Abstract

Background: Nigeria's music industry attracts young minds, particularly Afrobeat, a popular West African music genre. Nigeria is a hub for Afrobeat with lyrics and videos which significantly influence adolescents' behaviour, emotions, and world perception. Aim: This study aimed to assess and to explore the relationship between Afrobeat music and drug abuse in Nigeria. Setting: A total of 200 music undergraduates’ students and 4 music experts from 6 different universities (University of Jos (North Central); University of Maiduguri, Borno State (North-East); Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna (Northwest); University of Nigeria, Nsukka (South East); University of Benin (South South); and University of Lagos (South West). Methods: The study adopted a mixed method approach, coupling quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The population included 200 music students and five music and lyrics analysts from various universities. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire, while qualitative data was collected through observation and interview guides. Pilot testing was conducted to ensure the instruments were relevant, unbiased, and appropriate for the study context and participants. Quantitative and thematic analysis was conducted. Results: Results indicate that Afrobeat music in Nigeria may promote drug abuse, with 77% of lyrics, videos, and lifestyles featuring drug-related content. This can influence youth attitudes and behaviors towards drugs. The mediating influence of ethnic identity and substance use among young adults is also examined, with the glamorization of drug use potentially promoting or discouraging substance abuse. Conclusion: Despite the efforts of previous researchers, this study observes a gap in the area of guidelines for airing offensive, vulgar, or inappropriate content, including explicit lyrics, violence promotion, or harmful societal content (such as glamourizing and normalizing drug use and abuse).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the needs of Android-based guidance and counseling service evaluation instruments at Man 2 Makassar City, designing Android-based guidance and counseling service evaluation instruments at Man 2 Makassar City. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model. Data collection was carried out using a Likert scale questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that an evaluation instrument is needed, and there is a need for a special instrument that can be used practically and efficiently. This instrument was developed in the form of an Android application with active menus for activities, progress, and home. The expert assessment of Content Expert 1 obtained a percentage of 77.6% (quite valid). Content Expert 2 obtained a percentage of 78.9% (quite valid). According to the media expert, the result is 86.11% which is included in the criteria very valid. Then based on the overall counselor guidance teacher assessment, this instrument obtained a score of 78.7% which means it is practical to use. In addition, the student assessment resulted in a score of 76.4% which indicates practicality to use.

Abstract

This research is an experimental study that uses a Quasi Experimental approach which aims to describe the effect of the Problem Based Learning learning model on problem solving skills in terms of mathematical self-efficacy of MTs Nuhiyah Pambusuang. The population in this study were all seventh grades students of 2023/2024schools year , composed of 4 classes and the research sample were class VIIA with the Problem Based Learning model in pairs and VIID with the Problem Based Learning models in groups. Data collection techniques used pre-tests and post-tests to measure students ' problem solving abilities before and after applied the model and questionnaires related to students' self-efficacy. The data analysis techniques used ANAKOVA. The results of the study showed the Problem Based Learning model had an effect on students ' mathematical problem-solving skills as seen from the significant differences between pretest and posttest results and the gain in problem solving skills were in the medium category . However , the average gain value of problem-solving abilities of Problem Based Learning model in pairs is higher than the Problem Based Learning models in groups . In addition , Self-Efficacy had no effect on the problem-solving abilities of seventh grades of MTs Nuhiyah Pambusuang.

Abstract

This study delves into the digital literacy and competencies of Library and Information Science (LIS) students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Employing a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design, data were gathered from 68 participants via a structured questionnaire on Google Survey. The questionnaire, using a 4-point Likert scale, covered demographic details, digital literacy levels, perceived curriculum effectiveness, impacts of pedagogical methods, identified barriers, and suggested improvement strategies. Analysis through descriptive statistics provided understandings into the digital proficiency of LIS students. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were used to assess normality. The Mann-Whitney U test examines differences between independent groups since the data violate normality assumptions and inform whether to accept or reject null hypotheses based on chosen significance levels. Results highlighted the expectations for LIS students to excel in digital libraries, archiving, system software, and communication. However, varying curriculum effectiveness was noted, influenced by accreditation standards and faculty expertise. Pedagogical methods such as hands-on learning and collaborative projects were found to enhance digital competencies, despite existing barriers like funding limitations and rigid curricula. The study advocates for curriculum enhancements, innovative pedagogy, and strategic interventions to bolster digital literacy in LIS programs.
