Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using picture media towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade students of MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Dahu Bojong which was located on Jl. Prapatan Warungkupa Km. 01 Kp Dahu. Ds. Mekarsari Kec. Bojong Kab. Pandeglang, 42273. The population of this study was 50 students and the sample was 50 students. This study is carried out to find out whether there is a significant effect of using picture media towards students’ vocabulary mastery. This research used a quantitative true experimental approach using Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. In this research there are two variables, they are independent variable and dependent variable. The independent variable is Picture media (X), and then the dependent variable is Vocabulary Mastery (Y). In collecting the data this research used multiple choice test as instrument.The hypothesis analysis used analysis of t-test. In analysing the hypothesis this research used SPSS statistics 22. Finding of this study showed that there is a significant effect of using picture media towards students’ vocabulary mastery. It could be seen that t-count= 3.503 and signification value (p-value) = 0.001 < α = 0.05, so H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. On the other word, there is a significant effect of using picture media towards students’ vocabulary mastery. Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that vocabulary is one of the elements in English. Teaching English using Picture Media gave positive contribution especially on improving vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research objectives are to analyze the students cooperative learning group Investigation model and three-phase technique; To analyze the visual students and auditory students; To analyze the interaction between group investigation model and students learning styles. This is a true-experimental research. The sample selection was done by random class technique as much as two classes, where the first class was taught by group investigation model and second class with three-phase technique. The instruments used are validated conceptual test and questionnaires. The data in this research were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The results showed that the students using cooperative learning group investigation model was better than three-phase technique. Visual students shows better results than auditory students. There is an interaction between group Investigation model and students learning styles. This interaction shows visual students is dominant in group investigation model.

Abstract

This School Action Research (PTS) aims to improve the ability of teachers to develop innovative lesson plans through academic supervision (individual scientific and technical supervision models) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was conducted in four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection, and was carried out in two cycles. The research subjects were 4 science teachers and 4 social studies teachers in my school, namely SMAN 1 Puloampel, Serang district, Banten province. The components of the innovative RPP assessment consist of formulating indicators, formulating learning steps (KBM), allocating time, determining learning resources, formulating teaching methods, and formulating assessments while the innovations that are expected in making the RPP are RPPs that can produce, combine, have added value, something new and answers problems and is integrated with Strengthening Character Education (PPK), oriented to HOTS or improving students' higher thinking skills and having 21st-century skills. In the first cycle, the researcher observed an increase in teacher competence in making innovative lesson plans. The results of observations of individual RPP assessments in the first cycle showed an average value of 68.4%. In the second cycle, the teacher's average value increased in making lesson plans, which was 77.6%. While the classical lesson plan completeness assessment from cycle I and cycle II showed a good average value of 73%. This proves that academic supervision can improve the ability of teachers in preparing innovative RPP (Learning Implementation Plans).

Abstract

This research paper aims to analyze the comparative between British English and American English, because many language learners or English users still confuse to differentiate both of them, especially in the countries where English is foreign language. Sometimes, it cause misunderstanding in communication. The research paper use qualitative research design with characteristic of content analysis. It uses observation and documentation in collecting the data. The obtained data is vocabulary in Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary 9th edition which published in 2015. The researcher took 150 words to be analyzed. Based on the data analysis there are three differences in Vocabulary of British English and American English. The researchers divide the differences into three categories they are differences in Vocabulary (word using), spelling, and pronunciation. The researcher found 50 different words in vocabulary (word using), 50 different words in spelling and 50 words which have differences in pronunciation. Based on findings of this research, it is significant for language learners or English user to know the differences of British English and American English and improve their vocabulary of British and American English in order to decrease misunderstanding in communication. The researchers hope language learners or English user can decide which English varieties that will they use and the can use one of English varieties consistently.

Abstract

As citizens of Indonesian society, we should maintain the nation's culture, one of which is cultural heritage, namely the local language or language of each family in Indonesia. So that we as the nation's successors continue to take part in the maintenance and preservation of cultural heritage as a reflection of our identity as children of the nation. The relationship in which education in the family is the goal of national education so that the role of various parties is needed, such as; Teachers, government, facilities and infrastructure, and parents. The aims to be reached in writing this research are; the family language policy adopted by parents at home; Languages coexist (or lose, or gain) in their family environment; the efforts do parents make in learning and maintaining language in their homes. This study uses direct observation methods on the research subject, namely parents. The observations were made in the realm of the family (at home). The data obtained is in the form of a list of statements in the form of the respondent's characteristics, the respondent's response. Interviews in the form of questions and answers about language attitudes and assessment of language and language maintenance. The family language policy implemented by parents at home is frequent, meaning that based on the above percentage results, the policy regarding the language used by parents at home shows "Often" with an overall average percentage value of 50% or half of the expected 100% reviewed from the aspect of the language policy adopted; Language beliefs or ideologies, language practice, and language management. This indicates that the language policy adopted at home with the "Frequently" family is used. Meanwhile, based on the above percentage results, the attitude of the language used by the parents at home shows "disagree" with the overall average percentage value of 40% or 100% of the expected. Their efforts are to use the local language at home, equip their children with various sources both print and non-print, and stay in touch with local ethnic groups. To maintain the local language properly, there must be good cooperation between parents, schools, local government, and the community

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the politeness strategy used by clothes vendor at traditional market Pasar Bojong. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative approach. This researcher conducted on April 2021. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and interview. The researcher recorded 5 speech events and utterances of 5 different respondents as the populations and samples of this research. Interview used to support the data. The result of this research shows that language used by most of clothes vendors was Sudanese, and they tend to use negative politeness than positive politeness of Sudanese language.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact on applying the Numbered Head Together (NHT) strategy on eighth-grade students' reading comprehension of recount material at SMPN 10 Kota Serang. For the study, the researchers conducted quantitative research with a true experimental design. The participants in this study were eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Kota Serang. Cluster random sampling was used to choose the sample for this study. There were 30 students in each of the two classes participated in this study: VIII B as the experimental class and VIII G as the control class. The experimental class was instructed using the NHT strategy, while the control group was instructed using the lecturing technique. The data were gathered by pre- and post-tests, and the hypothesis was tested by using the t-test procedure. The t-test calculation revealed that t-count (9.22) was higher than t-table (2.00) with a significance of 0.05. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) has been accepted. It can be determined that applying the NHT strategy had a substantial impact on students' reading comprehension of recount text in eighth grade at SMPN 10 Kota Serang.

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate an analysis on students’ vocabulary errors in constructing descriptive text at the First Grade Students of SMK IT Al-Halim. The research is conducted through content analysis. Data of the research are taken from documentation of description text and interview with the students of SMK IT Al-Halim. Result of the research shows that there were vocabulary error in constructing descriptive text; there were lexical error, syntactical error, and discourse error. The dominant of errors is in lexical error especially in spelling errors. Vocabulary error is caused they are lacks of awareness of students in increasing mastery of the vocabulary; English words have multiple meanings and confusion, so it makes them difficult in learning English. They are also bored and lazy to look for vocabulary. In other hand, the method used by the teacher does not appropriate in learning process. Therefore, the students should enrich vocabulary by memorize ten or more of vocabulary in one day. The students also should more often open dictionary. Furthermore, and the teacher should motivate the students in learning English. Then, the teachers should give clearly, explanation and clarification when teach English especially in vocabulary for students

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the utilization of Google form in Statistics course at English education department, teacher training and education faculty, University of Mathla’ul Anwar. The researcher conducted qualitative research with literature study design. The methods used were bibliographical searches and learning descriptions using Google Forms. The source of literature investigated were journal articles, continuous article, books and articles relating with Google Form as learning media. The participants of the research were 6th semester students of English Education Department. So far, Google Forms are more often used for evaluation or assessment of learning, even though it also can be used as learning media to teaching a specific material by attaching videos and graphics to support material explanation. Google forms is cheap and effective learning media because it does not need more quota to access and specific application, it merely has to have a Google account.

Abstract

The importance of learning English as a foreign language or second language in the university environment, as it is known that English is a widely spoken language all over the world, however, inefficient learning of English is a tremendous problem for many English departments in the English language. Apart from the linguistic environment, the lack of an effective strategy guide is also one of the main factors causing this problem. To find out whether the use of language learning strategies helps the speaking ability of students in English departments or not, in this study, fifteen students in English departments were surveyed with a questionnaire about learning English and using their strategies. It was found that most students in this private university used metacognitive learning strategies with an index of 3.80, and compensation and affective strategies were used the least with an index of 2.67 while cognitive strategies were used almost frequently but sometimes memory and social strategies were used by students a private university student in English departments in this Pandeglang district. In other words, the use of learning strategies helps students' English skills there. Therefore, to improve students' English, this paper proposes that lecturers systematically guide students in learning strategies.
