Abstract

This research aims to describe the mathematical problem solving abilities in relation and function material for class VIII students at SMP Negeri 6 Palu. This type of research is qualitative research. The research subjects were three students from 32 class VIII F students. Students were grouped into three categories, namely high ability students, medium ability students and low ability students. Each category is represented by one student. The results of this research are (1) Subjects with high abilities can understand problems, plan solutions, solve problems but the subjects do not carry out re-examination. (2) Subjects with moderate abilities can understand the problem, are still lacking in planning solutions, cannot solve the problem and the subject cannot carry out re-examination. (3) Subjects with low abilities cannot fulfill all the problem solving indicators used in the research.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of algebraic problem solving of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sigi in terms of learning style. The method used in this study is qualitative research. The results of this study describe the profile of algebraic problem solving of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sigi based on learning style. Subjects with a structured learning style (SV) explain information in depth and in an organized manner, plan problem solving by changing verbal sentences into mathematical sentences, and re-check their reasons carefully. Subjects with a more open learning style (SA) explain information longer, plan and solve problems in a similar way, but do not check their explanations, resulting in errors. Meanwhile, subjects with a less structured learning style (SK) write information in a less organized manner, but still plan and solve problems with the right steps, and re-check the results. Overall, this study shows that learning style influences the way students understand, plan, and re-check algebraic problem solving. Keywords: Algebraic Form, Learning Style, Problem Solving.

Abstract

This study aims to find the estimation profile in solving junior high school students' numeracy problems based on learning styles. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach that aims to provide an overview of the estimation process in solving students' numeracy problems based on learning styles. The results of this study indicate that visual learning styles in understanding, planning and implementing problem-solving plans still tend to calculate procedurally and do not utilize estimation strategies. In contrast to auditory learning style subjects in understanding problems, planning and implementing problem-solving plans have used estimation strategies, and in re-checking work, this learning style subject first uses calculations by making scribbles before concluding the truth of the explanation. For kinesthetic learning styles in understanding problems, planning and implementing problem-solving plans have utilized estimation strategies very well in getting their answers. This learning style in getting answers uses more and more varied estimation strategies compared to other learning style subjects. In re-checking the truth of the explanation, this learning style uses more scribbles before concluding the truth of the explanation compared to auditory and visual learning style subjects. In addition, this learning style subject makes good use of the calculation skills that they have to get their answers. In conclusion, learning style is related to the ability to solve numeracy problems, kinesthetic learning style has more answers and varies the use of estimation strategies compared to other learning style subjects Keywords: Estimation, Problem Solving, Learning Styles

Abstract

Permasalahan dalam pengembangan media pembelajaran Aksara Lontara Bahasa Makassar untuk siswa sekolah dasar yang menggunakan animasi motion graphic berbasis multimedia adalah bahwa selama ini pembelajaran Aksara Lontara di sekolah masih mengandalkan buku dan belum tersedianya media pembelajaran interaktif yang mendukung proses belajar. Kondisi ini menyebabkan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajari Aksara Lontara. Solusi atas permasalahan ini adalah pengembangan media pembelajaran Aksara Lontara dengan menggunakan Animasi Motion Graphic, yang diharapkan dapat memfasilitasi proses pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan dan mengimplementasikan media pembelajaran Aksara Lontara Bahasa Makassar dengan Animasi Motion Graphic berbasis multimedia di SDN Paccerakkang. Data diperoleh melalui penelitian lapangan, penelitian pustaka, dan wawancara. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode ADDIE, yang terdiri dari lima tahapan: Analisis, Perancangan, Pengembangan, Implementasi, dan Evaluasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan mendapatkan persentase keberhasilan sebesar 76,66% dari pengujian alpha oleh ahli materi dan ahli budaya, yang termasuk dalam kategori layak. Sementara itu, persentase total dari pengujian beta yang dilakukan dengan memberikan kuesioner kepada siswa SDN Paccerakkang adalah 80,13%, juga termasuk dalam kategori layak.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the types of errors and the contributing factors in solving final semester mathematics exam questions among Grade VIII junior high school (JHS) students. This is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. Data on errors were collected from the Final Semester Examination (FSE) results and through in-depth interviews with 28 Grade VIII JHS students in Palu City during the 2022/2023 academic year. Based on the analysis of five tested topics, number patterns, Cartesian coordinates, relations and functions, linear equations, and systems of linear equations in two variables, it was found that the most frequent errors were conceptual errors, particularly in the topics of Cartesian coordinates and linear equations. The main factors contributing to these errors include students’ inability to determine and apply appropriate formulas, as well as limited competency in performing calculation operations.

Abstract

Cognitive style is one of the factors that affect the way individuals understand, process, and solve problems. The purpose of this study is to obtain an overview of students who have Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles in solving algebraic function derivative problems. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The results of the study show that there are differences in FD and FI subjects in solving problems of derivative algebraic functions. FD and FI subjects can identify information from the problem in full and formulate and construct mathematical models based on the information and reasoning made, but FD subjects do not provide reasons for spelling. The FD subject did not use the settlement strategy correctly, and in the settlement process there were still procedural errors such as errors in performing algebraic manipulation, writing the mark of the calculation operation, and the differentiation process, so that the stationary point and the maximum volume of the aquarium were not correct, while the FI subject used the settlement strategy with the correct steps and calculations so that it succeeded in obtaining the maximum volume of the aquarium. Although it has not been able to prove that the stationary point obtained is the maximum value. FD and FI subjects were able to conclude the results of the settlement orally, but the FD subjects did not write the conclusions on the answer sheet. FI subjects rechecked the answers, while FD subjects did not recheck. FD subjects tend to be less thorough in solving problems derivative from algebraic functions and less reflective in examining the results of the solution, while FI subjects show independence, precision, and the ability to formulate solving steps so that they can successfully obtain the right answers.

Abstract

Mathematical connection ability needs to be analyzed so that teachers can get an overview of students' mathematical connection abilities and develop learning strategies to improve students' mathematical connection abilities. This study explores the mathematical connection abilities of class XI MAN 2 Kota Palu students in solving HOTS arithmetic sequence problems. The type of research is qualitative and uses student interview results as data. The results of this research show that mathematical connections high-ability students demonstrate strong connections between arithmetic series and algebra, exponents, and roots, and apply these concepts in real-life and economic contexts. Moderately skilled students link arithmetic sequences to algebra but struggle with economic connections. Low-ability students face challenges linking mathematical concepts, applying arithmetic series to daily life, and connecting it with economics. Understanding these abilities helps teachers tailor strategies to enhance students' mathematical connections, aiding their problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memperoleh deskripsi pemahaman konseptual pecahan siswa SMP kelas VII bergaya kognitif FI dan FD. Untuk mendapatkan data pemahaman konseptual pecahan siswa bergaya kognitif FI dan FD digunakan tes tertulis dan wawancara tidak terstruktur. Analisis data mengacu pada yang dikembangkan oleh Miles, Huberman dan Saladana (2014), yaitu condensation data, display data dan drawing and verifying conclusion. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa siswa FI dan siswa FD melakukan penjumlahan pecahan biasa yang berpenyebut tidak sama dengan menyamakan penyebut menggunakan KPK, kemudian menyelesaikan menggunakan konsep penjumlahan pecahan berpenyebut sama. Dalam menyamakan penyebut, siswa FI langsung mengalikan penyebut kedua pecahan, sedangkan siswa FD terlebih dahulu mencari faktor dari masing-masing penyebut lalu mengalikan faktor-faktor tersebut.
