Abstract

Forests contribute as important capital in national development with various strategic functions in the ecological, economic, and socio-cultural fields. In East Java Province, forest area management not only aims to preserve the environment, but also to improve the welfare of the community around the forest through the sustainable use of forest products. This management involves various stakeholders, including the Forestry Service (DISHUT), Perum Perhutani, and other related agencies. Synergy between stakeholders is needed to optimize the contribution of the forestry sub-sector to regional development, especially in supporting the preparation of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) which reflects the real economic value of forest products. Therefore, mapping the roles between stakeholders is important in creating effective and sustainable forestry governance in East Java. This study aims to analyze the role of stakeholders in the calculation of the GDP of the forestry sub-sector in East Java Province. This research uses a mixed method. The data sources for this study came from 4 informants and 61 respondents. The analysis was carried out quantitatively-descriptively and qualitatively through interactive models and role analysis. The results show that each stakeholder has a diverse role in the calculation of the GDP of the forestry sub-sector. The Forestry Service and BAPPEDA are the main actors (Key Players), while Perum Perhutani and BPS play the role of strategic supporters (Subjects). Inter-stakeholder collaboration is key to strengthening the real contribution of the forestry sector to regional economic development and sustainable forest management.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are high potential leguminous crops whose productivity can be enhanced through the use of local microorganism (MOL) solutions derived from banana waste. This study evaluated the effects of MOL solutions from banana corm, stem, and peel on green bean growth and yield. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments and ten replications. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and significant differences were further examined using the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at 5% significance. Results showed that all MOL treatments significantly increased the number of pods per plant, while other growth parameters including plant height, number of branches, flowering and harvest age, pod length, and fresh pod weight were not significantly affected. Among the treatments, the MOL solution from banana peel was the most effective, demonstrating its potential as an organic biofertilizer for improving green bean yield. Keywords : banana, beans, local microorganism solutions.

Abstract

Public perception plays an important role in the success of mangrove planting activities. The community interacts directly with the mangrove ecosystem, so their perceptions will influence whether or not they will support and participate in planting activities. This study aims to determine the community's perceptions of mangrove planting activities in Sepatin Village, Mahakam Delta. The main data in this study were obtained through interviews. Interviews were conducted with 50 respondents who were selected purposively based on their involvement in mangrove planting activities. The research aspects consisted of four categories, namely knowledge, perception, participation, and future expectations. The data in this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented in the form of diagrams and percentages. The results of the study show that 98% of respondents are aware of the mangrove planting activities carried out in Sepatin Village. The community has a very positive response to the planting activities, with 68% strongly agreeing and 32% agreeing with the activities. Mangrove planting activities have a positive impact on increasing fish catches and improving environmental quality. Several things need to be improved in mangrove planting activities, namely the need to involve the community in the planning and implementation of activities and to raise public awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems. Another thing that needs to be improved is the expectation that the government will provide adequate facilities and training for the community to support and enrich their knowledge on how to manage and utilize mangroves sustainably.

Abstract

The continuous conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural uses in Parepare City has substantially reduced productive farmland and generated various socio-economic impacts on local communities. This phenomenon is a critical issue as it threatens local food security, alters employment structures, and affects household welfare, particularly among farmers. This study aims to: (1) analyze land-use changes resulting from agricultural land conversion, (2) identify the economic impacts arising from the conversion, (3) examine its effects on the community’s economic structure, and (4) explain the social consequences that emerge as a result of these changes. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, supported by Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) to map the relationships and levels of influence among the affected socio-economic factors. The findings indicate that the most influential factors driving socio-economic change are access to infrastructure, natural resources, and education. Economically, land conversion has led to shifts in livelihoods, changes in income levels, and a decline in household purchasing power among farmers. Socially, community cooperation has weakened, and changes in social structures have become evident. In conclusion, agricultural land conversion has significant implications for the socio-economic conditions of communities in Parepare City. This study highlights the need for sustainable spatial planning policies, improved non-agricultural skills development, and strengthened economic and educational literacy to support community adaptation to ongoing land-use changes. Abstract

Climate change poses a growing threat to global coffee production, while agroforestry systems are increasingly recognized for their ecological and economic benefits, including their potential to enhance carbon sequestration. This study aimed to analyze the carbon stock of the Gayo coffee agroforestry system in Bener Meriah Regency. Field data were collected using a purposive sampling approach based on canopy density and accessibility, covering 16 plots measured between July and September 2024. Carbon estimation was conducted using the RaCSA method developed by ICRAF. The results show that Gayo coffee agroforestry represents a complex system with diverse plant species contributing to carbon storage. The highest carbon stock is recorded for Petai (Parkia speciosa) at 28.98 ton C/ha, while the lowest occurs in red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) at 0.034 ton C/ha. The total measured carbon stock reaches 2,115.072 ton C, with an average of 124.416 ton C/ha. These findings demonstrate that the Gayo coffee agroforestry system provides a substantial contribution to climate change mitigation through aboveground carbon storage. The study concludes that enhancing agroforestry-based coffee farming has ecological and economic benefits and strengthens opportunities for implementing low-carbon agricultural certification and social forestry programs. Future research may further explore belowground carbon and long-term carbon dynamics across different management intensities.

Abstract

In the surrounding areas of Gunung Merapi National Park, grass harvesting is an inseperable part of the daily life of buffer zone communities. Natural growing grasses in the Kemalang resort area have been traditionally used for livestock feed, particularly through a conservation partnership scheme facilitated by the national park authority. In the context, natural resource management must adopt a sustainable development approach to maintain the balance between ecological, economic and sociocultural aspect especially by ensuring that utilization doesn’t exceed the land’s productive capacity. This research was conducted from august 25 to november 30 2022, within the conservation partnership area of kemalang resort, under the management of Gunung Merapi National Park region II. The study aimed to determine the productivity value, utilization levels and their economic value of grass within the conservation partnership scheme. A descriptive quantitative was used, involving field observations through the establishment of 42, 1x1m2 grass sampling plots. Quantitative data were also collected through structured intreviews to 42 landowner respondens selected via purposive sampling with a sampling intensity of 10%. Direct economic valuation was applied using actual market prices. The results show that grass productivity in the area reached 3.782.790,53 kg/year with an economic value of IDR111.867.536 /year. Meanwhile, thecommunity’s utilization reached 9.483.533,42 kg/year, with an economic valued at IDR7.808.895.167 /year. This significant gap reflects pressure on the regenerative capacity of grass resources, potentially threatening the area’s ecological functions. Sustainable non-timber forest product management is therefore essential to maintain a balance between conservation and the community needs.
