Abstract

Food security is one of the non-traditional security components that forms the basic needs of a nation, households, and individuals. Any problem in food supply or disruption in any of the four key elements of food security will threaten security and well-being of the citizens. In Malaysia, although food availability is ensured through via local production and imports at national level, accessibility and utilization are not yet fulfilled as certain groups and households are still unable to access and utilise adequate food accordingly. Therefore, this research attempts to examine the socioeconomic factors that may contribute towards food insecurity among Malaysian households within communities in Malaysia-Thailand border using human security approach. This study is conducted using qualitative research method to collect and analyse both primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through official documents and an in-depth interview with key informants among Malaysian households of the communities near Malaysia-Thailand border, local leaders and academicians. Meanwhile, the secondary source of data was obtained from published materials and online documents such as books, journal articles and reports. The findings indicate that socioeconomic factors were pertinent in contributing towards food insecurity among the households in form of household income, insufficient assistance program, and high living costs. These factors form the main foundation in ensuring the sanctity and wellbeing of the households. In designing state policies, the socioeconomic issues should be prioritized as in ensuring human security of the vulnerable groups, specifically the B40 households. In addition, continuous effort in developing societal empowerment and resilience are vital to achieve citizen wellbeing.

Abstract

Due to intense competition and dynamism in the environment the concept of psychological diversity has attracted the attention of many researchers. Earlier, the concept of surface level diversity has gained the attraction of many researchers but now slowly and gradually psychological diversity i.e. learning style diversity has gained attention. Based on the available literature, it is implied that learning style of the individual influences the different stages of the team learning process. It has been analyzed that due to advancement in technology and transformation in logistics industry, diversity at workplace has become a key priority for the logistics and supply chain management industry. People from diverse background such as driver, planners, warehouse operators etc. are performing the job. It has been analyzed that logistic companies mange relation globally and so the level of diversity is very high in logistic industry. According to available literature, the relationship between learning diversity and the different stages of the learning process was examined and authors were interested to explore the relationship between different variables. Abstract

Although India has third largest economic growth,it can be much faster if we had an ideal tax system which collects taxes at different stages of manufacture, supply, wholesale, retailing and final consumption. These tax paid at different stages is not on the entire price but only on the value added. Keeping this in mind a new taxation system known as Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in India, in order to remove the previous tax system which misses lead things and slower the economic growth. Due to the new introduction of the taxation system, many sectors of business were affected. Multinational Companies (MNCs) also faced changes.Import-export of MNCs, Customs duty application on MNCs and various effects on various MNCs are the things covered in this paper

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions regarding shipping companies corporate image and reputation in Republic of Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand. For this study, the shipping industry is confined to the bulk and container shipping sectors to prevent confusion arising from the different sectors. An international questionnaire survey was administered in each country. The participants were asked to report their perceptions on eight indicators of corporate image and seven indicators of corporate reputation relating to the shipping companies. Descriptive analyses and a one-way between-groups analysis of variance (ANOVA) were conducted using SPSS 20. Findings show that there are significant differences in perceptions concerning corporate image and reputation among four countries. Some cases show significant differences in the analyses in line with demographic characteristics. While China shows the highest scores in most variables, Korea is revealed to have the lowest scores. The results indicate the need to develop programs for improving the external positive perceptions of the shipping companies, as well as to broaden the scope of marketing activities targeting the general public. This study is of critical importance as it discusses relatively ignored but important issues by conducting comparative research in four major Asian countries comprehensively, particularly targeting samples rarely considered in the empirical shipping-related studies despite their significance to academic development. Further research is required to demonstrate the effectiveness of the findings by applying the measures in different national contexts with a more diverse group of samples.

Abstract

Regarding the significance and role of fuel materials in growth of industries, and considering the point that the transportation of these products is always encountered with risk and has its own dangers, and also given the increasing importance and applicability of combined transport (multimodal) in various industries and the prominent role of this type of transportation in the supply chain, in this research, first a bi-objective mathematical model is presented for location-routing the hazardous materials transport considering the weight of materials loaded. In this model, the objective cost function including transportation costs, construction of multimodal transportation terminal (for movement of the type of transport vehicle), and also the risk of transportation of hazardous materials, are minimized. Then, using precise solving methods and using the NSGA II algorithm, the proposed model is solved. After assessment of solving methods, the best solving method is chosen and the model is solved based on the real information received from the Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company. In this research, the problems were divided into three small, medium and large groups, and for each of the solving methods, the evaluation criteria were calculated. The results of this comparison indicated that the non-dominated optimization algorithm outperforms the exact solving method. Therefore, it was concluded that this algorithm should be used to solve the model of real data. Likewise, to ensure the performance of this algorithm, the sensitivity analysis of the model was conducted and it was indicated that by changing the parameters of the model, this algorithm gives the expected results and thus its structural performance is confirmed. Finally, the proposed model indicated how the amount of the carried load of hazardous materials is related to a location-routing problem.
