Abstract

Abstract

Water resources are one of the needs for the continuation of life. The majority of people in Indonesia still use a manual water tank filling system, so it requires regular checks. Filling the water tank manually is ineffective because it requires turning on and off the pump first so the use of electrical energy is increasingly wasteful. In this research, a water flow control system was developed to fill water tanks, making it easier to use water both at home and in public facilities. This water flow control system uses a Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) Converter as a DC motor pump supply voltage regulator. The SEPIC converter has the advantage of being able to increase and decrease the voltage value without changing the polarity. The duty cycle settings on the SEPIC converter are regulated using the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) control method. The water flow control settings in this system use feedback from the water flow sensor by utilizing the hall effect. Based on simulations and implementation that have been carried out using MATLAB as well as hardware testing, at a set point value of 1.5 liters/minute the output voltage value is 3.9 V, and at a set point value of 3 liters/minute the output voltage value is 6.8 V. Implementation of ANFIS control has proven to be a solution for regulating voltage and has worked more efficiently on loads.

Abstract

The eggshell of chicken, as a waste product from the food industry, has garnered attention in environmental sustainability efforts. In the context of composites, chicken eggshell offers the potential as an economical and sustainable reinforcement. The use of reinforcing materials in the form of particles is a common approach in composite development. Despite research on the use of chicken eggshell as a reinforcement in composites, the comprehensive effects of content and various particle sizes on unsaturated polyester composites using chicken eggshell on impact strength have not been thoroughly explained. This research aims to fill this knowledge gap by investigating the influence of content and particle size of chicken eggshell on the impact strength of unsaturated polyester composites. Composites were prepared using Polyester UPR 108 matrix reinforced with chicken eggshell that had been crushed into powder with various particle sizes of 40 mesh, 60 mesh, 80 mesh, and 100 mesh. The variation in the volume fraction of particles used was 0%, 10%, 30%, and 50%. The influence of particle size on composite performance was evaluated using Charpy impact strength testing according to ISO 179-1 standards. The research results showed that pure resin had the lowest impact strength, at 1.09 kJ/m2. Test specimens with 100 mesh particle content had the highest impact strength, at 4.25 kJ/m2. These findings indicate that composites with smaller particle sizes tend to have higher impact strength

Abstract

Abstract

In order to participate in the international fuel-efficient vehicle competition, a team from the Mechanical Engineering department of Mataram University has prepared a prototype vehicle. The competition is The Shell Eco-Marathon, held at the International Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in Lombok in July 2023 and attended by several teams from abroad. For this purpose, the team has developed an energy-efficient prototype vehicle using a two-wheeler engine. The team has modified the two-wheeler engine to achieve more fuel-efficient consumption compared to conventional vehicles. The study involves checking the two-wheeler engine's condition, conducting engine startup experiments, and analyzing engine performance. The Mandalika Desantara racing team reduced the piston diameter to minimize the combustion chamber volume. The results of the engine modification on the prototype vehicle show a fuel consumption rate of 71.66 km/l when driving on the Mandalika circuit. However, this figure has not yet reached the desired level of efficiency, considering that the estimated fuel consumption of vehicles with conventional motor engines is around 40-50 km/l.
