Abstract

Light brick compressive strength produced by UD. XY has a very high variation because there is no standard composition of raw materials. This research is carried out to design an improvement or quality improvement for light brick products at UD. XY. Quality improvement is on increasing the compressive strength of light brick with optimal composition. Quality improvement is conducted using the experimental design of the Taguchi method to obtain an optimal composition combination. The orthogonal array notation used is L9(34) with material control factors in the form of water (A), cement (B), and sand (C). Data processing is done by calculating ANOVA on average values and SNR with larger better classification. The classification is chosen because of the greater the compressive strength of the light brick the higher the quality of the light brick. This ANOVA calculation is carried out to find out which factors significantly influence the light brick compressive strength. The test conducted to determine the quality of light brick is a concrete compressive strength test carried out using the Compression Machine. Based on the results of data processing, a comparison of the optimal composition of water: cement: sand is 1: 2.5: 4. The confirmation experiment proves that the compressive strength of the composition is robust.

Abstract

This research was conducted on one of the giant manufacturers of musical instrument equipment that is inseparable from problems related to the effectiveness of the machine/equipment caused by the six big losses. The improper handling and maintenance of the machine can result in losses called the six big losses. The first stage in the effort to increase production efficiency in this company is to measure the effectiveness of laminating machine I using the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) method which is then followed by measuring the OEE six big losses to find out the amount of efficiency lost in the six big losses. From these six factors, then what factors are found to give the greatest contribution that result in the large amount of efficiency lost in laminating machines I. The causal diagram can be analyzed the real problem which is the main cause of high losses resulting in low efficiency on laminating-machine I. Conclusions that can be taken on laminating machine I that the OEE value for the period April 2016 to March 2017 ranged from 61.08% to 83.91%. This condition indicates that the ability of laminating-machine I to achieve targets and achieve effectiveness has not reached the ideal condition (≥86%). As for those that affect the OEE value and become the top priority, the reduced speed factor is 78.79%.

Abstract

Samples of Cor-Ten steels have been subjected to surface treatment, by coating Al and followed by nitridation. High-temperature corrosion tests were carried out using a Thermo Gravimetry Analysis / Magnetic Suspension Balance (TGA/MSB). The Nitridation process was performed at 550°C for 3, 5, 4, 7 and 20 hours under flowing N2 and NH3 gases. Corrosion tests were performed for 50 hours at 650°C. After the oxidation, sample were characterized using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) to determine the crystal structure, and then using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to observe the microstructure and hardness of the alloys by aloowing Micro Hardness Tester. It can be concluded that sample nitridized for 5 hours showed the lowest corrosion rate or highest corrosion resistance, due to the corrosion barrier was Al2O3 protective layer. The hardness of Cor-Ten increased from 137 VHN to 340VHN (after nitridation), and to 744 VHN after Al deposition and nitridation for 5 hours. The increase of hardness might be associated with the formation of aluminum nitride. Keywords: Al Deposition, Corrosion Resistant, Cor-Ten, Nitridation, TGA/MSB, XRD, SEM

Abstract

Many developing countries have their significant income from agricultural or basic industries. Thereafter, many problems in ergonomics started to occur. Researches and activities about ergonomics have arisen since the early of 1960. At the beginning, environmental ergonomics and work physiology were the most selected topics. In India, ergonomics researches began with work physiology, workplace study, design equipment or product, and the manual material handling in agriculture. In China, ergonomics began with information display, signal form in control chamber, and display for instrument. Then, other developing countries have started to implement the ergonomics as a tool to increase and fix productivity and work safety, especially in agriculture and small-scale industries, which man and manual tools are the main actors. These countries are Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. This research found the benefits of implementing ergonomics principles to the design of manual agricultural equipment (the length of bar and the angle of head-rack). Using criteria: biomechanics analysis, psycho-physic analysis, productivity analysis, and energy consumption, the design was tested in the field, with several locally-made rack as comparison. Results found that using the ergonomics design, safety and productivity can be achieved in a significant way. Keywords: Ergonomics, Productivity, Safety
