Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. One of the contributing factors is intestinal parasitic infection, such as (buski fluke), particularly in areas with poor sanitation and raw aquatic plant consumption. To compare hemoglobin levels among pregnant women in endemic and non-endemic areas of Fasciolopsis buski. This was a comparative cross-sectional study involving 124 pregnant women, consisting of 62 from endemic and 62 from non-endemic regions. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and hemoglobin measurements using Hemocue®. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test at a 0.05 significance level. The mean hemoglobin level among pregnant women in endemic areas was 10.7 ± 1.1 g/dL, while in non-endemic areas it was 11.6 ± 1.0 g/dL. The t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001). The prevalence of anemia was 61.3% in endemic and 29.0% in non-endemic areas. There is a significant difference in hemoglobin levels between pregnant women living in endemic and non-endemic areas of Fasciolopsis buski. Endemicity of parasitic infection may contribute to higher anemia risk among pregnant women in endemic regions.

Abstract

Hypertension, commonly known as the “silent killer” can induce anxiety in sufferers due to the need for long-term treatment. High levels of anxiety will impact the decline in sleep quality, which disrupts blood pressure stability and increases the risk of hypertension recurrence. This study examines the correlation between anxiety and sleep quality in elderly hypertensive patients at Purwosari Health Center, Surakarta. This research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational design, using the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) questionnaire to assess anxiety and the Sleep Quality Scale (SQS) to measure sleep quality. The study involved 159 respondents within the service area. A significant correlation exists between anxiety and sleep quality among hypertensive patients in the working area Purwosari Health Center, Surakarta City. The correlation test between anxiety and sleep quality yielded a significant value of p = 0.000 (P < 0.01). The Chi-Square analysis reveals a significant link between anxiety and sleep quality (p = 0.001, H₀ rejected, H₁ accepted). Of the 80 respondents with mild anxiety, 54 (67.5%) had good sleep quality; whereas of the 79 respondents with moderate anxiety, 52 (65.8%) experienced poor sleep quality. Conclusion: The heavier the anxiety level, the worse the sleep quality, thus requiring appropriate interventions to reduce anxiety in elderly hypertension patients.

Abstract

Nutritional status and academic stress are suspected to influence adolescent academic achievement; therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and academic achievement and the role of academic stress as a modifying factor among 10th-grade students of SMAN 14 Bandung. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design involved 123 adolescents selected by consecutive sampling from Januari to April 2025. Nutritional status was determined using body mass index-for-age according to the 2020 Indonesian Ministry of Health guidelines, academic achievement was measured by report card average scores, and academic stress was assessed using the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents. Overall, no significant relationship was found between nutritional status and academic achievement (p = 0.859); however, after stratification by stress level, a significant difference appeared in the normal-to-mild stress group (p = 0.038) but not in the very severe stress group (p = 0.427). High academic stress can mask the benefits of good nutritional status on academic performance. Most adolescents were overweight (51.2%). Improving adolescent academic achievement requires a dual approach of balanced nutrition improvement and effective academic stress management through education, counselling, and supportive school and family environments.

Abstract

Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection increases IL-6 production, thereby inducing liver cells to synthesise active phase proteins, such as CRP. Increased levels of Hs-CRP and ESR are often associated with inflammation and acute infection. This study aims to determine the relationship between Hs-CRP and ESR levels as markers of inflammation in TB patients. Data collection was conducted using an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Samples were obtained via simple random sampling, with a sample of 20 tuberculosis patients. Measurement of Hs-CRP levels was carried out using ELISA, while measurement of ESR levels was carried out using Roller 20. Data analysis was carried out using a statistical correlation test to determine the relationship between the two test variables. Based on the measurement data for Hs-CRP and ESR levels, the average Hs-CRP level was 3.32 mg/L, and the average ESR level was 54.55 mm/h in tuberculosis patients. Statistical correlation test shows the relationship between Hs-CRP levels and ESR in tuberculosis patients (p=0.042 with moderate correlation and positive correlation direction (t=0.458). Overall, there is a moderate, positive correlation between Hs-CRP levels and LED, a marker of inflammation, in tuberculosis patients.

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia remains high, particularly during the postpartum period, which accounts for the majority of maternal deaths. Jember Regency is among the regions with the highest MMR in East Java, with many fatalities occurring after mothers are discharged from the hospital. Suboptimal coordination between hospitals and primary health centers, limited clinical data exchange, and delayed early detection of danger signs highlight the need for an integrated information system to support continuous postpartum monitoring. This study aims to identify concepts, models, and empirical findings related to postpartum monitoring information systems through a literature review. Articles were retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect using keyword combinations of “information system,” “monitoring,” and “postpartum,” limited to publications from 2020–2025. The findings show that community-based digital accompaniment models such as SMAP CARE effectively enhance early detection of complications. Similarly, JagaBunda provides a structured and proactive risk-screening framework applicable to postpartum conditions. Moreover, integrating monitoring data with electronic maternal and child health reporting systems is essential to ensure accuracy and timely clinical response. Overall, the literature confirms that an effective postpartum monitoring information system must incorporate digital accompaniment, proactive risk assessment, and integrated data management across healthcare levels.

Abstract

Anxiety is common among Emergency Room (ER) patients due to urgent conditions, a stressful setting, and uncertainty about care. Family presence can offer emotional reassurance, information, and a sense of security. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family support and anxiety levels in ER patients. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used with a sample of 93 patients, determined via G Power (power = 0.85, effect size = 0.3). Data were collected using a family support questionnaire and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State (STAI-S) scale. Most respondents were over 50 years old, female, and classified as green triage. The majority reported high family support (89.2%), while 47.3% had low anxiety levels. Spearman’s correlation test revealed a statistically significant negative relationship between family support and anxiety (r = –0.310; p = 0.002), indicating that higher family support is associated with lower anxiety. These findings highlight the family’s critical role as a protective factor in maintaining patients’ psychological stability during emergency treatment. The results support integrating family-centered care into ER protocols and provide a foundation for developing family-based psychosocial interventions in the Emergency Department to reduce patient anxiety and improve overall care experience.

Abstract

Decreased consciousness is a critical neurological condition requiring timely intervention to support brain recovery. Familiar Auditory Sensory Training (FAST), which uses personalized familiar sounds, is a promising non-pharmacological approach that activates cognitive and emotional pathways even in low-consciousness states. This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design with 46 participants, determined via G*Power (power = 0.75, effect size = 0.8). Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores were assessed before and after the intervention using standardized observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results showed a significant improvement in the intervention group, with GCS scores rising from an average of 11.70 to 13.52. In contrast, the control group showed only a minimal increase, from 12.17 to 12.26. These findings indicate that FAST effectively enhances consciousness levels in patients with impaired awareness. As a safe, simple, and non-invasive method.
