Abstract

Background: One of the management of hypertension is with herbal medicine, such as cucumber juice, because cucumber contains a lot of potassium and water, a diuretic that can lower blood pressure. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of cucumber juice on blood pressure in patients with stage 1 hypertension. Method: The research design used was (a quasi-experimental design) with the design using the Non-Equivalent Control Group. A total of 28 people whose blood pressure was measured consisted of 14 people in the intervention group giving cucumber juice and 14 in the control group without giving cucumber juice. Results: The study’s mean systolic blood pressure in the control and intervention groups ranged above 130 mmHg and 80 mmHg for diastolic. After the intervention procedure, the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group decreased to 120.71 mmHg (systolic) and 76.43 mmHg (diastolic). In contrast, the control group’s systolic and diastolic blood pressure was relatively stable. The Independent t-test result showed a significant p-value (< 0.05). Meanwhile, in the control group, a p-value of (> 0.05) was obtained, meaning there was no change in blood pressure in the control group. Conclusion: This study showed that cucumber juice affects blood pressure. Based on the study’s result, nurses need to maximize hypertension control by giving education to constantly consume anti-hypertensive drugs along with herbal medicine such as cucumber juice.

Abstract

Aims : This study aimed to examine the relationship between nurse staffing factors, fatigue, and stress among emergency department (ED) nurses during pandemic. Design : Descriptive, correlation, and cross sectional approach. Methods : Using cross-sectional design, a total of 113 ED nurses in Indonesia selected by convenience sampling completed the survey on the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS). Data analysis included descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis. Results : Nurse staffing factors were not significantly associated with stress (r = -0.07-0.16, p > 0.05). Fatigue correlated with the domain of death and dying (r = 0.19, p < 0.05), problems relating to supervisors (r = 0.19, p < 0.05), workload (r = 0.26, p < 0.01) and patients/families (r = 0.25, p < 0.01), and overall stress (r = 0.21, p < 0.05). Conclusions : The more severe fatigue the emergency nurses suffered, the worse stress they experienced. The workload and rotation of nurses during pandemic should be readjusted in accordance with current hospital situation. Identification of basic needs during the pandemic such as ensuring the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) may help to reduce stress and to maintain the service quality in ED. Organizing counseling programs and support group through online meetings can help nurses to share their difficulties and experiences and to prevent them from feeling isolated.

Students that focus on caring as their pedagogical foundation will be more equipped to provide nursing intervention in clinical situations. Objective: This research aimed to examine nursing students' caring behaviors as they relate to their readiness for clinical practice. Methods: A total of 122 nursing students from nursing schools in Bandung participated in this descriptive and cross-sectional study, with a response rate of 81.3%. Students' caring behavior and clinical readiness are assessed using the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey and the CBI-24 (Caring Behavior Instrument short form). Pearson correlation and linear regression tests in SPSS 26 were used to establish associations between the variables. Results: Findings demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between students' caring conduct and clinical preparation (sig 0.000; p0.05). The correlation between the two variables was 23.8% strong, which  was statistically significant. Student readiness for clinical practice was only strongly related to the connection factor. Nursing students' caring attitudes and clinical readiness were not significantly influenced by students' age, gender, or work situation. Conclusions: The level of empathy and social connection among nursing students influenced how well they were prepared for clinical practice. The development of students' caring behaviors, including self-assurance, competency, and respect, should be a primary goal of nursing education.

Abstract

Aim: In Indonesia, anaemia is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. Inadequate iron (Fe) supplementation is one of the causes of anaemia in pregnant women. Researchers have found that what pregnant women know affects how they act when they take Fe tablets. Still, the most recent research shows that good knowledge is not always linked to taking Fe tablets in a good way. This study aims to determine the relationship between iron tablet compliance and the knowledge of pregnant women. Method: This study was a correlational study with a cross-sectional design in 2019. The sample in this study was 53 pregnant women obtained using the stratified proportional random sampling technique in Bandung. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the data. Result: The correlation test showed a significance level of 0.627 (value > 0.05), which means there is no correlation between pregnant women's knowledge about Fe tablets and compliance. Conclusion: A good understanding of pregnant women does not always correspond with women's observation of Fe tablet consumption. Other factors must be examined more closely. Pregnant women must be motivated and have good family support during their pregnancy.
