Abstract

This study examines the association between environmental performance ratings, carbon emission disclosure, and firm value in Indonesia’s energy and industrial sectors. The sample comprises firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and covered by the PROPER program during 2019–2023, yielding 160 firm-year observations from 32 firms. Firm value is proxied by Tobin’s Q. Environmental performance is measured using the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s PROPER rating, while carbon emission disclosure is constructed based on a checklist derived from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Panel regression analysis controls profitability (ROE), sales growth, leverage (DER), and firm size (SIZE). The results indicate that environmental performance ratings are not significantly associated with firm value, whereas carbon emission disclosure exhibits a positive and statistically significant association. Among the control variables, only profitability shows a significant relationship with firm value. These findings suggest that, in this context, investors place greater weight on transparent and decision-useful carbon-related disclosure than on aggregate environmental performance ratings. The study provides evidence from an emerging market setting and offers implications for regulators and firms regarding the relative valuation relevance of disclosure quality and performance ratings.

Abstract

Central Java Province accounts for 21% of national rice production (BPS, 2024), but 34.5% of farmers still face a price disparity of Rp1,500/kg between grain and rice (Ministry of Agriculture, 2024). In addition, the supply chain is not yet efficient, with a waiting time of 3-4 days and post-harvest losses reaching 12.3% due to manual systems. The research developed GilingOBar, a cloud-based GIS application to integrate farmers with rice milling centers. This application introduces the concept of Digital Grain Pooling, which combines the supply of farmers in one area with the support of the Smart Routing System to reduce transportation costs. Market transparency is also realized through real-time data on milling rates and grain and rice prices. The season and weather prediction features help farmers determine the right milling time so that post-harvest losses can be reduced. The research method combines Agile Development and Action Research. Agile supports the development of the application in stages with direct feedback from farmers and millers, while Action Research ensures the technology is truly relevant to the socio-economic conditions of traditional farming. The findings of this study align with the objectives of the Digital Agriculture Roadmap 2024–2029, particularly the target of digitizing 50% of agribusiness transactions. Beyond supporting this policy direction, the proposed GilingOBar platform introduces a novel technology-driven business model that applies shared economy principles to the post-harvest rice supply chain. Unlike existing digital initiatives, GilingOBar integrates real-time data, digital coordination, and community-based logistics into a single system. This innovation contributes to higher farm incomes, improved supply chain efficiency, greater price transparency, reduced post-harvest losses, and strengthened empowerment of agricultural communities.

Abstract

This paper studies the determinants of bank financial distress using a 2012–2018 multi-country panel (73,124 bank-year observations; 10,562 banks; 32 countries). Fixed-effects estimates show that higher capital (Tier-1/RWA) and better asset quality (lower NPL) are associated with higher Z-scores (lower distress). Intangible intensity is positively related to distress. Cash-holding proxies load negatively in the Z-score equation, indicating that larger cash balances coincide with lower Z-scores in this sample. One interpretation is that excess cash reflects under-deployment or precautionary hoarding during adverse conditions, which does not translate into stronger stability. Results are robust to alternative specifications. Policy implications highlight calibrating core capital, strengthening credit risk management, and optimizing not hoarding liquidity.

Abstract

The textile industry plays a role in boosting city economic growth, but in practice, it contributes to environmental pollution. The concept of a circular economy can be an alternative approach to overcome these problems. The case study in this study is Studio Sejauh, which plays a leading role as one of the initiators of the circular economy concept in Pekalongan City. The purpose of this research is to explore circular-economy collaboration practices that can increase the textile industry's added value in Pekalongan City. This study uses a qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and document analysis. The analysis used was qualitative descriptive analysis, coding analysis, and Social Network Analysis (SNA). In its production chain, Studio Sejauh applies the 9R strategy (Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle, and Recover). Moreover, play a role in sustainable urban development. Implementing the Circular Economy creates value for the product, as seen from economic, environmental, and social perspectives. In practice, Studio Sejauh collaborates with textile industry players, especially in Central Java. This collaboration is an important factor in realizing a circular economy because it can provide greater results. The study found that aligned goals were the primary drivers of collaboration. The results of this research can enrich the literature on circular economy collaboration, serve as a basis for translating circular economy practices into the textile industry, and serve as a reference for other industry players to adopt similar practices.

Abstract

Tourism plays a vital role in Central Java’s economy, yet its potential is constrained by fragmented data, uneven digital access, and limited MSME financial inclusion. This study introduces Jateng Explore (JX), a regional-scale digital public infrastructure model for sustainable tourism governance that integrates tourism services, MSMEs, and government coordination within a modular platform.. Developed through a design-based research approach, JX features smart modules including Destination Intelligence, Thematic Tourism Module, Halal & Inclusive Tourism Engine, Smart Booking, and a Digital MSME Marketplace. The platform incorporates AI-driven profiling, ESG gamification, and GIS-based analytics to enable personalized, equitable, and sustainable tourism experiences. The study’s originality lies in embedding data interoperability, sustainability-by-design, and financial inclusion within a public-sector-led smart tourism ecosystem, moving beyond fragmented or firm-centric platforms. It also aligns with national platforms like Satu Data Indonesia, positioning JX as a scalable model for smart tourism governance.

Abstract

Focusing on Central Java, this study presents a regional case study of logistics route optimization. Logistics inefficiency remains a critical bottleneck to regional competitiveness in Indonesia, particularly in provinces like Central Java, where dense population and industrial activity demand high-performing transport systems. This study explores the potential of intermodal logistics (integrating rail and road transport) to reduce distribution costs and enhance supply chain sustainability. Using Dijkstra’s algorithm on a custom-built transport network graph derived from OpenStreetMap data, we simulate logistics costs across 16 districts in Semarang City under two scenarios: direct road transport and intermodal routing via Semarang Tawang Station. The analysis incorporates vehicle capacities, fuel consumption rates, and population-based demand estimates to calculate total delivery costs, revealing that intermodal solutions yield substantial savings in most districts. Statistical testing confirms the significance of these cost differences. Unlike previous studies, this research contributes to the literature by providing a network-level, cost-optimization assessment of logistics modal in a regional context. Key policy recommendations include developing intermodal hubs, upgrading rail access, and tailoring vehicle deployment to local infrastructure constraints. This study not only contributes to the academic discourse on transport optimization and sustainable logistics but also provides actionable insights for planners and decision-makers aiming to enhance regional connectivity and reduce logistics burdens on businesses.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of air temperature on the prevalence of mental health disorders in Indonesia from 2013 to 2023, and projects the future burden through 2045. Using panel data from 34 provinces across three time points, the analysis employs a random effects model to capture interregional variation. The findings reveal that annual average temperature is positively and significantly correlated with the prevalence of mental health disorders. Specifically, a 1-degree-Celsius increase in temperature is associated with a 0.5–0.6 percent rise in the proportion of the population experiencing mental health issues. Among socioeconomic factors, unemployment shows a significant positive association, while income inequality, poverty, and unmet need for mental health services are statistically insignificant. The study further constructs long-term projections by integrating regression results with climate and demographic trends. These results highlight the urgency of incorporating mental health dimensions into climate adaptation policies, especially in tropical middle-income countries. A spatial-temporal evidence-based approach is essential for developing early warning systems and responsive policy interventions to address climate-related mental health risks.

Abstract

The end of the pandemic period has brought Central Java’s tourism sector into a phase of rapid revival. This study highlights the role of local railway networks in Central Java as a potential framework for sustainable tourism development. By combining official statistics with geospatial big data, the spatial distribution of tourist attractions and tourism infrastructure across the province was mapped using Kernel Density Estimation. In addition, a Tourism Infrastructure Spatial Index was constructed for each railway station to analyze the potential and challenges of rail-based tourism development. The findings reveal that tourism development in Central Java remains uneven. The Tourism Infrastructure Spatial Index further indicates that most railway stations are not yet connected to adequate tourism infrastructure. Nevertheless, there is considerable potential to advance rail tourism by strengthening the connectivity of strategic stations to maximize tourism impact. This study recommends the “Ring of Java” brand as an integrated rail tourism development model, mapping the connections among railway routes. It is expected that this initiative will help redistribute tourist flows from major destinations to other regions that remain underexplored.

Abstract

Strengthening the tourism sector's contribution to the economy remains a challenge in promoting inclusive and sustainable growth. Moreover, in situations of economic slowdown and uncertainty, tourism as a non-primary commodity tends to be deprioritized by the public in favor of basic needs. This study aims to (1) analyze the demand side of the tourism sector through an analysis of tourists' willingness to pay in Central Java Province; and (2) analyze the supply side through reviews of destinations and supporting facilities in the Pesona Semarsaga area. The methods used are Tobit regression based on microdata from the March 2024 National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS), and sentiment analysis of tourist reviews from Google Review big data. The results indicate that characteristics such as traveler type, gender, generation, regional classification, education, financial inclusion, and employment status significantly influence willingness to pay (WTP). Furthermore, sentiment toward tourist attractions tends to be positive, but positive sentiment toward supporting facilities remains below average. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of microeconomic analysis from national data with online review big data to understand the balance between regional tourism demand and supply. The implication is that these findings reinforce the consumer behavior model in the tourism economy and provide practical guidance for improving facilities and managing sustainable destinations.

Abstract

Food distribution disparities remain a persistent challenge in the Barlingmascakeb region (Banyumas, Cilacap, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, and Kebumen), where socio-economic and infrastructural factors drive regional inequalities. This study applies a machine learning–based classification approach to identify sub-districts categorised as food surplus or deficit. The dataset, initially imbalanced, was balanced using the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE), followed by training and evaluating four ensemble algorithms: AdaBoost, Gradient Boosting, XGBoost, and CatBoost. Among the tested models, AdaBoost demonstrated the best overall performance with an accuracy of 0.9565, precision of 1.00, recall of 0.8333, and F1-score of 0.9091. Gradient Boosting achieved a more balanced recall (0.8333) than XGBoost and CatBoost, although with lower precision. Based on the Gradient Boosting model, Feature importance analysis identified the Food Security Index as the most critical determinant of food status, followed by clean water access, morbidity rate, health workforce availability, and poverty levels. This study offers a novel contribution by providing a high-resolution, sub-district-level classification of food surplus and deficit conditions using interpretable ensemble machine learning models integrated with multidimensional socio-economic and health indicators. Practically, the model supports targeted and data-driven food distribution policies; theoretically, it reinforces the multifaceted nature of food security beyond production alone; and for future research, it opens opportunities to extend the framework to spatio-temporal and optimization-based food distribution models.
