Abstract

In Indonesia, it will be said that A.Mukti Ali is a pioneer in introducing religious studies. A.Mukti Ali realized thatreligious studies did not only need the scientific methods but they must also integrate with social approaches. He thoughtreligious studies should be conducted objectively without involving the apologists-polemical element as a basic concept. Infact, the use of the scientific method, social sciences, and objective attitude do not be certainly enough to understandreligious phenomenon, despite religious reflection must be involved and researchers must give their views too. All componentsmust be synthesized in order to produce a holistic and integral assessment of religious phenomenon. The integratedcomponents that needed in studying religious phenomenon is what be called by Mukti Ali as a scientific approach-cumdoctrinaire.This writing will discussed about A.Mukti Alis thoughts in the field of religious studies.

Abstract

Quoting BNPT?s statement, there are at least 19 Islamic boarding school in Indonesia indicated to support the activities of radicalism and terrorism. Initially, the statement was based on several analytical factors, namely, the historical linkages of the post-conflict pesantren establishment, as well as the association of the founding figures with some organizations that allegedly taught the radical flow. Starting from this statement, it is urgent to do research on one of the radically categorized pesantren, namely Pesantren Darul Wahyain Magetan. The reason for the selection of this pesantren according to information that the authors get from various sources, there are no signs or real evidence on the ground indicating that the Pesantren is based radically. The existence of Pondok Pesantren Darul Wahyain in Magetan does not meet the criteria to be called a radical pesantren, as formulated by the experts, namely textual, unilateral truth claims, a priori with western, anti-secular and extreme. In relation to the curriculum it can be explained that in general, the curriculum applied in Pesantren Darul Wahyain is not all that directs his santri into radicalist or terrorist.

Abstract

The quality of a hadith can be seen through sanad or matan. It also can be found onhadith that speaks about the primacy of surah in the Qur'an for example: 1.The primacyof reading once of the surah yasin like reading Qur'an tne times, it because of Yasin is theheart of the Qur'an. 2. The virtue of surah al waqi'ah when it is read every night, wouldnot poverty stricken. 3. Surah Arrahman as the bride of the Quran. 4. Surah alBaqarah as the highest of the Qur'an. Practice is not intended as instructions from these traditions, but on thebasis of intended ikhtiyath (prudent)

Abstract

The Quran had various styles and modes in making up Gods word, one of which was the narrative one. There were many narrative verses in the Quran -including verses telling stories of His prophets- to which most of Muslim scholars unfortunately did not devote their attention. A.H. Johns, a professor of ANU, was one of a few scholars who focused his study on narrative criticism that was actually one of branches of literary criticism. Unlike historical criticism which tended to investigate the origins of a text and what lied behind it, literary criticism gave much attention to interpretive acts of a text itself. Using this method of interpretation, and relying on his belief that the Quran must be understood as a both a process and an event, Johns explored possible meanings the verses imply by making connection between the verse under discussion and other verses in the same pericope and in the whole Sura. Through this method of interpretation, Johns succeeded in discovering many novel meanings of narrative verses of the Quran not found out by using any other method. This work wanted to elaborate much on Johns study and showed some fortune and possibilities in using this method in understanding the meaning of the Quran, especially of its narrative verses.
