Abstract

Efforts to promote health through appropriate educational media, such as audio-visual media, are expected to improve the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women towards these risks. The objective of this research is to analyze the difference in effectiveness of education through audio-visual media compared to the KIA Book on the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women regarding high-risk pregnancies. Method: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. A sample of 40 pregnant women using total sampling technique, data were analyzed using T-test, Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, and Chi-square tests. Results: showed a significant difference in knowledge between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.001), with 70% of respondents in the intervention group having good knowledge compared to 33.3% in the control group. The Relative Risk (RR) value of 9.000 indicates that pregnant women who received education through video had a 9 times greater likelihood of having good knowledge. Additionally, there was a significant difference in attitudes (p < 0.001), where 85% of respondents in the intervention group showed a positive attitude compared to 43.3% in the control group, with an RR = 0.588, which means that the intervention group had a 41.2% protection against negative attitudes. Conclusion: Education using audio-visual media is more effective in increasing knowledge and shaping positive attitudes among pregnant women regarding high-risk pregnancies compared to the use of KIA Books. It is recommended for healthcare workers to use audio-visual media as an innovative health promotion medium in efforts to prevent pregnancy complications

Abstract

Stunting is a growth disorder caused by long-term chronic malnutrition. Based on e-PPGBM data, the prevalence of stunting among children under five at the Astambul Health Center was 20.89% in October 2023 and increased to 27.01% in February 2024. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing stunting and to develop a model of its incidence among toddlers in the working area of Astambul Health Center, Banjar Regency. This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 96 mothers of under-five children were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements and structured interviews using questionnaires, then analyzed with multiple logistic regression. The results showed that most mothers had an ideal pregnancy interval (82.3%) and attended ≥4 antenatal visits. Most children had no history of infection, and maternal knowledge was generally good (86.5%). Complementary feeding was age-appropriate in 72.9% of cases. However, energy intake was insufficient in 61% of children, while protein intake was adequate in 64.6%. Basic immunization coverage was complete in 64.6% and exclusive breastfeeding was reported in 68.8%. The study found a significant effect of complementary feeding patterns on stunting. Children receiving inappropriate complementary foods for their age had 1.3 times higher risk of stunting. In conclusion, improving mothers’ knowledge through nutrition counseling and encouraging their active participation in health education programs are crucial strategies to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Hypertension is a risk factor for stroke. One way to prevent stroke complications is to empower hypertensive patients to independently learn about early stroke detection through health education, so that there are changes in their knowledge, attitudes, and actions towards early stroke detection, which is expected to minimize the negative impact of stroke. The purpose of this study was to analyze the behavior of Early Stroke Detection in Hypertensive patients participating in Prolanis at Sungai Besar Community Health Center. The research design was a descriptive study with a Cross Sectional approach, with the population being all Hypertensive patients participating in Prolanis at Sungai Besar Community Health Center, Banjarbaru City. A sample of 30 people was taken during April 2025 using the Accidental Sampling technique. To analyze the behavior of Early Stroke Detection in hypertensive patients, there are three domains measured, namely knowledge, attitudes, and actions of hypertensive patients, which were measured using a questionnaire, and processed descriptively. Based on the 3 (three) behavioral domains, it can be concluded that although the level of knowledge of Early Stroke Detection is still lacking, it is supported by the dominance of positive attitudes and actions, encouraging the majority of Hypertensive patients to have good

Abstract

Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is one of the causes of obstetric complications that impact increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. PROM diagnosis generally uses litmus paper, but this method still has the weakness of subjectivity of the results. This study aims to develop pantyliners with a natural indicator based on turmeric extract (Curcuma longa L.) as an alternative to detect PROM. Purely experimental research was conducted in the laboratory and Sultan Suriansyah Hospital, Banjarmasin. Phytochemical tests showed that turmeric extract positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and quinones that act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, antimicrobials, and immunomodulators. GC-MS tests showed the dominant compounds were Ar-turmerone (29.38%) and Alpha-turmerone (22.79%), with supporting compounds in the form of vanillin, aromatic phenolics, and fatty acid esters. Turmeric extract immobilized on pantyliners showed significant color changes when dripped with amniotic fluid (reddish brown), vaginal secretions (bright yellow), and urine (yellow). Statistical tests showed a significant effect (p<0.005) between changes in pantyliner color and the diagnosis of PROM. These results demonstrate that turmeric extract contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties and has the potential to be used as an environmentally friendly natural indicator for early detection of PROM.

Abstract

South Kalimantan Province ranked 18th for diabetes mellitus cases in Indonesia in 2018. Banjarmasin City showed the highest prevalence, increasing from 1.7% in 2013 to 2.12% in 2018, with 16,013 cases recorded in 2022. Among the 27 community health centers, Alalak Selatan Health Center reported the highest coverage with 517 patients. This observational analytic study with a case-control design involved 52 cases and 52 controls selected through accidental sampling in three sub-districts under Alalak Selatan Health Center. The results revealed no significant association between age, gender, Body Mass Index (BMI), genetics, and knowledge with type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, diet and physical activity were significantly associated, with physical activity being the most influential factor. Improvement in dietary habits and increased physical activity, particularly exercise, are recommended for better diabetes mellitus prevention and management

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with a rising prevalence. Alkaloids are known to have antidiabetic effects by inhibiting carbohydrate-digesting enzymes and enhancing glucose metabolism. This study aimed to determine the total alkaloid content of Rambai leaves (Sonneratia caseolaris) using solvents with different polarities: ethanol and n-hexane. A descriptive study was conducted using the maceration method, followed by quantification of alkaloids with the quinine equivalent method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Results showed that ethanol extract produced a higher yield (17.72 g; 35.44%) compared to n-hexane (3.09 g; 6.18%). The alkaloid content in the ethanol extract was 414.43 µg/g, nearly twice that of n-hexane (217.09 µg/g). Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p<0.001). Ethanol was proven to be more effective in extracting polar to semi-polar alkaloid compounds. The high alkaloid content indicates Rambai leaves have potential as a natural source for diabetes therapy. These findings provide a foundation for future product development and preclinical trials.

Abstract

Abstrak Cholesterol represents a significant contributing factor to the development of ischemic heart disease and ischemic stroke. It is divided into two categories: high-density lipoprotein (HDL), commonly referred to as good cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), known as bad cholesterol. This research aims to examine the correlation between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward preventing increased cholesterol levels among elderly individuals. The study applied a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional design. The target population included older adults residing in the Kartasura Public Health Center area, encompassing those with both normal and high cholesterol levels, during the period from July to September 2025. Fifty participants were recruited through purposive sampling, with eligibility criteria including being 60 years of age or older and willing to complete the questionnaire. The study utilized validated and reliable instruments to assess knowledge and attitudes. The results are expected to enhance understanding of how knowledge and attitudes relate to efforts in preventing elevated cholesterol levels among the elderly.
