Abstract

This study aims to analyze the refractive thinking process of students in problem solving in terms of the level of productive fighting power. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study included 3 students of class X SMA Laboratorium Salatiga who were taken from students who had high, medium, and low fighting power. The research instruments included human instruments (researchers), essay tests in the form of mathematical application problems, namely the problem of delivering goods, field notes, and documentation. The analysis and conclusion stages used data triangulation techniques. The results of this study indicate that the stages of refractive thinking with medium and low fighting power include 5 stages, namely confusion, investigation, constructive activity, evaluation and decision making. The stages of refractive thinking of students with high fighting power include 4 stages, namely investigation, constructive activity, evaluation and decision making. In conclusion, students with high fighting power do not experience confusion (perplexity) in solving mathematical problems and do not need help from others. While students with medium and low fighting power go through all five stages in solving mathematical problems with the help of others. Abstract

This study aims to find the estimation profile in solving junior high school students' numeracy problems based on learning styles. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach that aims to provide an overview of the estimation process in solving students' numeracy problems based on learning styles. The results of this study indicate that visual learning styles in understanding, planning and implementing problem-solving plans still tend to calculate procedurally and do not utilize estimation strategies. In contrast to auditory learning style subjects in understanding problems, planning and implementing problem-solving plans have used estimation strategies, and in re-checking work, this learning style subject first uses calculations by making scribbles before concluding the truth of the explanation. For kinesthetic learning styles in understanding problems, planning and implementing problem-solving plans have utilized estimation strategies very well in getting their answers. This learning style in getting answers uses more and more varied estimation strategies compared to other learning style subjects. In re-checking the truth of the explanation, this learning style uses more scribbles before concluding the truth of the explanation compared to auditory and visual learning style subjects. In addition, this learning style subject makes good use of the calculation skills that they have to get their answers. In conclusion, learning style is related to the ability to solve numeracy problems, kinesthetic learning style has more answers and varies the use of estimation strategies compared to other learning style subjects Keywords: Estimation, Problem Solving, Learning Styles

Abstract

This research aims to examine the geometric concepts present in the traditional house "Dori Mpulor" as a basis for developing ethnomathematics-based mathematics learning to support the Merdeka Curriculum. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis of the data was performed using qualitative techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that there are geometric concepts in the structure of the Dori Mpulor Traditional House, which include the positioning of two lines on a plane (parallel lines, intersecting lines), angles (opposite angles, supplementary angles, right angles, and acute angles), gradients, congruency (line segments, angles, polygons), polygon similarity, triangles (equilateral and right triangles), circles, cylinders, parallelograms, and trapezoids. In conclusion, the study of geometric concepts in the Dori Mpulor Traditional House can be implemented as learning material, giving educators the freedom to create quality learning experiences tailored to students' needs within a real context, so that students gain enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences. Abstract

This research aims to find out how the application approach influences students' ability to solve mathematical problems using algebra material. The differentiation approach used is process differentiation. This research uses a quantitative research approach with experimental methods in class VII Budisatrya Private Middle School. This research sample consisted of two groups, namely the experimental group VII-2, 25 students who used a differentiation approach, and the control group, Class VII-1, 25 students who used the conventional approach. This research design uses Pretest – Posttest Control Group Design. Research data was collected through mathematical problem solving ability tests both at the pre-test and post-test stages. The results of the analysis using the Independent Sample t Test with the IBM SPSS program showed results with one-sided and two-sided significance of p<0.001, which means that students who used the process differentiation approach were better at solving mathematical problems compared to students who used the conventional approach. In simple terms, the use of the process differentiation approach has a significant influence on students' ability to solve mathematical problems in algebraic material. Abstract

21st century skills are termed the 4C which stands for Critical Thinking, Collaboration , Communication, and Creativity. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe students' mathematical communication skills in solving SPLDV story problems. This type of research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach to describe students' mathematical communication skills in solving SPLDV problems based on extroverted and introverted personality types. The subjects in this study were 2 students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Palu in the academic year 2023/2024 consisting of one student each with extroverted personality type and one student with introverted personality type. The conclusion of this study shows that students with extroverted personalities tend to be more active in communicating mathematical ideas verbally, while introverted students focus more on systematic written communication. Both personality types have different ways of solving SPLDV problems, but are able to achieve good solutions according to their respective abilities. Abstract

An understanding of Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD) cognitive styles is important for teachers because these two styles affect the way students understand and process information, which ultimately has an impact on the effectiveness of learning. This study aimed to build a decision tree model to map the cognitive style of students based on errors that students make in solving algebra problems according to Newman's error theory. The method used in this study was a quantitative approach with the ID3 algorithm in decision tree modeling. The instruments used include the GEFT test to identify students' cognitive style and the basic algebra ability test containing 6 aspects of algebra ability according to Lew, i.e. generalization, abstraction, analytical thinking, dynamic thinking, modeling, and organization. The decision tree model was built based on the errors made by students according to Newman's error theory. The results showed that the decision tree generated from algebra problems in the generalization aspect had an accuracy of 82.5%. This decision tree has a main attribute in the form of process skill errors, which can map the cognitive style of students as FI or FD. This decision tree formed three implication rules, which became the basis for classifying the cognitive style of students. This finding was expected to be a guide for teachers in designing a more adaptive and efficient learning strategy with an approach that is on the cognitive style of students to improve students' algebraic thinking ability. Keywords: Cognitive Style, Algebraic Thinking Ability, Decision Tree, Newman's Error Theory
