Abstract

The development of technology has influenced English teachers and students to improve their abilities in utilizing the technology in the teaching and learning process. Teachers have strong demand to utilize the information technology from the Internet as medium in the application of classroom teaching process. Because the use of technology has an important role as teaching and learning aid, Video cast is proposed to solve some problems encountered in the teaching of listening skill. The preliminary study conducted at building school, showed that the ability of the students in listening skills such as note taking, finding main ideas, finding detail information, and summarizing is still far from what was expected by the curriculum. To solve these problems, the researcher used Video cast as an instructional medium by implementing three steps in the teaching of listening, i.e. pre-listening, whilst-listening, and post-listening activities. This study utilized a collaborative action research design in which the researcher and the collaborative teacher worked together in designing the lesson plan, implementing the action, observing the action, and making reflection. The activities performed in the pre-listening step using Video cast were: giving explanation about the objective and assigned tasks, showing students the video screen, finding some important words, brainstorming on the topic learnt, setting the students into groups of five, and giving models of expression. In whilstlistening, the activities were: playing an English Video cast while doing note taking and discussing the main idea of the topic, playing again the Video cast while continuing the note taking activity and then discussing for finding detail information and summarizing, asking students’ opinion and then checking and discussing their answers. Post-listening activities were conducted by reviewing on the grammatical/structural rules and asking students’ feedback. As extensive listening, the follow-up activities were conducted by asking students to listen two new topics downloaded from the internet and then answering the worksheets about note taking, finding main ideas, finding detail information, and summarizing for each meeting.

Abstract

This article explains the philosophical view of progressivism about learners. Progressive philosophy sees that education is not just transferring knowledge to learners, but training their abilities and skills by providing the right stimulus. In the field of education, this philosophy was pioneered by the educational leader, John Dewey, with the main jargon of education as an instrument of social reconstruction. Progressive philosophy has the principle that learners should be educated to be human beings who can understand life in the future. For that, learners should be allowed to be free, active, creativity, and dynamic in accordance with the context of life.

Despite having different economic doctrines, capitalism, Marxism, and Islamic Economics share and maximize utilization of the nature in their doctrines. The three doctrines agree the importance of these objectives, as well as in the realization according to the lines of each doctrine. Economical Sociology studies many complex activities that involve production, distribution, exchange, and consumption of goods and services hardly found within communities, which focuses on economic activities, and the relationship among sociological variables involved in non-economic context. Concept of production in Islamic economics is always based on the philosophy of Islamic economics itself. Islamic economics philosophy provides spirit to the value of Islamic teaching and to production factors. These factors of production are: manpower, capital, natural resources, and skills/technology. The production concept in Islamic economics especially for capital factor is based on mudharabah and profit sharing. In the other side, conventional economics is based on interest using loans from conventional bank to finance production activities. Thus, production activities should be based on muamalah principles, such as tawhid, khilafah and ‘adl.

Ramadan fasting is a mandatory worship for the faithful both men and women as well as past and later ones. Fasting during Ramadan that Allah prescribes in the Quran has a certain meaning and purpose. This paper will explain the meaning of the word Ramadan and the purpose of fasting, and the meanings associated with the words ‘knowledge’ (‘ilm) described in the verses of the Quran and the Hadis of the Prophet Muhammad. This paper also aims to know about the religiosity and degrees (maqamat) that can be gained by faithful associated with worship based on knowledge. In addition, in the conduct of worship, a person needs knowledge. People who are knowledgeable and faithful will be given a higher degree by God because the knowledgeable people will obey and submit to God. Thus, it can be concluded that faith, knowledge, and worship are triangles whose sides connect and fill one another and are inseparable. Acts of kindness, noble character (amal shalih) has done by the faithful and knowledgeable can lead him to achieve the predicate of takwa as the highest degree.

Abstract

Trustee education programs should allow for self-direction and be customized to the schedules, needs, and preferred learning styles of individual trustees. While there is a common core of knowledge that all trustees should have, different trustees will select what they need to learn and will learn it in different ways. So, a variety of opportunities should be available, although all approaches should include time to discuss questions, principles, and applications. Right education leads to refinement of conduct. With refinement of behaviour, one’s life gets sublimated. Good intellect alone can lead happiness which is the source of peace. Proper education brings about association with good people. The company of the good is peace itself. Teachers are like guideposts. It is only when you play this role well that you will have done your duty by the boys and girls to divinise their lives. Although secular education may appear necessary for mundane existence, the importance of a spiritual basis for it should be recognised. However, the responsibility for imparting a spiritual orientation to education rests not only on teachers, but also on the parents as well as the authorities.
