Abstract

Manufacturing of prototype of plastics film for a biodegradable packaging from a mixture of polymer synthetic polystyrene (PS) and polycaprolactone (PCL) has been carried out. Plastics film containing of PS/PCL created by blending techniques followed by solvent casting, the ratios were 100/0, 95/5, 90/10 and 85/15. The resulting of plastic film is a clear sheet with an average thickness of 0.03 cm. The biodegradation rate profile was observed by soil burial test method to see the weight reduction of the plastic films tested for a certain period of time. The results showed that the biodegradation rate profile increased with the addition of PCL with the t50% in the 100/0, 95/5, 90/10 and 85/15 ratios respectively being 352.33; 91.19; 71.97 and 59.85 weeks, and t95% in the 100/0, 95/5, 90/10 and 85/15 ratios were respectively 677.01; 177.32; 139.43 and 115.79 weeks. Furthermore, the number of microbes present in each gram of soil is 1.83 x 105.

Abstract

Papaya (Carica papaya L) is a very popular and important fruit in the tropical part where as a nutritious plant that can cure diseases. every part of papaya plants can be utilized start, roots, stems, leaves, fruit and even seeds of fruit. Traditionally papaya seeds can be used as a roundworm drug indigestion, diarrhea, skin diseases, colds, and as a source to get oil with fatty acid content. This research uses extract and steep seeds on papaya fruit with Escherichia coli test bacteria, Salmonella typhi, and Staphlycoccus aureus. From this research we get the result of inhibitory power : Escherichia coli at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% 80% and 100% were 8.72 mm; 9.53 mm; 10.61 mm; 10.99 mm; and 12.19 mm. Salmonella thypi at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% 80% and 100% were 7.07 mm; 8.63 mm; 9.54 mm; 9.78 mm; and 10.16 mm. Staphylococcus aureus at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% 80% and 100% was 6.4 mm; 6.8 mm; 7.8 mm; 7.9 mm; and 10.1 mm.

Abstract

Formalin or commonly referred to as formaldehyde is a clear liquid, colorless or almost colorless, piercing smell, steam stimulates the mucous membrane of the nose and throat. The use of formalin as a food preservative is prohibited in the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 033 of 2012, because formalin is toxic (poison). This study identified formalin content in ground turmeric using Schiff reagent. The sample used is ground turmeric which is produced in the market at Panam, Pekanbaru. The purpose of this study was to determine whether milled turmeric produced at the Panam Market in Pekanbaru city contained formaldehyde. This method research qualitative analysis and was conducted at the Anafarma Laboratory of Abdurrab University in January 2017. From the results of the research that has been done, it was obtained from 10 test samples, 3 of which were positive formalin.

Abstract

Lipstick is the familiar product for women in difference age. Kind of lipstick that interested now is liquid lipstick. Not only it is cheap but also it can durable on lips. The actually using lipstick have to see of that safety from dangerous content like weight metal that content more than regulation. The objective of this research to know polluted metal content on some liquid lipsticks brand that they don’t registered in BPOM RI. Determine of standard metal on samples used spectrometry atom absorption (SSA) on facet 283.22 nm. The average metal content on sample a was 0.45999 PPM, sample B was 2.96333 ppm, and sample C was 0.62334 ppm. It can conclude that liquid lisptics have polluted on weight metal content but its content still fulfill of BPOM Standard is 20 µg/grs or 20 mgs/L

Abstract

Has conducted a study entitled Switching Antibiotic Therapy to Cases of Appendicitis Surgery in Functional Medical Staff of Arifin Achmad Regional General Hospital, Riau Province. This type of research is a retrospective data observation study, medical record data of appendicitis surgery patients during 2010. The method used is the census method. Antibiotics - Oral Substitution Therapy (IAOST) Protocol to medical record data of appendicitis surgery patients at surgical SMF Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, following: a therapeutic switch (+) of 17% (29 cases), a percentage that met the switch therapy criteria and did not occur switch therapy (Δ) of 67% (114 cases), the percentage that did not meet the switch therapy criteria and switch therapy occurred (X) by 6% (11 cases), the percentage that did not meet the switch therapy criteria and no therapeutic switch (V) 17% (17 cases).

Abstract

To find out the effectiveness of antibiotics in typhoid fever patients at the SMF of Pediatric and SMF in Internal Medicine Dr. RSUP M. Djamil Padang. This study was a cross-sectional study with a retrospective type of data during 2012 and prospective from June to September 2013, with a descriptive analysis design. The number of patients who met the inclusion criteria were 11 patients. Percentage of antibiotic use in adult patients for ceftriaxone (60%) and chloramphenicol (40%). The percentage of antibiotic use in pediatric patients for ceftriaxone, chloramphenicol, and cefixim are 60%, 27%, and 13%, respectively. Fever free for ceftriaxone and chloramphenicol in pediatric and adult patients, each of which is 2-3 days and 4-6 days; 3-4 days and 4 days. To be free of cefixime fever in pediatric patients is 2 days. The length of treatment required is ceftriaxone and chloramphenicol (children and adults) antibiotics, 6 - 13 days and 9-13, respectively; 11-14 and 7 days. For the duration of cefixime antibiotic treatment for children is 13 days. The results of this study indicate that antibiotics that are used effectively against typhoid fever patients are seen from the time of free of fever and length of stay.

Abstract

Mempening (Lithocarpus bancanus (Scheff.) Rehd) is a species belongs to the family Fagaceae which is found growing around the Talang Mamak tribal region in Kelayang District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the toxicity of leaf extract of L. bancanus (Scheff.) Rehd against Artemia salina Leach larvae using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method and its phytochemical analysis. The results of the toxicity was determined against n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and ethanol extract and they showed LC50 values ​​of 3.15 ppm; 41163.26 ppm; 5817.09 ppm; 817, 27 ppm; 9019.70 ppm. Phytochemical analysis of the leaves of L. bancanus (Scheff.) Rehd plant showed a class of flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolics and saponins.

Abstract

Flavonols derivatives of 2'-hydroxycalone have been synthesized under basic condition (KOH). The structures of all compounds were characterized based on the interpretation of spectroscopic data including HPLC, UV, FTIR, NMR and HRMS. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay which showed that the flavonol 2'-hydroxycalone derivative was potentially active as antioxidants with IC50 values <1000 µg / mL.

Abstract

Tomato is a kind of fruit containing vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed for collagen production, bone and teeth formation, wound healing, and immunity to infection. This vitamin is dissolve in water and easy to be destroyed by light and high temperature, so the storage and condition of tomato fruits need special attention to keep an adequate vitamin C level it contained. This research aimed to determine the level of vitamin C in three kinds tomato fruits maturation degree: raw, half-mature, and mature. The quantification was conducted using spectrophotometry UV-Vis method with maximum wave length of 265 nm and absorbance of 0.475 (Y=0.0557X + 0.0789). The result showed that the average level of vitamin C in raw, half-mature, and mature tomato was 74.03666; 53.81333; and 43.56666 mg/100g, respectively. In conclusion, the level of vitamin C in raw tomato was the highest among all samples.

Abstract

Traditionally, ketapang plants are widely used by people to treat diseases of the skin such as scabies, ringworm, and other skin diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. Phytochemical screening on ethanol extract and ketapang leaf extract that grows in Pekanbaru City has never been done. The purpose of this study was to identify active compounds in ethanol extract and extract fraction of ketapang leaves that grew in Pekanbaru City. Based on phytochemical screening results, it is known that ethanol extract of ketapang leaves contains alkaloids and flavonoids, in the hexane fraction contains steroids and ethyl acetate fractions contain flavonoids.
