Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. One of the contributing factors is intestinal parasitic infection, such as (buski fluke), particularly in areas with poor sanitation and raw aquatic plant consumption. To compare hemoglobin levels among pregnant women in endemic and non-endemic areas of Fasciolopsis buski. This was a comparative cross-sectional study involving 124 pregnant women, consisting of 62 from endemic and 62 from non-endemic regions. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and hemoglobin measurements using Hemocue®. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test at a 0.05 significance level. The mean hemoglobin level among pregnant women in endemic areas was 10.7 ± 1.1 g/dL, while in non-endemic areas it was 11.6 ± 1.0 g/dL. The t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001). The prevalence of anemia was 61.3% in endemic and 29.0% in non-endemic areas. There is a significant difference in hemoglobin levels between pregnant women living in endemic and non-endemic areas of Fasciolopsis buski. Endemicity of parasitic infection may contribute to higher anemia risk among pregnant women in endemic regions.

Abstract

Hypertension, commonly known as the “silent killer” can induce anxiety in sufferers due to the need for long-term treatment. High levels of anxiety will impact the decline in sleep quality, which disrupts blood pressure stability and increases the risk of hypertension recurrence. This study examines the correlation between anxiety and sleep quality in elderly hypertensive patients at Purwosari Health Center, Surakarta. This research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational design, using the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) questionnaire to assess anxiety and the Sleep Quality Scale (SQS) to measure sleep quality. The study involved 159 respondents within the service area. A significant correlation exists between anxiety and sleep quality among hypertensive patients in the working area Purwosari Health Center, Surakarta City. The correlation test between anxiety and sleep quality yielded a significant value of p = 0.000 (P < 0.01). The Chi-Square analysis reveals a significant link between anxiety and sleep quality (p = 0.001, H₀ rejected, H₁ accepted). Of the 80 respondents with mild anxiety, 54 (67.5%) had good sleep quality; whereas of the 79 respondents with moderate anxiety, 52 (65.8%) experienced poor sleep quality. Conclusion: The heavier the anxiety level, the worse the sleep quality, thus requiring appropriate interventions to reduce anxiety in elderly hypertension patients.

Abstract

Nutritional status and academic stress are suspected to influence adolescent academic achievement; therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and academic achievement and the role of academic stress as a modifying factor among 10th-grade students of SMAN 14 Bandung. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design involved 123 adolescents selected by consecutive sampling from Januari to April 2025. Nutritional status was determined using body mass index-for-age according to the 2020 Indonesian Ministry of Health guidelines, academic achievement was measured by report card average scores, and academic stress was assessed using the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents. Overall, no significant relationship was found between nutritional status and academic achievement (p = 0.859); however, after stratification by stress level, a significant difference appeared in the normal-to-mild stress group (p = 0.038) but not in the very severe stress group (p = 0.427). High academic stress can mask the benefits of good nutritional status on academic performance. Most adolescents were overweight (51.2%). Improving adolescent academic achievement requires a dual approach of balanced nutrition improvement and effective academic stress management through education, counselling, and supportive school and family environments.
