Since covid-19 has become pandemic, an abundance of coronavirus news fills the mass media throughout the world. The pandemic is constructed verbally from various perspectives for many purposes. In Indonesia, the discourse of the pandemic is not only about the disease, but also about other social issues related to the pandemic. Through certain discourses, the text producers may present various meanings. This study purposes to uncover social meanings presented in the discourses constructed by the mass media regarding the Indonesian government policies to cut the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a critical discourse analysis approach, the researchers analyze clauses containing three terms: Isolasi Mandiri, PSBB, and local lockdown from 28 downloaded texts. The focus of analysis is on the selection of lexico-grammar used to represent the policies to cut the chain of the pandemic. The result shows that there are three patterns in positioning participants regarding who has to take the responsibility for the implementation of the policies. The discourse about Isolasi Mandiri position residents as a party who has to be responsible and the government was positioned as the controller. The discourse of PSBB has positioned the government as a party that conducts and controls the implementation of the policies. The discourse of local lockdown represented that the policy was only as planning urged by the NGO and has not been conducted by the government. The context influencing the discourse is the socio-economic context. The discourses also show that the way media represented the policies is in line with the government agenda.

This paper studies word collocation of “poligami” in two Indonesian novels entitled Ayat-Ayat Cinta 1 and Catatan Hati Seorang Istri 1, aiming to examine cultural perspectives about polygamy in literary works. Corpus data is used as the basis of studies to examine the collocation of the word “poligami” in the two novels. The results obtained are further classified into nouns, verbs, and adjectives using the language theory involving semantic prosody and culture linguistics. Based on the collocations of “poligami”, the two novelists appear to have different attitudes towards polygamy. The neutral attitude in Ayat-Ayat Cinta 1 indicates that the male author is not exactly in favor of polygamy while Catatan Hati Seorang Istri 1 written by a female author is positive and this reflects women’s acceptance of the idea of polygamy in the novel.

This study discusses manner verb construction and reduplication of the Kedang language from the perspective of typology. This study is a descriptive qualitative study by describing the pattern of manner verb construction of the Kedang language. The data is analyzed by using distributional (agih) and identity (padan) methods through breaking down words and sentences. The choice and equivalent of sentences are adjusted with the typology rule of universal language by Dixon (2006); serial verb construction. The result of this study showed that the manner verb construction of the Kedang language is an action-manner with verb and reduplication. There are five patterns of manner verb construction; V1 Intransitive + V2 transitive, V1 Intransitive + V2 Intransitive, V1 Transitive + V1 Transitive, V1 transitive + V2 Intransitive, and V Tran/Inf +Adj. However, manner verb construction with reduplication is classified into three categories: V1 intransitive + total reduplication, V1 transitive + total reduplication, and V1 transitive/intransitive + total reduplication with sound change. The verbs that accompany the reduplication of the word are motion and action verb. The manner verb is always in second place to clarify the activity of the first verb.

This study was a morphology descriptive analysis of Manggarai language (BM) which was focused on three areas those are language typology based on the level of morphological use namely analytic, synthetic, and polysynthetic; morpheme identification; and morphological process. Therefore the aim of this study was to describe them. Data used in this study were library data which were collected using simak method and introspection method. The data were analyzed using agih method. Besides, there are three main results of the analysis data in this study. The first showed that BM is the analytic language because morphologically words in BM are monomorphemic. The second finding showed that bound morphemes in BM not related to affixation, but they are related to the combination of synonyms and clitictation. The last finding found that there is no affixation in the morphological process, but it is only compound words and reduplication.

The issue of maintaining the Sundanese Brebes language in the Sundanese community in Brebes Regency was raised because the existence of the Sundanese Brebes language is potentially threatened economically, socially, and politically by Javanese, Indonesian, and foreign languages. Previous studies suggest that monolingual communities are vulnerable to switch to languages with higher political power, whereas established multilingual communities tend to survive. However, this is different from the Sundanese Brebes language. The purpose of this paper is to examine the pattern of Sundanese Brebes maintenance based on heterogeneity. The number of respondents in this study was 400. The results of the analysis showed that monolingual communities type 1 and 2 maintain Sundanese Brebes language more active than multilingual communities type 3 and 4. In the monolingual community, the presence of Javanese and Indonesian languages with dominant economic and political power did not influence significantly language maintenance. In contrast, the maintenance of Sundanese Brebes in the multilingual community is more passive. The maintenance of Sundanese Brebes still occurs because of the strong identity of Sundanese Brebes. This study is expected to contribute to the study of language maintenance patterns in several community characteristics.

Osing is a language spoken by the majority of people in Banyuwangi, East Java. However, there is obscurity on its status whether it is considered as one of the Javanese dialects or as an independent language originated in Java. Some noted that the Osing is another version of Javanese, while the people living in the Banyuwangi Region regard the Osing as a distinct identity that differentiates it from the rest of the Javanese speaking regions in Central and East Java. Hence, this research aims to provide linguistic evidence on the lexical differences between the Osing and Malang Javanese. The research is significant because there is no previous research that provides linguistic evidence on the differences between the Osing and other Javanese dialects. Data of this study was obtained through eliciting the production of the basic vocabulary of the Osing and Malang Javanese speakers. The findings of the research provide evidence to the observation of previous linguists in that the Osing is not a linguistically separate language of Javanese.

It is a qualitative descriptive study using content analysis. Within the Systemic Functional Linguistic approach, this study reveals textual meaning through the analysis of Theme and Rhyme consist of the Topical Theme; Unmarked Topical Theme, and Marked Topical Theme, Textual Theme, and Interpersonal Theme. The data are clauses taken from the football player supporting-chant lyrics from the supporters of the big six clubs. The analysis results are obtained through domain, taxonomy, componential and cultural themes analysis. Six chants are analyzed by textual meaning. Topical Theme analysis shows the development of a topic in the lyrics of supporting chants. Textual Theme indicates the connecting clause from the previous. Interpersonal Theme shows the interaction and transacting socially. These themes created a smooth information flow on the chant. Besides, it brought the meaning of these lyrics delivered well to the listener.

This article conveys a case-of-systematic survey of outstanding progress on corpora conducted by researchers affiliated with different common-section institutions all over the world. Such a range overview selected 20 outstanding types of research from multi research-pushing institutions all around the world. These projects employ corpus techniques and technology to treat an enormous domain of research queries that are relevant to linguistic studies, language teaching and learning, cultural studies, and discourse analysis. These varied implementations of corpus techniques and advances clearly explain the great stress and chances that corpora applied in linguistics can hand to those who have the intention to research, educate, and learn the language.
