Abstract

Aims: In nasopharyngeal cancer, radiotherapy is known as the treatment of choice by utilizing ionized radiation to eradicate all cancer cells in the nasopharynx and their metastases in the lymph nodes. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge and attitude on oral hygiene management behavior among nasopharyngeal cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy in Jakarta. Methods: A descriptive correlative with a cross-sectional. Using total sampling on 45 respondents at Radiotherapy Installation at Dharmais Cancer Hospital. The measurement using questionnaire to determine the correlation between knowledge and attitudes to oral hygiene management behavior on nasopharyngeal cancer patients. Fisher Exact Test was used for univariate and bivariate analysis.  Results: Up to 68.9% respondents had a good level of knowledge, while 77.8% respondents had a positive attitude and also had good behavior on oral hygiene management. Fisher Exact Test showed a correlation between knowledge on oral hygiene management behavior n nasopharyngeal cancer patients with radiation with a p–value = 0.002. The results also show a significant correlation between attitudes on oral hygiene management behavior in nasopharyngeal cancer patients with radiation with a p–value = 0.000. Conclusion: Patients with good knowledge and positive attitudes have good oral hygiene behavior, whereas patients with poor knowledge and negative attitudes will behave with poor oral hygiene management. Increase the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of oral hygiene management of NPC patients who will undergo radiation through the provision of continuing education from the beginning to the end of radiation. Provide educational media so that patients achieve a better understanding.

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between the radiation fractionation number and the major nursing problems in cervical cancer patients with external radiation. Method: This research design was quantitative descriptive using the cross-sectional approach. Consecutive sampling was applied to collect data from 45 cervical cancer patients who were undergoing external radiation at Radiotherapy Department of Dharmais Cancer Hospital, taken from January to April 2019. The inclusive respondents fulfilled the instruments including questionnaire to determine the number of radiation fractionation and the problems that the patients were experiencing. Univariate data analysis used frequency distribution technique and bivariate used Spearman’s rank correlation. Result: The study results indicate that the majority of irradiated cervical cancer patients were aged 41-60 years, in advanced stage of III B, and they did not receive surgery therapy before radiotherapy. There is a correlation between the radiation fractionation number and the major nursing problems in irradiated cervical cancer patients where the P value is 0.000 (r=0.713). They experienced major nursing problems of distress/coping in the 5th fractionation, nutrition alteration in the 10th fractionation, impaired skin integrity and nutrition alteration in the 15th fractionation, while in the 20th and 25th fractionations, the major problem was impaired skin integrity. Conclusion: The study depicted a significant and strong positive correlation between the radiation fractionation number and the major nursing problems in irradiated cervical cancer patients, the higher radiation fractionation level, the higher (severe) the nursing problem.  The study suggests nurses to conduct further study on the side effects of radiation to improve nursing care for irradiated cancer patients.

Abstract

Aims: WHO reported 36.5% pregnant women in the world experienced anaemia, which 75.0% of them lived in developing countries. It included 63.5% of them who lived in Indonesia. The highest prevalence of anemic pregnancy in Jakarta province was located in North Jakarta, that related to iron deficiency and nutritional status. Boosting knowledge and educating women about pregnancy had to be done effectively in order to get optimal output. Choosing the right educational media was an essential part of the movement. Audio Visual Education (AVE) was commonly use to educate people, instead of limited resources. It stimulated two human sense, sight and hearing, which estimated could increase learning process. Method: We held a quasi-experimental study by gathering 30 pregnant women to watch AVE about anemia in pregnancy who were willing to participate and havent received any education about anemia via educational video. Exclusion criteria were being uncooperative, such as not watching the video completely and didn’t fill in pre- and posttest completely. We used purposive sampling to gather participants. There were pre and post-test ten minutes before and after intervention. We performed Wilcoxon Test to analyze the effectivity of AVE in order to increase knowledge about anemia (p<0.05). Results: We found AVE could boost knowledge score in the third pregnant women statistically significant. Before intervention, average knowledge score was 56,7% which increased to 91,7% after AVE (p value=0.0001).   Conclusion: This study implied AVE was an effective media to increase participant’s knowledge about anemic pregnancy in pregnant women. Strengthening health literacy through planned educational programs would improve health behavior of individual and community.
