The final result of SWARA technique and expert opinions in assessing the factors of SCQM systems in the industry showed that Quality Strategies in Supply Chain were detected in the first rank as the most important factor, and Process Approach was detected in the lowest rank. In following, the relationship and sequence of factors were determined with Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modelling (FISM). The final result of FISM approach showed that the factors are levelled in five levels. So that Supply Chain Quality Information Systems and Quality Strategies in Supply Chain placed in the first level. Such Process Approach placed in the fifth level. Abstract

This research delved at describing the slipper industry in the so called footwear capital of the North in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, the “Gapan City”. The study was anchored on the Value Chain Analysis Framework by Michael Porter. It utilized descriptive research design and involved 46 slipper manufacturers as respondents. The researchers particularly focused on the industry’s business operation in terms of inputs provision, production, marketing, cost and return analysis, prospects, problems and constraints of the slipper industry.  The study revealed that raw materials were mostly from China. Worker turnover rate was high, since they were underpaid. Pricing methods employed were cost–based, penetration and customer–based pricing. The prime geographical markets of the manufactured slippers were in the City of Gapan and other nearby regions. Many of the slipper manufacturers relied on credit extended by suppliers and other financing and financial institutions, hence causing shrinkage in income. Although this business is profitable, imported slippers from other countries still haunt local slipper manufacturers which were directly competing with their products. The industry is at a standstill because of its current state enables them to harness full potentials of the product both in local and international market.  Nueva

Abstract

Supplier selection criteria are of importance in supplier selection because of their impact on the input materials and production progress of purchasers. However, there is a dearth of researches on a well-designed and validated questionnaire to assess supplier selection criteria for textile and apparel sector in general and for Vietnamese textile and apparel industry in particular. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a questionnaire to assess those criteria with their level of importance. An integrated approach of qualitative and quantitative was employed in the study. First, the qualitative approach involving purposeful sampling and theoretical sampling was used to explore what supplier selection criteria Vietnamese textile and apparel companies were utilizing after the literature on supplier selection criteria had been reviewed. Next, a prequestionnaire was built and sent to some practitioners and experts for their revision. Then, a pilot survey of 31 companies was conducted in Vietnamese textile and apparel companies to determine the supplier selection criteria that are best suited for Vietnamese textile and apparel companies. Numerous statistical tests were conducted to validate the results which will be a good contribution to the selection process of textile and apparel companies, especially Vietnamese companies. They can utilize the questionnaire as a tool to set their supplier selection criteria.
