits for mothers, save costs. The obstacles faced by adolescent mother include, lack of knowledge and skills, uncontrollable and unplesant physical experiences, inadequate response to health services, lack of support for breastfeeding at work/school, and difficulty breastfeeding in public places. So, adolescent mothers need breastfeeding support such as information support, instrumental support, emotional support, and apraisal support.

Abstract

Early marriage is a form of violence and violations of children's rights, this is because the practice of early marriage occurs at the age of <18 years which triggers violence such as sexual violence. Early marriage occurs in many developing countries such as Africa, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Nepal and Indonesia. This study aims to examine the previous literature to collect data on “The Impact of Early Marriage on Women from Health and Social Aspects in Developing Countries”. This study employed a scoping review method with the Arskey and O'Malley framework. A systematic review was carried out using online databases, namely PubMed, Willey, ProQuest, and using Gray Literature with predetermined keywords, then the articles were filtered based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were 25 articles that met the criteria. This study identified that early marriage had a serious impact on women's health and social life such as the occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases, cervical cancer, preeclampsia and complications during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as mental health disorders such as stress and anxiety. The impact of the social aspects found in the literature review was the existence of gender discrimination, dropping out of school, domestic violence, and low autonomy in decision making. In addition, in the review of the article, it was found that the factors that influence the practice of early marriage experienced by women were education, economy, culture, parents and marriage by accident (MBA). The existence of complications during pregnancy and childbirth is the impact of early marriage that is often experienced by women. In addition, gender discrimination is often felt by women who marry at the age of <18 years in various developing countries.

Abstract

WHO introduced Covid-19 as a global health problem on January 30, 2020, and currently here are more than 6.05 million cases of Covid-19 reported from 188 countries and resulted in 368,000 deaths. One of the efforts recommended by the Indonesian Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of this infection is to limit social contact and practice clean and healthy living. This study develops a communication strategy in education on the prevention and handling of COVID-19 in South Sulawesi. Through a qualitative approach, data collection was carried out through focus group discussions to identify a picture of the community's response in dealing with this pandemic. This study resulted in infographics and guides containing information related to the prevention and handling of COVID-19. In addition, voice messages have been developed about 3M's behavior and the correct use of masks. A communication strategy by considering the local situation in the form of community responses is important when conducting education during a pandemic. This is due to the large amount of information spread in the mass media that is easily accessible by the public. In addition, the ever-changing situation also requires us to be able to continue to innovate in developing health messages that will be disseminated to the public. Messages created can include new information, confirmation or refutation of hoaxes that may develop.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized and identified with hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both, and the presence of impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. IDF data shows the prevalence is increasing from year to year, namely 9.3% (2020) and 10.5% (2021). Treatment of DM was needed a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment by utilizing local foods in the diet. Purple eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the potential plants in Indonesia that is very rich in antioxidants and believed to decrease fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels. The study aimed to determine the effect of purple eggplant flour (TTU) on the weight and fasting blood glucose levels of hyperglycemia rats. This true experimental study design used a pre-post test with a control group design. Thirty-six male Sprague Dawley rats were divided randomly into five groups: KN group (7 rats), KD (8 rats), P1 (7 rats), P2 (7 rats), and P3 (7 rats). The rats used were 10-12 weeks, weighing 207.25±26.76 grams. The hyperglycemia rat model was made by induced NA (230 mg/kg body weight)-STZ (65 mg/kg body weight) intraperitoneally. Intervention in the form of TTU modified feed (standard feed is substituted with TTU according to the dose) was given for 28 days with dose variations of 2.36 grams, 4.71 grams, and 7.07 grams. Body weight and FBG level were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed statistically using One Way Anova test, Bonferroni test, and uji paired t-test. The body weight of DM rats was significantly lower, and FBG levels were significantly higher than normal rats (KN). Orally administration of TTU for 28 days significantly increased body weight (6.59%-19.54%) and reduced levels of FBG (33.04-54.61%). The changes in FBG levels were in line with the increasing doses of intervention. Purple eggplant flour was able to maintain body weight and reduce the levels of FGB hyperglycemia in rats induced by NA-STZ.

Abstract

Scavengers live by collecting garbage, used items that can be recycled. Collecting garbage is one of the jobs that have health and safety risks and problems such as complaints of itchy skin, redness and burning. Scavengers working at the TPA Air Dingin were found not using personal protective equipment (APD) when working. This study aims to determine the factors that cause complaints of skin disorders in scavengers. The cross sectional research design is located at the TPA Air Dingin Padang City in 2021. The population is all scavengers who work at the TPA Air Dingin. The sample is a scavenger selected by the Simple Random method. Sampling (SRS). The number of samples is 91 respondents. data collection through interviews using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using chi aquare statistical test for bivariate analysis and logistic regression for multivariate analysis. The results of the analysis of age, length of work, years of service,’personal hygiene and personal protective equipment’were associated’with complaints of skin disorders’(p value < 0.005). Dominant factors affecting complaints of skin disorders are age and years of service. It is recommended that scavengers use personal protective equipment ( APD) that functions properly to avoid complaints of skin disorders. Supervision and policies from relevant agencies regarding the importance of using personal protective equipment ( APD) for scavengers. In addition, it is necessary to conduct outreach activities to scavengers about the importance of personal hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (APD).

Abstract

Infections acquired by patients while hospitalized for at least 72 hours are called Health Care Associated Infections (HAIs). The purpose of the study was to determine the determinant factors that affect the application of universal precaution to the prevention of infection risk in health services by nurses in the room. The research design used was correlation analytic with the type of case control design and the research technique used total sampling technique. The sample size in this study was 36 respondents. The results of Spearman's statistical test, internal factors namely knowledge, training followed, and length of work obtained p value = 0.003 meaning that there was an influence of internal factors (knowledge, training followed, and length of work) on the application of universal precaution. While external factors, namely facilities and colleagues, the value of p = 0.000 means that there was an influence of external factors (facilities and colleagues) on the application of universal precaution. The determinant factors that affect universal precaution are external factors. It is hoped that hospital managers can fulfill the facilities needed by health workers in implementing universal precautions so that the incidence of nosocomial infections can be suppressed.
