Abstract

The objective of this action-based research is to improve the students’ ability in writing narrativeand descriptive paragraphs by implementing self-evaluation in Traditional Paper-based Instructioncombined with the Electronic Portfolio. The research was conducted based on the prior observation,interview and pre-test conducted in the second semester (2D) of English Education Department,Language and Art Faculty of Undiksha in the academic year of 2006/2007. This study involved29 subjects who has problem in writing the paragraphs. At first, the students were really dependingon the lecturer, had less self-confidence and view the work subjectively. However, as they weregiven the treatment, their self-confidence was getting improved (independence). Moreover, theylearned how to take a risk, open, honest and judge the work objectively. More or less, it influencestheir achievement in writing the paragraphs. It can be seen from the improvement of the averagescore which is 25,67 (fair) in the pre-test, 32.17 (good) during the post-test 1 and 36.69 (very good)in post-test 2. The students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph was better than narrative onebecause they learnt from their experience in narrative. Abstract

ABSTRACT Momotaro: Umi no Shinpei must be identified as Japanese propaganda movie for world war 2 in 1945. All research always analysis on Japanese propaganda in Asia, particularly southeast asia. Through this research, the movie will be rechanged all about point of view about propaganda movie, which is the movie is a movie that is loaded with character education, such as cooperation, courage, responsibility, hard work, and creative. Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to describe the formulas found in Kambing Jantan diary. The employed approach is textual analysis. The data unit is in form of the text collected by documenting method. The data is analyzed by explaining, comparing, relating, sorting, or combining with popular literary theory. From the previously completed analysis, Kambing Jantan diary has several formulas to construct itself as a comedy novel. The formulas are deployed in the diction (use of language), the topic of discussion selection, and the behavior of the characters. The type of humor is personal humor. By the use of bombastic slang, Kambing Jantan becomes a favorite kind of the new among the readers. In relation to this, the humor that is offered in Kambing Jantan tends to present itself as its function as a means of entertainment.Keywords: formula, humor, comedy, diary

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca (baik membaca pemahaman maupun membaca nyaring) siswa SMP Kelas VIII A di SMPN 1 Kubutambahan melalui materi bacaan berbasis TIK. Penelitian ini tergolong Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini menggunakan model siklus Penelitian Tindakan dari Kemmis & Taggart (1988) dan dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri atas perencanaan, implementasi, observasi dan refleksi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, angket, wawancara dan tes membaca serta dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa materi bacaan berbasis TIK bisa meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa secara signifikan baik kemampuan membaca pemahaman maupun kemampuan membaca nyaring.Kata kunci: kemampuan membaca, materi bacaan berbasis TIK.

Abstract

The study aimed at designing and developing an instructional media based on interactive multimedia on the topic of motion graphic on the subject of “Animation 1” as well as finding out the students’ responses towards the instructional media. This study utilized a research and development design based on CIIP method (Context, Input, Process and Product). The data were obtained by distributing questionnaires in product testing by media experts, content experts, individuals, small groups, and field trial. The data were analyzed descriptive quantitatively in order to obtain score data. This instructional media consists of three main dimensions, like introduction, main, and exit. The percentage score of media experts’ trial was about 87.50% and qualified as “Good”. The percentage score of content experts’ trial was about 80% and qualified as “Good”. The percentage score of individuals’ trial was about 77.67% and qualified as “Adequate”. The percentage score of small groups’ trial was about 81.80% and qualified as “Good”. The percentage score of field trial was about 80.97% and qualified as “Good”. The percentage score of students’ response through questionnaire was about 83.84% and qualified as “Good”. Finally, this instructional media would be used to teach “Animation 1” course in 2017. Key words: Interactive Multimedia, Animation, Undiksha  ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan struktur berita advertorial mengenai perguruan tinggi di harian Bali Post dan mendeskripsikan citra perguruan tinggi yang dikonstruksi dalam berita-berita advertorial di Bali Post.Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode analisis framing yang dikemukakan Pan dan Kosicki (1993). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah berita-berita advertorial dalam harian Bali Post. Sementara itu, objek penelitian ini adalah konstruksi citra perguruan tinggi melalui berita advertorial dalam harian Bali Post.  Simpulan penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, struktur berita advertorial perguruan tinggi sesuai dengan elemen struktur berita yang meliputi elemen sintaksis, skrip, tematik, dan retoris. Namun, dalam berita yang dianalisis, tidak ditemukan berita yang mengandung elemen skrip yang lengkap. Hanya ditemukan lima elemen dari enam elemen skrip yang ada. Kedua, citra perguruan tinggi yang dikonstruksi dalam berita-berita advertorial di harian Bali Post  adalah 1) citra perguruan tinggi yang modern dan berbasis teknologi; 2) berkualitas dari segi visi insitusi, pengajar, sarana – prasarana, kurikulum standar nasional; 3) kualitas lulusan yang baik sehingga siap bekerja dan bersaing secara global; 4) perguruan tinggi yang ramah dan membentuk karakter mahasiswa; dan 5) perguruan tinggi memiliki kerja sama yang bermanfaat praktis dan pragmatis dalam pengembangan kualitas maupun kesempatan kerja lulusan. Kata Kunci: advertorial, analisis framing, analisis wacana

Abstract

This study was conducted as an attempt to investigate in what step of scientific approach theteachers most frequently use translation in English Language Teaching as well as to find out the teachers’reasons toward the use of translation in English Language Teaching based on scientific approach atSMP Negeri 4 Singaraja and SMP Negeri 5 Singaraja. It was conducted in qualitative research design.There were two teachers chosen as the subjects of study. The data were collected through audio recordingthe teaching and learning process and interviewing the subjects of study, while the techniques ofanalyzing data were done descriptively following the four processes according to the theory of Miles &Huberman (1984), namely: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Theresults of analysis indicated that the teachers most frequently used translation in exploring step of scientificapproach. In addition, there were seven teachers’ reasons found in relation to the use of translationin the classroom, namely to help the students’ difficulty in: (1) understanding the instruction given bythe teacher, (2) understanding the English vocabulary, (3) asking something in English, (4) understandingthe tenses or grammar, (5) understanding the material deeply, (6) doing the task, and (7) presentingtheir work. The related parties interested in the same area of the research should give deeper concern indoing wider range of aspects involved in further study.Keywords : Translation, the Use of L1 in ELT, Scientific Approach

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas tentang pelestarian kearifan lokal Bali melalui konservasi naskah lon-tar, dimana naskah lontar merupakan salah satu warisan budaya yang patut dilestarikan keberadaannya sehingga nantinya dapat dinikmati oleh generasi yang akan datang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah me-nyelamatkan dan melestarikan naskah-naskah lontar Bali dalam bentuk konservasi naskah lontar. Peneli-tian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan teknik observasi. Adapun proses pelestarian naskah lon-tar dapat dilakukan dengan menyelamatkan sumber data kearifan lokal yang terekam dalam manuskrip (tulisan tangan) pada lontar dengan cara membersihkan naskah lontar serta menyusunnya menjadi sat-uan yang utuh serta menginventarisasi pengetahuan kearifan lokal yang tersaji pada manuskrip, dimana naskah-naskah lontar yang telah dikonservasi diklasifikasikan menjadi kelompok weda, agama, wariga, itihasa, babad serta tantri. Mengelompokkan jenis kearifan lokal Bali yang tersaji dalam naskah lontar menurut tujuh unsur kebudayaan yaitu bahasa, sistem pengetahuan, sistem kemasyarakatan/ organisasi sosial, sistem peralatan hidup dan teknologi, sistem mata pencarian hidup, sistem religi dan kesenian.

Abstract

In Japanese language, there are various greeting expressions according to the situation or season. Japanese people greet each other in many different ways depending on the relationship you have with the person you are greeting. Japanese can be roughly separated into three levels of politeness; casual, polite, and honorific/humble. Social status of speaker and listener should be considered. Japanese expressions are sometimes have difficulty to find a equivalent into Indonesian language. Therefore, to avoid language of mistakes , it is necessary to know how to use the Japanese expression correctly especially to Japanese learners. This research is the analysis of how to say greeting, thank you, apology expressions in Japanese and how the meaning of an expression of Japanese Language in the novel Norwey no Mori by Haruki Murakami. The method that used in this research is descriptive method. In analyzed form and the meaning of Japanese expressions, writer used Pateda theory (2001) and based on the concept of Edizal (2001), which analyzed how to equivalent the meaning of Japanese expression into Indonesian Language. The research result in novel Norwey no Mori by Haruki Murakami shows the usage of greeting or daily Japanese expressions are Chotto, Anata, Watashi, Iie (iya/uun), Wakaru dan wakaranai, Taihen, Anou, Sukoshi, Sayounara, Moshimoshi, Okagede, Kekkou. And the expressions for saying thank you and apology are Daijoubu, Arigatou, Gomennasai, Doumo. The data are then analyzed how to equivalent the meaning of Japanese expressions into Indonesian language based on formal, informal situation and Japanese cultural.
