Abstract

This study aims to determine the biological aspects of blacktip sea catfish (Piicofillis dussumieri) in the Barumun River. Fish samples were taken for three months (September 2020-January 2121). The research station was determined by purposive sampling. The fish were caught using 3 gill nets with 1.5 inch mesh. The number of fish caught is counted and then the total length and weight are measured. The data were interpreted in graphical form using the Microsoft Excel 2010 application. The results showed that the growth pattern of blacktip sea catfish was negative allometric with a value of y = 26.3531e0.0796 and R2 = 0.9718. The sex ratio for male and female fish is 3:1. The population density is between 1.20 - 1.6 /100 m2. In conclusion, the growth pattern of P. dusumeiri was negative allometric. The sex ratio (sex ratio) between males and females is not balanced. The condition of blacktip sea catfish population in the Barumun River began to be disturbed. Keywords: Biological Aspects, Piicofillis dussumieri, Barumun River

Abstract

This study aims to observe the potential use of taro hydrolysate (Colocasia esculenta L.) as a source of complex organic carbon to produce optimum cell density, biomass, lipid and chlorophyll content from T. chui microalgae under myxotrophic conditions. The culture was carried out in a vial containing 400 mL of bold basal medium. Taro hydrolysate is given in five concentrations, namely: 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 g/L. The results showed that T. chui microalgae could grow in myxotrophic conditions with the addition of taro hydrolysate in the concentration range of 5 to 20 g/L. The maximum cell density and dry weight in the addition of 10 g/L taro hydrolysate were 4.23 x 105 cells/ml and 0.57 g/L, respectively. Meanwhile, the maximum fresh weight and lipid content were achieved at the addition of 15 g/L taro hydrolysate, namely 4.85 g/L and 67.4%. Chlorophyll content decreased with increasing concentration of taro hydrolysate. In conclusion, the use of taro hydrolysate can increase cell density, fresh weight and dry weight, lipid content and decrease the chlorophyll content of T.chui microalgae in myxotrophic culture. Abstract

This study aims to determine the density correlation of three species of mullet with the water’s physical and chemical parameters in the Barumun River. This explorative type of research using the purposive sampling method. Fish are caught using a gill net with a mesh size of 1 inch. Analysis of the research data was carried out using the SPSS version 22 application program. The results showed that there were three types of mullet fish caught in the Barumun River, namely Chelon subveridis, Moolgarda perusii and Liza alata. The bivariate correlation test analysis results showed that water transparency and pH showed a positive correlation (+), while temperature, current and salinity had a negative correlation (-). The highest positive correlation value is found in water transparency. In conclusion, the higher the water transparency value, the higher the density of the mullet fish. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of a combination of compost and chemical fertilizers on soybean (Glycine max L.) production. The research method used was a completely randomized design (CRD) using four treatments and six replications. The combination treatment of compost and chemical fertilizers, namely NPK fertilizer (control) (P0), straw compost + NPK (P1), coffee husk compost + NPK (P2) and vegetable waste compost + NPK (P3). The research data were analyzed by one factor ANOVA using SPSS 16 and continued by using the LSD test at the 5% real level. The results showed that the best treatment to increase the number of pods and dry weight of seeds was the P1 treatment (straw compost + NPK), but it was not significantly different from the P3 treatment (vegetable compost + NPK). In conclusion, there is an effect of a combination of compost and chemical fertilizers on soybean production (Glycine max L.). Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of thermal comfort of Tanjungpura University's green open space. The method used is to measure air temperature and humidity at seven green open spaces with three observation periods and then analyze it by calculating the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) value at each location. The results showed that the overall thermal comfort of green open space was still in the uncomfortable and partially uncomfortable category, with THI values between 25.61 to 28.93. In conclusion, there is a need for the development and enrichment of green open space vegetation in the Tanjungpura University area to increase thermal comfort for the academic community. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of infusion of black tea (Camellia sinensis) on the histopathological features of the testes in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) that had been induced with used cooking oil. The design of this research is an experimental post-test only control group design. The research subjects used 24 rats which were divided into six groups with six weeks of treatment. The testicular condition was assessed using the Johnsen Score criteria. The results of this study indicate that there are differences in testicular damage scores between treatment groups. The results of the histopathological score analysis showed that the group that was given only used cooking oil had a higher level of damage than the group that was only given black tea. The group that was given cooking oil and black tea one hour later affected testicular damage in rats with p significance values of 0.018 and 0.018. In conclusion, giving black tea infusion at a dose of 0.50 g/200 gram BW and 0.75 gr/200 gram BW was able to prevent damage due to oil induction with 12x heating in the testes of Rattus norvegicus rats. Abstract

This study aims to determine the rate of decomposition and the nutrient content of carbon (C-org), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) of mangrove leaf litter released during the decomposition process. The method used is purposive sampling, where the determination of observation stations is based on the year of mangrove planting, namely 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. The analysis of litter decomposition rate uses the Boonruang equation, C-org uses the Walkley & Black method, N uses the Kjeldahl method and P uses the wet destruction method. The results showed that the most significant decomposition rate occurred in the 2016 planting year litter of 71.924%, followed by 2007, 2010 and 2013 planting years with a value of 58,582%, 55,360% and 47,048%, respectively. The highest nutrient content of C-org and P was found in mangroves in the 2010 planting year with values of 50.82 and 0.14 ppm, and the highest N nutrient content was in the 2007 planting year with a value of 1.25%. In conclusion, the mangrove leaf litter during the research was not completely decomposed. The decomposition process in the 2010 planting year had the highest C-org and P-released nutrients. The highest N nutrient content was found in the 2007 planting year. Keywords: Decomposition Rate, Mangrove, Litter

Abstract

This study aims to determine the heavy metal content and vitamin E concentration of male Wistar rat testes exposed to Sarimukti landfill leachate. The research design used was a randomized block design. Rats were divided into four treatments, namely: aquabidestylates, 63% leachate, CdCl2, H2O2. The test substance was administered intraperitoneally for 14 days. Heavy metal concentrations were measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) method, while Vitamin E concentrations were measured using HPLC. The results showed that the concentration of heavy metal Zn in testicular tissue exposed to 63% leachate was 0.6 ppm, aquabidestylates was 0.5 ppm, while the other six metals had a concentration of 0 ppm. The measurement results of Vitamin E in the 63% leachate treatment were meager, namely, 1.06 ppm when compared to the aquabidestyl treatment of 7.92 ppm, CdCl2 and H2O2 were 0.53 ppm and 0.85 ppm, respectively. In conclusion, Sarimukti landfill leachate can cause an increase in ROS, which is indicated by a biomarker of decreased Vitamin E concentration in the testes, causing testicular damage.
